Shaykh Salih as-Suhaymee on the Impermissibility of Muslims Celebrating Valentine’s Day
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Suḥaymī on the Impermissibility of Muslims Celebrating Valentine’s Day
Translated by Abū al-Ḥasan Mālik Ādam al-Akhḍar
Questioner:
“Indeed tomorrow corresponds with the fourteenth of February which is recognized as Valentine’s Day in the West, and some of our young men and women have been tempted by this holiday. So do you have a word of advice concerning this?”
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Suḥaymī (hafidhahullaah):
“This was the topic of last Friday’s khutbah (sermon), and perhaps someone from the students of knowledge recorded it, and I do believe that it was recorded in Masjid Amīr Ṣultān. I elaborated on this in detail. In brief, I mentioned that this Valentine’s Day contains seven objects of caution.
First: Its origin goes back to the Romans; it was originally called Cupid’s (Roman god of love) Day; so recognizing it is recognition of idolatry because it is imitation of the idolaters.
Second: It is blind following of the Jews and Christians, and the Messenger of Allāh (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) informed us of this, ‘You will follow the ways of those who came before you…’ it was said, ‘The Jews and Christians?’ He said, ‘And what other nation [could I mean] besides those?’[2] and in another wording, ‘The Persians and the Romans.’[3]
Third: It is imitation of the disbelievers in general. The Messenger of Allāh (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) stated, ‘Whoever imitates a people, he is from them.’[4]
Fourth: It is an innovation that has been newly introduced by the people, and whoever innovates in this affair of ours that which is not from it, it is rejected.[5]
Fifth: It is an abomination, and everything that takes place in its observance is an abomination from the meeting up of young men and women, the correspondence that takes place between them, the sending of heart-shaped Valentine’s and what is similar to this of nonsense. All of this is imitation of the West, and we have been prohibited from imitating [the disbelieving people].
Sixth: Even those who are sensible among them (i.e. the disbelievers) have prohibited celebrating this holiday, until—I believe I heard that the Vatican, the distorted Christian Church, is stern in their prohibition of this matter.
Last: It is based upon a great myth—concerning what is called love and what it leads to from corruption. So love, in their view, is merely fornication and what leads to it. Thus, it is upon us to be wary of imitating these disbelieving people. I believe this answer is adequate, and as I have previously mentioned, I have elaborated on this in the khutbah (Friday sermon). So we will suffice with this, and I commend you [to Allah’s protection] until tomorrow’s lesson. May the prayers and peace be upon the our Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam), his family and companions.”

“Should we be scared while the Qur`an and Sunnah are with us? Shame on us!? We are Salafees! And we are scared to defend the truth while the people of falsehood encourage themselves in their defense of falsehood? There is no blessing from Allaah in this life for a fearful and chicken-hearted person – no blessing in this life!
This life isn’t just about a desire for drink and food! By the Lord of the Ka’bah!
Either I live as a Salafee with my head held high, defending the da’wah of Prophet Muhammad, salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, defending the narrations of the Salaf and defending the scholars of our time, the scholars of the Sunnah such as Al-Albaanee, Ibn Baaz, Ibnul-’Uthaimeen, Shaikh Al-Fawzaan, Shaikh al-Ghudayaan, Shaikh al-Luhaydaan, Shaikh Rabee’ and others amongst the scholars of Salafiyyah who have propogated this Da’wah, otherwise, no! There is no good in us!
There is no good in us! By the Lord of the Ka’bah!
I am amazed!
Why such relentlessness against the Da’wah Salafiyyah?!
Why such relentlessness against the Salafees?!
Why so much praise for the people of bid’ah?!
Why is all this happening?!
Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh you who affirm that Allaah is above His Throne?!
Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh you who affirm that Allaah is above?!
Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh you who affirm that there is neither benefit nor harm except from Allaah?!
Oh you who do not invoke for aid nor in distress except Allaah (alone)!
(Oh you) who considers the prohibition of amulets and that we must swear by Allaah alone, where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy)?!
