Fear Allaah and Do Not Depend Upon Intercession! – Shaykh Rabee’
Fear Allaah and Do Not Depend Upon Intercession! – Shaykh Rabee’
Translated by Abu Yusuf Khaleefah
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
The Allaamah Shaykh Rabee’ ibn Haadi (may Allaah preserve him) stated:
“There has come narrations concerning the matter of intercession like the the narration of Abu Sa’eed, the narration of Anas and the narration of Abu Hurayrah. Within these narrations (we find) that Allaah brings out of the hell-fire the one who has in his the least amount of faith from those who said “Laa Ilaaha Illallaah”. We benefit from the narration that whoever meets Allaah bearing witness that none has the right to be worshiped except for Allaah sincerely, Allaah will remove him from the hell-fire, even if he has the least amount of faith. That’s because faith increases and decreases. It increases with obedience to Allaah and decreases with the acts of disobedience. It continues to decrease and decrease until the point nothing remains from it except the least amount/an atoms weight. As a result of that, Allaah removes a people from the hell-fire. However with that being said, it is not befitting for the Muslim to depend intercession and embark upon acts of disobedience. Indeed that is a tremendous danger (for a number of reasons):
1. It’s possible that the Muslim can apostate. That’s because the acts of disobedience leads to disbelief. It’s possible that the person’s acts of disobedience can drag him into disbelief and leaving from the fold of Islaam. That’s by the faith decreasing and decreasing until the point it ceases to be by the committing of that which causes the person to be a disbeliever. As a result of that Allaah will not forgive him and he will not allow anyone to intercede on his behalf. Rather his destination will be eternal (punishment) in the hell-fire.
2. Even if his sins and acts of disobedience doesn’t reach the point of disbelief. Rather he is from those who meet Allaah with something of faith along with tawheed and truthfulness in that faith, even if it is the least amount, he will come out of the hell-fire by way of intercession. Therefore whoever meets Allaah not associating with Him anything, his faith is sincerely for Allaah, he says “Laa Ilaaha Illallaah Muhammad Rasoolullaah” and he is sincere in that. If he was to meet Allaah with sins that are similar to the mountains, if Allaah wills, He will pardon him as has come in the narration of the Bitaaqah (the card). If He wills, He will punish him according to his sins. Then after that He will remove him due to his faith, his Tawheed and sincerity (from the hell-fire). However who from amongst is ready to remain in the hell-fire for fifty thousand years?!!
This (punishment is for) the one who didn’t pay the Zakaah. He will remain for fifty thousand years in the punishment (of the hell-fire). How much more so for the one who keeps away from the Salaah?
Therefore the person should not take this matter lightly and depend upon the narrations of intercession and say: The prophets and the righteous will intercede for the people of the hell-fire!!
Indeed it is obligatory that you fear Allaah (with knowledge) and fear Him (due to Him being able to punish you). You have to strive in the performance of the righteous actions and don’t procrastinate in the committing of sins. rather hasten to repentance.
If you fall into a sin, repent to Allaah azza wa jall. Allaah azza wa jall has praised those who don’t remain consistent upon the committing of sins. Allaah azza wa jall has stated:
“And those who when they commit indecency or wrong themselves, they remember Allaah and as a result of that they seek forgiveness for their sins. Who is the one forgives except for Allaah. And they don’t remain consistent upon that which they did while they know better.” (Aali ‘Imraan: 135)
In an authentic narration (the Prophet said):
“Be aware of (that which is considered) the insignificant sins. For indeed they gather up upon the person until they destroy him.” (Musnad of Ahmad 1/402)
Allaah’s refuge is sought from that. The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:
“Protect yourself from the fire even if it is with half of a date.” (Bukhaari and Muslim)
Allaah has stated:
“Fear the fire whose fuel is man and stones prepared for the disbelievers.” (Al-Baqarah: 24)
Many from the people of disobedience will accompany the disbelievers in this hell-fire even if they come out of it due to intercession. However who from amongst us is prepared to remain in the hell-fire for a period of time, and the refuge is sought with Allaah?!”

What are the types of Murji’ah? – Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan
What are the types of Murji’ah?
Question:
What are the types of the Murji’ah? Please also mention their statements with regards to the issues of eemaan.
Answer:
The Murji’ah are of four types:
ONE: Those who say that eemaan is merely knowledge (ma’rifah), even if this is not accompanied by testification (tasdeeq).
This is the statement of the Jahmiyyah.
This is the most evil and the ugliest of statements. It is in fact disbelief (kufr) in Allah Azza wa Jall, because the mushrikoon from the early times, and Pharaoh (Firawn), and Haamaan and Qaaroon and (even) Iblees all acknowledged (the existence) of Allaah, Azza wa Jall, in their hearts. However because they did not state this on their tongues, nor testify to this in their hearts, nor act upon it with their limbs, then this knowledge did not benefit them.
