(Must Read) Words Worthy of Golden Ink
It was narrated upon Shaqeeq al-Balkhi (rahimahullah) that he said to Hatim:
“You have accompanied me for a while so what have you learnt from me?”
He said:“ I have learnt from you 8 things:
Firstly: I looked at the creation and found that every person has something which is beloved to him and when he reaches his grave this beloved thing is cut off from him. So I have made my beloved, my good deeds so that it will remain with me in the grave.
Secondly: I looked at the saying of Allah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) :
“And as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires and lusts”
So I strove against my soul defending it from desires until it settled upon obedience to Allah.
Thirdly: I saw that everyone who has something precious safeguards it (with much care), so then I looked at the saying of Allah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala):
“And that which you have will perish and that which is with Allah will remain”
So whenever I came across something which I found to be precious I directed it to Him so that it will remain with Him for me.
Fourthly: I saw that the people were depending upon their wealth, nobility and dignity, which are all nothing (in reality) so I looked at the saying of Allah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala):
“Indeed the most honorable of you in the sight of Allah are those who are most pious amongst you”
So I proceeded upon taqwa in order to gain an honorable standing with him (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) .
Fifthly: I saw the people being jealous of each other so I looked at the saying of Allah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala):
“We have divided between them their livelihood”
So I abandoned jealousy because it is in opposition to the destiny of Allah.
Sixthly: I saw them having enmity between themselves so I looked at the saying of Allah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala):
“Indeed the Satan is an enemy for you so take him as your enemy”
So I abandoned this enmity and took the shaytaan as my sole enemy.
Seventhly: I saw them resorting to shameful measures in search for provision so I looked at the saying of Allah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala):
“And there is not a creature on the Earth except that Allah provides for it”.
So I engaged myself (in establishing) His rights that He (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) has over me and entrusted what is mine, with him, in assurance of his promise.
Eighthly: I saw them relying (solely) upon their trade and products and strong healthy bodies but I put my trust in Allah the lord of the worlds.

Some Tremendous Scholarly Benefits
Relayed by student Abu Remlah Adam Lazerus (hafidhahullaah)
- Simple yet Tremendous Advice from the Salaf
Abul ‘Aaliyah (d. 93H, rahimahullaah) said:
“Upon you is (to stick to) the First Affair which they used to be upon BEFORE the people split (and deviated).”
Ibn ‘Abbaas (radiallaahu ‘anhumma) advised Uthman Al-Azdi:
“Upon you is to have Taqwaa of Allaah and uprightness; FOLLOW and do NOT innovate.” شرح السنة للبغوي
- The Importance of Tawheed & Rectification of ‘Aqeedah
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
The Prophet (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) did NOT care about establishing the state (a government), rather he only gave care to establishing at-Tawheed!
- Ahlus-Sunnah Do not Betray the Truth
Shaykh Abu Muhammad Ahmad Subay’ee (hafidhahullaah) said:
A person of Sunnah may fall short and may sin [it's possible], but he doesn’t betray the Truth, like Ahl-Ahwa` (people of desires & bidah) betray it.
- The Importance of Sincerity and a Warning against what opposes it
Shaikh Abu ‘Uthmaan Muhammad Al-Anjaaree (hafidhahullaah) said:
There’s a difference between (one) who wants to spread the Truth & between (one) who wants his status to be raised due to spreading the Truth.
Shaikh Abu ‘Uthmaan Muhammad Al-Anjaaree (hafidhahullaah) said:
Do not use your Religion or your ‘Aqeedah as a bridge to attain your wordly goals. Allaah is the most not in need of Shirk!
- Clarity in The Religion – distinction between truth and falsehood – and closing the door to any confusion
Shaykh Abu Muhammad Ahmad Subay’ee (hafidhahullaah) said:
To say generally “go to the people of knowledge” doesn’t provide guidance to the creation. We must name them as the Salaf did – after the fitnah occurred - as in Sahih Muslim: “Name us your men.” So now, name for us: who are the trustworthy carriers of knowledge whom you guide the youth to? So it is necessary that we name Shaikh Rabee’ bin Haadee al-Madkhalee, Shaikh ‘Ubaid al-Jaabiree, Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzaan, and other than them upon their way, so people won’t be upon ignorance and confusion.