When you are seeing your Imams – those who call to the same Da’wah as yours – being blamed and criticized, while those who praise the deniers of the Istiwaa` – and claim that Allaah is ‘everywhere’ - have become Imams?
Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh my brother?!
Is that where we are?! Have we dropped to this point?!
The one who clings to this Religion becomes stronger, while the one who abandons it (becomes) weak! This Religion is a Paradise; the one who follows its path will succeed, but the one who abandons it will be lost.
He is The Lord, The Noble, free from any imperfection and Exalted is He! The one who sticks to His commands, his strength will be tenfold and he will become powerful by the power of Allaah and His favour.
Otherwise, he has no good in this life.
Nowadays, our scholars get accused of many things, our mashayikh get accused of many crimes, and it is the modern-day Khawaarij, the modern-day Mu’tazila, and the modern-day Ash’aria who have become the Imams?!
Have they become heroic combatants and brave men?! [No!]
But they just want to kill you, oh Salafiyyoon. They want you to quit your Salafiyyah!
But remain steadfast upon it! You have the Adila (proofs) with you; don’t be deceived by their words!
Imam al-Awaza’ee said:
‘Adhere to the narrations (aathar) of the Salaf (the Prophet and Sahaaba), even if the people were to abandon you. And beware of the opinions of people, no matter how much they beautify it with speech.’”

Al-Fawzān: If you know and are sure about the deviation of a group and are able to, you must warn…
The following question was posed to Shaykh Sālih b. Fawzān Al-Fawzān – may Allāh preserve and protect him (“Sahab Salafi Network” 2012):
I intend to write about some deviated groups and warn against them. However, these groups have not left the fold of Islām, and some scholars have praised them, and I fear that [such scholars] might call against me. What is your advice and guidance for me, knowing that this group is deviated?
The Shaykh replied:
Your duty (wājib) is to clarify the truth; your duty is to clarify the truth. If you are sure about their errors and their deviation, you are one hundred percent sure, and you have the ability and the knowledge to explain, then it is a duty upon you to do this.
And when Allāh took the covenant from those who were given the scripture that you must explain it to people and not hide it… (Translation of the meaning of Āl-‘Imrān: 187)
Verily those who hide the clear guidance that We have revealed…
(Translation of the meaning of Al-Baqarah: 159, 174)It is not allowed to hide knowledge. If you know and are sure about the deviation of some groups or sects, then clarify them and explain them for the people, so that they may be on guard against them. This is part of nasīhah (sincere concern for others; advice). The Messenger – Allāh’s praise and peace be upon him – said:
The religion is nasīhah (sincerity). We asked: “to whom?” He replied, “to Allāh, and to His Book, and to His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their masses. (Sahīh Muslim, hadīth #55)
[In doing so,] do not fear the people. You must fear Allāh – the exalted and perfect – and explain the truth and refute falsehood, and not fear people, yes.

Explanation of Allaah’s Statement: And they will never cease to differ except upon whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy
Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu ‘ala rasulullaah
Amma-ba’d
The following is a highly beneficial excerpt from a lesson that student Abu Khadeejah ‘Abdul-Waahid (hafidhahullaah Ta’aala) gave during his recent trip to America:
[Listen to mp3 lecture @ AbuKhadeejah – Final Night : Mercy Upon The Salafis and Love between them]
…So Ahlus-Sunnah’s Qawaa`id (principles) and Usool (fundamentals) follow on from the Kitab (Qur`an) and the Sunnah. Ahlul-Bid’ah – the reverse.[1] They invent and then they try to establish proofs from the Kitab and the Sunnah.[2] And this is where (and how) splitting and differing occurs. Of course, it’s going to lead to it, because everyone starts doing that. Then everyone will come with their own religion. And the Deen of Allaah, Subhanahu wa Ta’aala, is one.
So this is what we are upon. So if one returns back to the Kitab and the Sunnah, and the sayings of the Sahaaba (radiallaahu ‘anhum), then you will find that Allaah and His Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) forbade splitting.