TWO: Those who say that eemaan is testification in the heart only.
This is the statement of the Ashaa’irah (the Ash’arees).
This is also a false statement since the disbelievers (kuffaar) testify in their hearts, they know that the Quraan is True and that the Messenger (sal Allaahu alaiyhi wa sallam) is True, and the Jews and Christians know that.
Those to whom We gave the Scripture (Jews and Christians) recognise him (Muhammad sal Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) as they recognise their sons; but verily, a party of them conceal the truth while they know it – [i.e. the qualities of Muhammad sal Allaahu alaihi wa sallam which are written in the Tawraat and the Injeel]. (Surah Al Baqarah: 146)
And they testify to it in their hearts.
Allaah Ta’aala says regarding the Mushrikoon: We know indeed the grief which their words cause you (O Muhammad sal Allaahu alaihi wa sallam); it is not you that they deny but it is the Ayaat of Allaah that the Dhaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers) deny. (Surah Al An’aam: 33)
So these people did not state upon their tongues nor did they act with their limbs, yet they did testify in their hearts – so they did not become people of eemaan (mu’minoon).
THREE: The statement of those who are the direct opposite of the Ashaa’irah – and they are the Karaamiyah. Those who say that eemaan is statement on the tongue even if the person does not truly believe in his heart.
Without doubt, this is a false statement since the hypocrites (munaafiqoon) – those who are in the lowest depths of the Fire – say “We bear witness that laa ilaaha ill Allaah and that Muhammad rasool ullaah’ with their tongues and they act (accordingly) with their limbs, but they do not truly believe in that nor do they testify to it in their hearts.
This is just as Allaah Ta’aala says: When the hypocrites come to you (O Muhammad sal Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) they say: ‘We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allaah’. And Allaah knows that you are indeed His Messenger and Allaah bears witness that the hypocrites are liars indeed. They have made their oaths a screen (for their hypocrisy). In this way they hinder (men) from the Path of Allaah. Verily, evil is what they used to do. (Surah Al Munaafiqoon: 1-2)
And He says, Subhaanahu wa ta’aala: They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. (Surah Al Fath: 11)
FOUR: The statement of the murji’ah al fuqahaa, and they are the lightest of the groups in terms of irjaa’ – those who say that eemaan is belief (i’tiqaad) in the heart and statement upon the tongue, but action does not enter into it.
This is the statement of the Murji’ah al-Fuqahaa and this is a statement which is also incorrect since there is no eemaan without action.

Ibn al-Qayyim on Futile, Rejected Actions, Stormy Wind and Ashes and the Fuel of the Hellfire
The parable of those who disbelieve in their Lord is that their works are as ashes, on which the wind blows furiously on a stormy day, they shall not be able to get aught of what they have earned. That is the straying, far away (from the Right Path). (Ibrahim 14:18)
Allaah the Exalted has made resemblance between the actions of the Kuffar, concerning their futility, and lack of any benefit from them, and between ashes on which a severe wind blows on a stormy day.
So He, the Sublime, made resemblance between their nullified actions that go away in falsehood just like the scattered dust, due to their not being (based) upon a foundation of Imaan and Ihsaan, and due to their being for other than [the sake] of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, and upon other than His command (i.e. upon other than the Sunnah) – and between the ashes which the strong wind blows into the sky. So a person is not able to do anything with it during the time in which he is need of it (i.e. his actions on the Day of Judgement). And for this reason He said, “they shall not be able to get aught of what they have earned”, they are not able (to attain anything) on the Day of Judgement from whatever they have earned of their actions. Hence, they do not see it having any effect in reward, and nor any benefit from it. For Allaah does not accept anything of action unless what is sincerely for His Face, and in agreement with His legislation.
And actions are of four types: One which is accepted and three that are rejected.
The accepted [action] is “al-khaalis as-sawaab” (pure and correct). Al-khaalis, is that it is for the sake of Allaah (alone) and not other than Him. And as-sawaab is that it is from that which Allaah has legislated upon the tongue of His Messenger.
And the three rejection [types of action] are whatever oppose this.
And in resembling these [rejected types of action] with ashes, there is a great profound secret. And this is due to the resemblance between their actions and between ashes in fuelling, igniting the fire (i.e. making it scorch). Hence, the actions which are [done] for other than Allaah, and are done upon other than His intent (i.e. the way they have been requested, upon His legislation), then they are the food of the Fire (to be destroyed by it), and it is by way of them that the Fire will roast its inhabitants. And Allaah, the Sublime will bring about (more) fire and punishment from their false actions (within the Fire), just as He brings about bliss and pleasure for the people of actions that agree with His command and prohibition and which are purely for His sake alone. Hence, the Fire will effect their actions until it turns them to ashes. Hence, they, and their actions, and what they worship besides Allaah, are the fuel of the Fire.