Shaikh Muhammad Nasir-ud-Deen al-Albaanee (rahimahullaah) said:
“Verily, the true Religion of Islaam separates, and that is because the Qur`an separates. It separates between truth and falsehood, and our da’wah separates between truth and falsehood. And due to that, our Da’wah – which is the da’wah of truth – separates between the person of truth and the person of falsehood. And that is what the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) did when he came with his da’wah.”
Shaikh Rabee’ bin Haadee al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) said:
Upon you is to have (تميز) differentiation in your da’wah. Ahl-Sunna MUST clarify Truth which differentiates between them & ahl-bidah.
Shaykh Abu Muhammad Ahmad Subay’ee (hafidhahullaah) said:
Whoever only wants to confront outright falsehood, then most of the time he doesn’t strive to make the Truth clear & apparent.
- Beware of Ahlul-Bid’ah and their deceptions, false claims, tricks, lies…
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) said:
Dr. Ibraheem Ruhayli – and those like him – deceive the Salafees and the beginner students of knowledge, so due to that we say: They are people of doubts; it is not permissible to:
* sit with them
* or listen to them
* or take knowledge from them.
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
In this time, they come with a new Manhaj, saying, ‘so and so is Salafee or Sunni, but he has mistakes.’ But when you look into his mistakes, you see he is a Kharijee or Rafidee by speaking bad about the sahaaba, or Jahmee. So this claim of theirs (that he is Salafee) is false. [Sharh Ibaana Sughraa]
Ibn ‘Awn (d.151H, rahimahullaah) said:
“Those who sit with ahl-bidah are MORE SEVERE upon us than ahl-bidah themselves.”
Shaykh ‘Ubaid ibn ‘Abdullaah al-Jaabiree (hafidhahullaah) said:
Nothing has strengthened many of ahl-bidah today as much as the excuses made for them by some who claim to be from Ahl-Sunnah!
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee Al-Madkhali (hafidhahullaah) said:
Theseجمعيات (dawah organizations) STEAL PEOPLE’S ‘AQEEDAH by giving them money!
- From Jihaad in the way of Allaah
Shaykh Ahmad ibn Yahya An-Najmee (rahimahullaah) said:
Seeking knowledge of the Qur`an, Sunnah & way of Salaf FROM SALAFI SCHOLARS is from striving in the Path of Allaah.
Shaykh Ahmad ibn Yahya An-Najmee (rahimahullaah) said:
Striving against ahl-bidah, and clarifying their danger and corruption is from striving in the Path of Allaah.
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
Ibn Battah (rahimahullaah) listed names of imams of misguidance, even though they were dead and gone, so that all who live after can beware of their books.
- A Warning against Refusing to Aid the Truth
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) said:
As for the mukathilah (those who don’t aid the truth and its people) today, they are treacherously attacking Ahlus-Sunnah. By Allaah, they are more harmful than those who are originally people of Bid’ah, whose bid’ah is apparent (those who don’t hide their bid’ah). The Salaf used to warn against those who sit with Ahlul-Bid’ah, so what about someone who takes Ahlul-Bid’ah as companions and defends them. There is no doubt he is from Ahlul-Bid’ah; he openly defends them.
Shaikh Abu ‘Uthmaan Muhammad Al-Anjaaree (hafidhahullaah) said:
From the enemies of Ahlus-Sunnah are al-mukhaithilah (those who don’t aid the truth and its people), and from al-mukhaithilah are those sick with a hidden desire: the disease of loving fame, leadership, and finding status for oneself.

- No one is above the truth!
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
When we mention Abu Hanifa’s opposition to the hadeeth, it doesn’t mean we disgrace him, but the hadeeth are greater to our hearts.
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
The one who speaks without knowledge should be advised; if he doesn’t accept, he should be boycotted & abandoned إبانةصغرى
- The importance of Following the Sunnah, and the Deviance of those who prevent it!
Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) relayed that Imam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) said:
“Whoever prohibits people from raising their hands during the prayer (at the start of the prayer, before ruku’, and after ruku’) is an Innovator!
‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Umar (radiallaahu ‘ahumma) would gather pebbles to throw at whoever he saw not raising his hands during the prayer – to show his rejection of them – because they opposed the Sunnah of Muhammad (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).” [Sharh Ibaana Sughraa]
Ibn Abi Dawood (d. 316 H, rahimahullaah) said:
The people of opinion are people of bid’ah. —-> Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said: Verily, bid’ah is the result of opinion.