Allaah, Subhanahu wa Ta’aala, stated:
وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ إِلاَّ مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ
…But they will not cease to differ (disagree) – Except him on whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy…
(Hud, ayat 118 and 119)
So Allaah mentions in this ayah two groups of people: (a) those who differ; and (b) those who are free from differing. Because Allaah said:
وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ
But they will not cease to differ (disagree) : So there are the Mukhtalifeen, who will never cease to differ, those people who fall into this Ikhtilaaf, those who will never cease to differ.
إِلاَّ مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ
Except him on whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy : So this is the other group.
The great scholar ‘Umar Ibn ‘Abdil-’Azeez (d. 102 H, rahimahullaah Ta’aala), the Mujjadid (The Reviver) and King[3], said:
“Allaah created the people of His mercy in order that they do not differ.”
And Abu Muhammad Ibn Hazm Al-Anduloosi (rahimahullaah Ta’aala), from the great Imams of Spain, said:
“So Allaah, Subhanahu wa Ta’aala, excluded those upon whom He bestowed His mercy from being those who differ. And He has (protected) those under His mercy from being those who differ.”
So those who are deserving of the mercy of Allaah, do they differ? [No,] they don’t differ.
Likewise, Imam Ash-Shatibee (rahimahullaah Ta’aala) mentioned in his book Al-I’tisaam:
“This ayah necessitates that the people of ikhtilaff mentioned are distinct from those whom Allaah has bestowed His mercy, due to the statement of Allaah:
وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ إِلاَّ مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ
…But they will not cease to differ (disagree) – Except him on whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy… (Hud, ayat 118 and 119)
This ayah shows that the people are of two types:
(a) Ahlul-Ikhtilaf (the people of differing); and
(b) those whom have been bestowed by Allaah’s mercy.
And what is apparent from this categorization is that the people of mercy are not from the people of differing.”
So the Ummah is of two types: (a) Ahlul-Ikhtilaaf (those who differ), and therefore they are devoid of Allaah’s mercy; and (b) Ahlur-Rahma (the people of the mercy of Allaah), those who do not differ.
Ibnu Wahhab (rahimahullah Ta’aala) said: “I heard (Imam) Malik saying:
‘Those whom Allaah shows His mercy to, they do not differ.’”
They do not differ. This is why Ahlus-Sunnati wal-Jama’ah put so much emphasis upon the fact that we do not differ – we are united. Our ‘aqeedah is one, our Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is one, the Sunnah is one. The Manhaj is one. The way of the sahaaba is one. Do we not keep re-iterating this?
Why? Because we want the people to know: Ahlus-Sunnah are united, Ahlus-Sunnah are Ahlur-Rahma, and we are not from those who are Mukhtalifeen (those who differ). We do not like to be from those who differ.
Shaikh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah Ta’aala) said: “Allaah said:
وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ إِلاَّ مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ وَلِذَلِكَ خَلَقَهُمْ
…But they will not cease to differ (disagree) – Except him on whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy. And for that did He create them… (Hud, ayat 118 and 119)
So Allaah has informed us that the people of mercy do not differ. And the people of mercy follow the followers of the Prophets in their speech and action, and they are the people of the Qur`an and Hadeeth from this Ummah. And whoever differs from them in anything, then he distances himself, and he leaves the mercy of Allaah to the extent that he differs from them.”
So after mentioning that Allaah has divided the people into two types: (a) the people who differ; and (b) the people of mercy (Ahlus-Sunnah, Ahlul-Hadeeth, Ahlul Qur`an wal-Hadeeth), then Ibn Taymiyyah said: whomsoever differs with them. He didn’t say, ‘whomsoever differs with it.’ Ibnu Taymeeyah didn’t say that. He said: whoever differs with them. With who? With them. With Ahlul-Hadeeth, Ahlul Qur`an wal-Hadeeth, Ahlus-Sunnati wal-Jama’ah.
Whoever differs with them – in anything – he leaves the mercy of Allaah to the extent that he differs with them. So the more you differ with Ahlus-Sunnah, Ahlul-Hadeeth, the Salafiyeen, the more you leave the mercy of Allaah.