- How Evil are Ahlul-Bid’ah! They Hate Hadeeth!
Baqiyyah said: “[Imam] Al-Awza’ee said to me:
‘Oh Abu Muhammad. What do you say about a people who hate the hadeeth of their Prophet?’ So I said: ‘They are an evil people.’
Then Al-Awza’ee said:
There’s not a person of bid’ah that you tell him a hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (salaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) that opposes his bid’ah except that he hates the hadeeth!”
[Sharf AsHabul-Hadeeth al-Khateeb] [So instead of repenting and freeing himelf from his bid'ah and hating his bid'ah, he chooses instead to hate revelation! How evil are Ahlul-Bid'ah!!]
Shaykh Abu Muhammad Ahmad Subay’ee (hafidhahullaah) said:
From the virtues and tremendous Mercy and Generosity of Allaah is that all the Imams of the Arabic language were likewise Imams from Ahlus-Sunnah until the 3rd Generation. So the correct understanding of the meanings of the Qur`an and Sunnah were preserved how the Sahaaba understood them. Then Ahlul-Bid’ah saw how they can use the language to mis-interpret the meanings of the text to lead the people astray. They also translated the bid’ah of the disbelievers and clothed it in Arabic.
Shaykh ‘Ubaid ibn ‘Abdullaah al-Jaabiree (hafidhahullaah) said:
And all the new da’wah groups are opponents to Salafiyyah, and they are all enemies to the Sunnah. This is because they are astray and lead others astray. And what is sufficient as a proof of their misguidance is that they have all been established upon the statements of mankind and the foundations laid by mankind… But as for Salafiyyah, it has no founder from amongst mankind, rather it is from Allaah! It was [conveyed] by the Prophets and Messengers.
- Loving for Allaah’s Sake
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) said:
1- Love & Hate for Allaah’s sake is a tremendous foundation of Eeman in the books of ‘Aqeedah; it is WAJIB on the Muslim to pay CLOSE attention!
2- Must Love for Allaah’s sake (the one) who is upright on obedience to Allaah & His Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) - EVEN IF no relation (to you), far away & against you in worldly matters!
3- Must Hate for Allaah (the one) who opposes Allaah & His Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), or befriends opposers EVEN IF (he is) close relative (of yours) or aids you in worldly matters إبانةصغرى
- Tazkiya is upon knowledge
Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) said:
Don’t recommend & praise someone EXCEPT UPON KNOWLEDGE…If only those who recommend people would stop doing that. شرح السنة#
- Reasons for Deviance!
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
Everyone who has left the path of Ahl-Sunnah has [left] due to his sitting with the people of desires & innovations. إبانةصغرى
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
If you sit with a person of bidah, it’s your first step to becoming from ahl-bidah & leaving Ahl-Sunnah; your Deen has weakened.
Abu Qulaabah (d.107 H, rahimahullaah) said:
Verily the people of desires(bid’ah) are people of misguidance, and I only see that their path leads to the Hellfire.
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
Da’wah to ahl-bidah does NOT necessitate any friendship or keeping company with them or prolonged sitting with them.
- Cheating and Deceiving the Ummah
Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) said:
If you’re asked about one you know has been refuted, but you remain silent, then you have CHEATED the ummah of Muhammad (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). إبانة
Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) said:
Remaining silent about ahlul-bid’a is the greatest ghish (deception) of the Muslims, and is not permissible!
- Harming the perception of Islaam, making themselves obstacles in the spread of Islaam
Shaykh ‘Ubaid ibn ‘Abdullaah al-Jaabiree (hafidhahullaah) said:
During the first three virtuous generations, thousands – if not Millions – had entered Islaam out of love for it and love for its people. And they saw how Islaam preserved their rights, wealth and lives. They saw in it justice and that the Muslims ruled with justice, and a Muslim couldn’t oppress a disbeliever. If a disbeliever had a right taken by a Muslim, he could take him to a judge and get his right. So are the Khawaarij who (falsely) claim to be “Ahlus-Sunnah” upon this? Never!!

Two Beautiful Transmissions From Shaikh Falaah and Shaikh Abdullaah Al-Bukhaari
In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy
Sheikh Falaah Ismaa-eel (may Allaah preserve him) says that his Sheikh, Sheikh Muhammad Amaan al Jaami (Rahimahullaah) said: ”The one who is not able to exercise patience in the path of knowledge will not be able to exercise patience in worship; and the one who is not able to exercise patience in worship will not be able to exercise patience in the path of calling to Allaah.” [1]
Shaikh Abdullaah Al-Bukhaari (may Allaah preserve him) said that their shaikh Al-Allaamah Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaami (rahimahullaah) said: ‘’Rectification is more cumbersome than enactment.’’ [2]

Sage Advice by Imaam Sufyaan Ath-Thauree (rahimahullaah)
Imaam Sufyaan (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
Be truthful at all times and in all places. Stay away from lying and from deception, and do not sit alongside liars and deceivers, for all such deeds are sins.
My brother, be careful not to show off, either in speech or in deed, for showing off is Shirk itself (Shirk being to associate partners with Allaah in worship).
Do not be conceited, for even a good deed is not raised (to the heavens) if any conceitedness is involved in it.
Take your religion only from one who is sincerely and compassionately concerned about his own religious guidance. The example of a scholar who is not concerned about his own religious well-being is that of a sick doctor: If he cannot treat his own disease…then how can he treat the diseases of others…? Likewise, if one is not concerned about his own religious well-being, then how can he be concerned about the religious well-being of others?
My brother, your religion is nothing more than your flesh and blood (i.e., You should be concerned about your religious well-being, because if you aren’t, it is your flesh and blood that will pay the penalty through the punishment of Allaah). Cry out of concern for your soul and have mercy on it; if you do not have mercy on it, then mercy will not be shown to it.
Sit only in the company of one who advises you to desire little from this world and who encourages you to put your hopes in the Hereafter. Take care not to sit with worldly people who speak constantly about worldly affairs; such people will ruin your religious well-being and will corrupt your heart.
Remember death frequently, and just as frequently ask Allaah to forgive you for your past sins.
Ask Allaah to keep you safe (safe from evil, from dangerous diseases, from trials and tribulations, etc) for the remainder of your life.
My brother, develop a good character and noble manners.
Do not act contrary to the Jamaa’ah (the general body of Sunni Muslims), for goodness and safety are the consequences of being in harmony with the Jamaa’ah.
Someone who strives constantly for this world is like a person who builds one home and destroys another (because he builds prosperity for himself in this world, while he destroys all chances of becoming prosperous in the Hereafter).
Give sincere advice to every believer who asks you a question regarding his religion. And never hide good advice to someone who asks you about a matter that leads to the Good Pleasure of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala).
If you love your (Muslim) brother for the sake of Allaah, then give him generously from your self and your wealth.
Stay far away from arguments, quarrels, and disputes; otherwise, you will become a wrongdoer, a transgressor, and a deceiver.
Be patient at all times and in all places, for patience leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. Do not become angry and furious, for those two emotions lead to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire.
Do not argue with a scholar, for that will lead to him loathing you. Being able to visit scholars (and learn from them) is a mercy, and cutting oneself off from them means that one is bringing down upon himself the wrath of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala). Verily, the scholars are the treasurers of the Prophets (‘alayhumus salaam) and are also their inheritors.
Turn away from worldly pleasures and things (to a certain degree), and, as a result, Allaah will enable you to see the faults and defects of this world. Be a man of Wara’ (one who forsakes all dubious and some lawful things because he fears that those things will lead to what is prohibited in Islaam), and (on the Day of Resurrection) Allaah will make your session of accountability easier for you.
Leave many of the things regarding which you are doubtful, and replace them with things regarding which you are not doubtful, and you will, as a result, remain safe: So by warding off doubt with certainty, you will remain safe in your religion.
Enjoin good and forbid evil — thus will you become loved by Allaah. Despise wicked-doers, and drive away devils (regardless of whether they are humans or jinn).
If you want to become strong (in faith)…then be exultant only a little and laugh only a little when you get something you want from this world. Concentrate on working for the Hereafter; if you do that, Allaah will be sufficient for you regarding your worldly concerns….
Ask Allaah for safety (in both your religious and worldly affairs). If you intend to something for your Hereafter – such as giving charity – then apply yourself to doing it quickly before the Shaytaan (the Devil) weakens your resolve and thus prevents you from doing it.