That’s an amazing Fahm (understanding) of Shaikh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah.
And whoever opposes (Ahlus-Sunnah, the Salafees) in the affair of ‘Aqeedah, if they oppose them in the affair of Manhaj, if they oppose them in their following of the Sahaaba, the more they oppose them, the more (they are distanced) Read more…

From the Deviations of the Raafidah in Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah – Shaykh Alee ibn Yahyaa al-Haddaadee
From the Deviations of the Raafidah in Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah
By : Shaykh Alee ibn Yahyaa al-Haddaadee
Translated By: Raha Azeezuddeen Batts
http://mtws.posterous.com/
The Raafidah deviated far astray in the sphere of Tawheed ar-Rubuubiyyah (Oneness of Allah’s Lordship) even though it is the Tawheed which all of the previous nations confirmed. What clarifies that is that we, Ahlus-Sunnah, believe that Allah the Exalted Alone is the Creator and that He Alone is the Controller of the Affairs of the whole universe; as Allah the Exalted said:
{All the Praise is for Allah, Lord of the Aalameen(everything that exists} (al-Faathihah 1:2)
And as He, the Exalted, has said: {He manages and regulates every affair) (as-Sajdah 32:5)
And He, the Exalted has said:
{Say: O Allah, Owner of the Dominion, You give the dominion to whom You wish and you take the dominion from whom you wish; You give honor to whom You wish and you disgrace whom you wish. In Your Hand is the good. Verily You are Able to do all things. You make the night to enter into the day and you make the day to enter into the night; You bring the living out of the dead and You bring to dead out of the living, and You provide for whom you wish without any reckoning.}
And Allah said concerning the polytheists of old:
Say: Whose is the earth and whosoever is therein, if you know? They will say: “It is Allahýs.” Say: Will you not then remember? Say: Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne? They will say: “Allah.” Say: Will you not then fear Allah? Say: In Whose Hand is the sovereignty of everything; He protects while against Him there is no protector, if you know? They will say: “(All that belongs)to Allah.” Say: How then are you deluded away from the truth?”(al-Mu-minoon 23: 84-89)
In spite of this, we find within the beliefs of the Raafidah, ascription of the dominion and regulation of affairs to some of the creation, such as Alee ibn Abe Taalib, may Allah be pleased with him.
Al-Kulaynee narrated under the Chapter: The Entire Earth Belongs to the Imaam; on the authority of Aboo Abdillah, that he said: “Do you not know that this Dunyaa and the next life (both ) belong to the Imaam. He distributes it wherever he wills and he gives it to whom he wills.” [al-Kaafee 1/409]
And from that which emphasizes their equating of their Imaams with Allah the Exalted and deifying them, is that which they have concocted within their books and attributed to their Imaams, from giving life to the dead. Al-Majlisee narrated in al-Bahaar on the authority of Saýd al- Qumee that: Abool-Fadl Dukkayn said: Muhammad ibn Raashid informed me on the authority of his grandfather who said: “I questioned Jafar ibn Muhammad (Upon them both be peace) the Allaamah. He said: “Ask me what you wish and I shall inform you if Allah wills.” So I said: A brother has departed. Meaning he is dead in this grave. So he commanded him to come back to life and said: “What is his name?” I said: Ahmad. He said: “O Ahmad, stand by the permission of Allah and by the permission of Jafar ibn Muhammad.” So he stood up and came to him.[Bahaar al-Anwaar 47/137]
Take note of his statement in the narration: “Stand by the permission of Allah and the permission of Jaýfar ibn Muhammad.”
So they make Jafar to be a rival with Allah the Exalted, who brings the dead to life by his own permission just as Allah brings the dead to life by His Permission. They have other narrations concerning their Imaams bringing the dead to life wherein there is no mention of Allah at all. I have declined to mention them so as to keep the discussion short. (See: Alaa Sabeelil-Mithaal Basaair ad-Darajaat pg. 293, Bahaar al-Anwaar 47/111)
This aqeedah continues to exist amongst them to this day of ours. For al-Khomeni said: “Verily the Imaam has a praiseworthy station (Maqaaman Mahmoodan), a special rank and universal khilaafah given due to its wilaayah and rule over all the molecules in the universe.”