Do not be a heavy eater, whereby you work less than you eat, for that is disliked (in Islaam). Do not eat without an intention, and do not eat when you are not hungry. And do not fill your stomach constantly until you become a corpse, not having remembered Allaah while you were alive (but instead having been concerned with eating to your full and fulfilling your desires).
Decrease the frequency with which you fall into error, accept apologizes (from those who wronged you), and forgive the person who wronged you.
Be the type of person from whom people generally expect good things and from whose evil people feel safe.
Do not hate anyone who obeys Allaah, and be merciful both towards people in general and towards those with whom you are well-acquainted (or both to the general masses of Muslim and to people of high standing in society).
Do not sever the ties of the womb (i.e., do not cut off relations with family members and relatives), and join ties with those who have severed them from you. Pardon those who wronged you, and you will, as a result, become a companion of the Prophets and martyrs.
Do not be a frequent visitor of the marketplace, for the people there (mostly sellers, but some buyers also) are wolves in men’s clothing. Marketplaces are often frequented by devils – devils both of the human kind and of the jinn kind. When you enter the marketplace, it becomes obligatory upon you to enjoin good and forbid evil – but know that you will only see evil there. Stand to one side of the marketplace and call out: ‘I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah alone; He has no partner; the dominion of all that exists belongs to Him. He is deserving of all praise. It is He Who gives life, and it is He Who causes death. All goodness is in His hands, and He is upon all things capable. There is neither might nor power except with Allaah, the All-High, the All-Mighty. [ Check - 1 Million Virtues + 1 Million Sins Forgiven + 1 Million Grades Raised]
Do not enter into disputes with worldly people over their worldly things, and, as a result, Allaah will love you, and the people of earth will love you.
And be humble….When you are healthy, do good deeds, and you will be granted safety and health (physically and spiritually) from above.
Be a forgiving person, and you will get the things you want. Be a merciful person, and all things will be merciful towards you.
My brother, do not allow your days, nights, and hours to be wasted on falsehood. Spend from your self for yourself – for the Day of Thirst (the Day of Resurrection). My brother, your thirst will not be quenched on the Day of Resurrection unless the Most Merciful is pleased with you, and you will not achieve His Good pleasure unless you are obedient to Him. Perform many voluntary good deeds, for they have the effect of bringing you closer to Allaah.
Be generous, and your faults will be covered, and Allaah will make easier for you your session of accountability (on the Day of Resurrection) as well as the horrors (that will take place on that day).
Perform many good deeds, and Allaah will make you feel happy and at ease in your grave. Stay away from all prohibited deeds, and thus will you taste the sweetness of faith (Eemaan). Sit in the company of righteous and pious people, and Allaah will make well for you the affairs of your religion. And in the affairs of your religion, consult those who fear Allaah. Hasten to perform good deeds, and Allaah will protect you from disobeying Him.
Remember Allaah frequently, and, as a result, Allaah will make you less desirous of this world (and its pleasures and possessions). Remember death, and, as a result, Allaah will make your worldly affairs easier for you. Yearn for Paradise, and, as a result, Allaah will help you obey Him. Be frightened by the Hellfire, and, as a result, Allaah will make it easier for you to endure the hardships of this life.”

AL-FAWA’ID A COLLECTION OF WISE SAYINGS Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim
The first is a meeting based on sociability and spending time, in which are more disadvantages than advantage, the least of which is corruption of the heart, and wasting time.
The Second kind is a meeting for the sake of supporting one another, and recommending one another to the truth and to patience. This is the best kind, yet there are still three disadvantages therein,
1. Flattering each other.
2. Being excessively talkative.
3. That such meetings become a habit or routine and they fail to achieve their aims.
Enjoying health, this worldly life, status, a wife or children, then surely those feelings are temporary and will eventually dissipate. (AL-FAWA’ID A COLLECTION OF WISE SAYINGS Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim) There are three kinds of passive feelings, which affect the heart and they are either related to the past, which causes sorrow, or related to the future so as to cause grief, of finally related to the present so as to cause distress. (AL-FAWA’ID A COLLECTION OF WISE SAYINGS Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim) If the heart is not pure or honourable enough, and distance from every evil and malice, then it is unworthy to love, know and aspire to Allah. On the contrary, the lowest description of man’s heart is that he loves and aspires to this worldly life instead to Allah, the Almighty.