[al-Hukoomah al-Islaamiyyah by: al-Khomeni pg. 52]
–
It is correct that we should ask the Raafidah: If the Imaams are as you claim, that they have free disposal in the matter of the creation to the point that the molecules are under their will and subjected to their command, then why do they fear death; and why do they hide from their enemies; and why do their enemies rule over them oppressively; why then are they imprisoned and killed!!?? Alee, may Allah be pleased with him, died as a result of murder. The hidden Imaam whom they await, nothing prevents him from coming out, according to their suppositions, except fear of being killed. So what about this contradiction which it is not possible for the intelligent person to believe!!?? And it is not possible, from another perspective, for the Raafidah to respond to it except by retracting from this lie and repenting to Allah from it and from the likes of these falsehoods.

Ahlul-Bid’ah’s attack on Ahlus-Sunnah (the Salafees) for implementing the Sharee’ah is in reality an attack on the Sharee’ah itself
Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu ‘ala rasulullaah
Amma-ba’d
Undoubtedly, accusing Allaah and His Messenger – directly or indirectly – is a characteristic of the disbelievers and hypocrites.
As such, this kind of deception and indirect accusation of Allaah is exposed and warned against in the Qur`an and the Sunnah.
In the Qur`an, you will find that Allaah, Ta’aala, said:
قَدْ نَعْلَمُ إِنَّه ُُ لَيَحْزُنُكَ الَّذِي يَقُولُونَ فَإِنَّهُمْ لاَ يُكَذِّبُونَكَ وَلَكِنَّ الظَّالِمِينَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ
We know indeed the grief which their words cause you (O Muhammad): it is not you that they deny, but it is the Verses (the Qur`an) of Allaah that the Dhaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers) deny. (Al-An’aam, ayah 33)
And from the Sunnah, you will find in an authentic hadeeth narrated by Ubay Ibn Ka’b (radiallaahu Ta’aala ‘anhu) that the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: Do not curse the wind, but when you see that which you dislike, say, ‘Oh Allaah: we ask You for what is good in this wind, what is good in what it bears, and what is good in what it has been commanded to do. We seek refuge with You from what is evil in this wind, in what it contains, and in what it has been commanded to do.’ (At-Tirmidhee)
In his Concise Commentary on Kitab at-Tawheed, Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah Ta’aala) explained that the wind is a compliant creation of Allaah; the wind does what Allaah commands it. Shaikh Fawzaan said: “Thus whoever curses wind is regarded to have cursed Allaah, and this indicates one’s dissatisfaction with His Decree.” And Shaikh Fawzaan explained in the previous chapter: “Dissatisfaction (with the Qadr) is a typical characteristic of the hypocrites.”
Ahlul-Bid’ah – due to the malice and disease in their hearts – have many deceptions, tricks, lies and false claims by which they seek to deceive the Muslims, desiring to lure them away from The Straight Path, The Saved Sect.
Among these despicable tricks is attacking and slandering the people of truth for implementing the Sharee’ah, with the intent to accuse the sharee’ah itself and replace it or parts of it, desiring to lure whom they are able to lure to join their invented methodology – in clear opposition to the legislated methodology that Allaah revealed to His Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and commanded all of mankind and jinn to follow!
This is an old trick that disbelievers and hypocrites have been committing since the time of Nooh (‘alayhi salaam), and Ahlul-Bid’ah of this Ummah have been engaging in such deception since after the death of the Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).
As student Abu Dihyah Dawood Adeeb (hafidhahullaah Ta’aala) relayed: “Nooh’s wife calling Nooh (‘alayhi salaam) ‘crazy’ is a direct criticism of Nooh (‘alayhi salaam) and an indirect criticism of Allaah and an indirect criticism of the message of Nooh.”
When asked why the Raafidah – who emerged during the caliphate of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (radiallaahu ‘anhu) – attack the companions of Allaah’s Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), shaikhul-Islaam Ibnu Taymeeyah (rahimahullaah Ta’aala) said: “The Rafidah revile the companions and their narrations, but the inner reality of the matter is that they desire revilement of the Messengership (itself).”
Likewise, the Jews and Christians do this and the Soofi, Deobandi, Barelwi, and Raafidi grave-worshippers likewise in their attack of Imam Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhab (rahimahullaah Ta’aala) who didn’t come with anything new but rather relayed what was in the Qur`an and Sunnah. Rather than directly attack the Qur`an and Sunnah and expose themselves as opposers of revelation, the grave-worshippers deceptionally attack(ed) those who relay(ed) the message. As for the Jews and Christians and other disbelievers and polytheists, then they desire that the Muslims relinquish this tremendous matter of singling out Allaah with all acts of worship, in addition to their desire that the Muslims compromise with them. 10 Quick Responses to 10 Recent Claims – Moosaa Richardson
In the perfect Name of Allaah…
Please forward this and post these important words to your mailing lists, as some speakers at Green Lane masjid have involved themselves in the scandalous cover up of the mistakes of Yusuf Estes.
Some of our honest and unsuspecting brothers and sisters in Islam who have been affected or even outright victimized by the deviance of Yusuf Estes and his acrobatic co-stars at Huda TV may have a number of concerns regarding Yusuf Estes himself, his errors, the information in this article, or its author.
1. Too harsh, not done with wisdom.
What is strange is that the claim is coming from one of Yusuf’s Huda TV co-stars, Abu Usamah ath-Thahabi, someone known for exaggerations and sensationalism in his speech, with an unhidden (almost) 20 year record of imbalanced flip-flopping and disgraceful behavior in communities in the West.
This is a man who I used to respect and look up to in my early years of study. About 10 years ago, he came to Makkah to translate for an umrah group, and we worked together to translate. I had just finished the first year of my BA studies at Umm al-Qura. Despite all the warnings coming out against Abu Usamah at that time, I still respected him and considered him oppressed. I honestly thought there was a group of “super Salafees” trying to take him out, and that he was a senior student and daa’ee who I should seek advice from.
During that two week period of lectures we translated together, he guided me to a book and placed it in my hands, a book about abandoned Sunnahs by “Mahmood al-Haddaad”. Yes, THE HADDAAD to whom the sect is ascribed, the haddaadees, for their excessive attacks of the scholars, making tabdee’ on them, etc.
And wal-hamdulillaah, in 15 years of seeking knowledge in Saudi Arabia, NO ONE I have EVER sat with or communicated with in ANY way has EVER recommended that I ever read a book by Mahmood al-Haddaad, let alone PUT THE BOOK IN MY HAND and encourage me to read it, OTHER THAN ABU USAAMAH ATH-THAHABEE.
While we should have been busy pre-reading and reviewing for our lessons every day, studying from great scholars and top students of knowledge, we were busy reading al-Haddaad’s book of misguidance behind the scenes and planning how we were going to confront the mashaayikh about the issues raised in that book.
One stupid issue that my “shaykh” Abu Usamah focused on was the “abandoned Sunnah of leaving your shirt buttons open” and Mahmood Haddaad was refuting the scholars and attacking them because they would not agree with him on that issue being a Sunnah. We took the issue to one of our shaykhs who said that undoing the buttons was a custom not a Sunnah. We looked at each other like we knew the reality. Wallaahi, I thank Allaah that He saved me from the true Haddaadiyyah that Abu Usamah was trying to mislead me into, and that He opened my eyes to the reality of this man.
Now, he attacks the Salafee du’aat, calling them haddaadees. Interesting…
Now, he defends Yusuf Estes, saying he’s got something to offer, and he’s somehow like Mujaahid ibn Jabr the great early imam of tafseer?
Now, when placed in front of the choice to aid the distinction of the aqeedah of ahlus-Sunnah from the filth of the Jahmiyyah, he takes an opportunity to defend the complete ignoramus spreading Jahmiyyah, tashbeeh, mockery of the hudood, Quranic justification of George Bush invading Afghanistan, etc. and to speak against the “wisdom” in how he was dealt with.
Al-hamdulillaah the One who showed me his deviance ten years ago, and helped me get away from him and all those like him. And there is nothing like safety in Islam.
While I am open to all those who have advised me about being more wise in dealing with the mistakes of Yusuf Estes, and I am thankful to everyone who has emailed me or called me with advice, and I thank Allaah that I am able to open my heart and try to find good in every email I read, I just find it hard to take Abu Usamah seriously in this matter, quite honestly.
2. This clarification is against Islamic manners, since Yusuf Estes has not been advised.
I assure you that Yusuf Estes has been advised much, regarding this and many other issues. He has not shown a desire to correct his ways, but instead, a love for his reputation that prevents him from rectifying his errors. Besides, whether or not Yusuf Estes has been advised before does not prevent you – right now – from recognizing the truth in this clarification and adopting the correct Islamic beliefs if you have been affected by his teachings.
3. Yusuf Estes is not a scholar, nor has he claimed to be one, and he makes mistakes like everyone else.
No one is perfect in their da’wah work, and people do make mistakes. We are however required to identify and rectify mistakes attributed the perfect Religion of Allah, especially when they are as offensive as the atrocities committed by Yusuf Estes in the passages quoted in this clarification.
Furthermore, any person who speaks on behalf of Islam is required to speak with knowledge. Speaking about Allah without knowledge is a heinous crime, as mentioned in this clarification. When considering the gravity of the mistakes mentioned in this clarification, a logical conclusion can be reached – Yusuf Estes was simply not qualified to speak on behalf of the Religion in the first place.
It should also be known that Jahm ibn Safwan himself, the one to whom the Jahmiyyah Cult is ascribed, was a common man with no Islamic knowledge. It was only after debating with atheists in attempts to call them to Islam that he developed his line of thinking and began to spread it and then became popular. The wicked beliefs of the Jahmiyyah have since plagued the Muslim Ummah for over 1300 years and they have been the reason for some of the worst trials in the history of Islam! All of this came originally from an ignorant man with no Islamic knowledge! So we must not underestimate the level of harm that an ignoramus can create, even while he intends good.
Jahm was not an imam of innovation by way of knowledge, rather he became an imam because of the number of followers. The founder of the Jahmiyyah cult was just a regular man with no Islamic knowledge who began using philosophy to call some non-Muslims to Islam. So he became considered an imam of misguidance because of the number of people he misled. This is VERY comparable to Yusuf Estes for those who look at the issue with fairness and balance.
There is an excellent response to the false propaganda that Yusuf Estes does not claim to be a scholar, as stated by Assim al-Hakeem, a self-contradictory TV star plagued with the same disease as Yusuf Estes, constantly speaking above his level of understanding. One of the most obvious examples of this is recommending people to listen to Ibn Baaz and Ibn Uthaymeen instead of Rabee’ al-Madkhalee. Both Ibn Baaz and Ibn Uthaymeen (like the other well-known scholars of today) praised al-Madkhalee highly and encourage the masses to benefit from him. Furthermore, his personal website contains several misleading, mistaken fatwaas devoid of any evidence. A quick review of his website shows that. He expects that the people refer back to him as a scholar for fatwaas, and while they even ask for evidence, they only get yes and no answers with no evidence.
The specific response to this man’s false propaganda about Yusuf Estes not claiming to be a scholar can be reviewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dw9qIFgggQ and it shows just how much he knows about the issues he talks about!
While the whole idea that Yusuf Estes doesn’t have any claim to knowledge is just a smoke-screen anyway… The issues remain. The man has taught Jahmiyyah and other beliefs of KUFR (by consensus) for the last ten years, whether he’s excused because of ignorance or not.
4. This article is the result of hunting for mistakes, like some kind of “witch-hunt”.
I said this three weeks ago in the origina PDF:
When scholars and students of knowledge identify and warn the Muslims of deviant beliefs that oppose the consensus of Ahlus-Sunnah in basic matters of Islamic belief, they must not be demonized or slandered. Instead, you should pray for their success and think well of them, as they are fulfilling an essential need of the Muslim nation.
And quite simply, whether the article is the result of a “witch-hunt” or not, this must not prevent you from identifying false beliefs of apostasy and shunning them.
(No need to update this point! Assim al-Hakeem actually comes three weeks later to announce that the clarification is the result of a “witch-hunt”!!)
5. The mistakes of Yusuf Estes are small, excusable errors, and people are blowing them out of proportion.
No honest Muslim with knowledge of aqeedah and the errors of Yusuf Estes could possibly say that.
Go back and read the clarification. By Allah, someone who speaks like this has simply not read or tried to understand the clarification. Or they are filthy hizbees trying to help in their ikhwaanee cover-up.
6. This kind of clarification is ghuluw (religious extremism or going overboard).
Religious extremism is clearly found in the excessive attachments that some Muslims have to popular personalities, which interfere with their ability to view issues with balance and identify falsehood and shun it.
This article invites the reader to identify a number of serious false beliefs being attributed to Islam, and to take the appropriate position on them. This is the furthest thing from ghuluw (religious extremism).
7. The critic has mistakes, too.
Agreed. However, it is Christianity where people must be “free of sin before they cast the first stone.” In Islam, we are required to forbid evil when it appears, while no one is perfect.
Furthermore, the mistakes of the author of this clarification (may Allah forgive him) must not prevent you – right now – from following the truth when it comes to you and shunning falsehood once it becomes known to you.
8. Yusuf Estes has done so much good, and we have to be fair.
Agreed. Muslims are required to be fair and just. The author of the clarification has made no attempt to belittle any good work done by Yusuf Estes. No one’s good deeds are being rejected, ridiculed, criticized, undervalued, or looked down upon in the clarification.
Having said that, the reality is that Yusuf Estes is currently in danger of losing the potential rewards for his good deeds due to his words of apostasy. It is this very article, a bitter dose of live-saving medicine, that could save him from the end result of the horrible path he has chosen, by Allah’s Permission. May Allah give him the strength and courage needed to put aside his personal pride, humbly embrace the correct beliefs of Islam, and abandon the vile statements of apostasy that he has fallen into and spread.
Furthermore, warning the Muslims against what could draw them into the Hellfire could never – in any way whatsoever – be considered an act of injustice.
9. Yusuf Estes has repented and retracted those mistakes.
Actually, while we were hoping for this, fully ready to help him and back him up when he retracts, the exact opposite has taken place. In the last three weeks, he has changed some of his beliefs openly, like saying the Quran is actually a book, yet he adds, “as we have always believed.”
So there is no retraction actually being offered. Only deception. He is lying about his legacy of teachings, and everyone who has seen his teachings over the past ten years knows this clearly.
10. The critic has gone overboard in following Yusuf Estes’ every move.
Not only was it a clear lie to make people laugh, but laugh at what? An issue that is a central point of belief in Islam, one that identifies a Muslim from a kaafir.
The original clarification that – by Allaah’s Permission – has corrected the aqeedah of many Muslims, including Yusuf Estes himself (to some degree, whether he admits it or not), and many of his dedicated followers:

Question: The questioner says: What is the meaning of the statement from some of the Salaf: The innovatorsare like the scorpion, he buries his head while leaving his tail out, such that when he is able to, he stings?
Yes. This speech is clear. The people of innovation have with them hypocrisy. The people of innovation have been afflicted with hypocrisy. And it is that they display good while they hide evil, they display good to the people as a way of deception.
يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
They try to deceive Allah and those who believe…(SoorahAl-Baqarah 2:9)
And they conceal the evil. And when they have the ability to spread evil, they spread it, just like the scorpion.