When man’s love, knowledge and aspiration is directed in this worldly way, the heart becomes narrow and gloomy as it is distant from the source of its revival and life.
(AL-FAWA’ID A COLLECTION OF WISE SAYINGS Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim) Subsequently, the hearts of man can be divided into two kinds, the first of which is the heart of those, who incline to the Beneficent, which is the source of brightness, life, happiness, pleasure, delight and blessings. The second one is the throne of the devil where narrowness, darkness, death, sorrow, distress and grief are settled therein. This heart is obsessed by sorrow for the past, and grief and distress for the present.
(AL-FAWA’ID A COLLECTION OF WISE SAYINGS Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim) In order for a place to contain something, it must be free from whatever contradicts it. This principle applies to mankind and all creation as well as to belief and desires. So, if the hearts is obsessed by belief in falsehood, there will be no place for truth.
Accordingly, if the tongue is involved in trivial discourse, one shall be incapable of useful speech, unless falsehood is abandoned.
(AL-FAWA’ID A COLLECTION OF WISE SAYINGS Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim) Hence, if the body is busy doing wrong actions, then acts of worship will be inapplicable unless these contradictory actions are abandoned. Piety has Three Levels
1. Protecting the heart and limbs against sin and forbidden actions.
2. Protecting them against undesirable matters.
3. Protecting against curiosity and whatever is not of one’s concern.
The first will grant life to the servant, the second will grant his health and power, and the third will grant him happiness and joy.

No one can indulge in unlawfulness except for two reasons, the first of which is failing to trust in Allah, despite the fact that if one obeys Him, he will surely be granted the best of lawful gains.
The second reason is knowing that whoever abandons anything for the sake of Allah, surely He will grant him something better than what he has abandon.
Unfortunately, his vain desires surpass his patience and his inclination overpowers his mind, The first one has poor knowledge, and the second one has poor insight.

The door of Tawfeeq (i.e. success) has been closed on the people because of six things
Ibn ul Qayyim Al Jawziyah (Rahimahullah) mentioned in his monumental book “Fawaa’id ul Fawaa’id” on the authority of Shaqeeq Ibn Ibrahim (Rahimahullah),
Who said:The door of Tawfeeq (i.e. success) has been closed on the people because of six things:
- The First: Because they (i.e. the people) busy themselves with the Ni’mah (i.e. blessing) bestowed upon them andforget about the gratitude they should express to Allah, the One who bestowed the favor on them.
- The Second: Because they have an ardent desire for knowledge however, they abandon acting upon it.
- The Third: Because they hasten to commit sin but delay repentance for the sin.
- The Fourth: Because they are deceived by the companionship of the righteous but fail to emulate their actions.
- The Fifth: Because the life of this world is behind them but they are insistent on chasing after it.
- The Sixth: Because the hereafter is in front of them but they turn away from it.
- The source of all of this stems from a lack of Raja’a (i.e. hope in Allah’s mercy) and Khowf (i.e. fear of Allah’s punishment and the fact that He may not accept any of your deeds).
- And the origin of this stems from a weakness in Yaqeen (i.e. certainty).
- And the origin of this stems from a weakness in Baseerah (i.e. sound legislative knowledge).
- And the origin of this stems from humiliation and ignobility and exchanging that which is superior for that which is mediocre.
If the individual was noble and ambitious he would not settle for mediocre. The source of every good is by the Tawfeeq (i.e. success) of Allah as well as by His will, the nobility of the soul, its magnanimity and exaltedness. Subsequently, the source of every evil is the villainousness of the soul, its ignobility and lowliness,
as Allah says:
…
“Indeed he will be successful who purifies his soul and he who corrupts his own soul will fail…”
Meaning, the one who exalts his soul, multiplies it’s good and nurtures it upon obedience to Allah, will be successful. However, the one who disgraces his soul and humiliates it by exposing it to sin and disobedience to Allah will utterly lose. Thus the noble souls are not satisfied except with the finer things in life, those things that reap the most praiseworthy outcome. On the other hand, the ignoble souls loiter around the lowliest affairs just as the fly that only lands on feces.
Hence the noble and superior soul is not satisfied with oppression, fornication/adultery, stealing or betrayal due to the fact that he considers himself more dignified to commit such acts. However, the ignoble soul is the total opposite. And every soul will incline towards what is in conformity with it’s desire(s) and what it deems suitable. This is consistent with the statement of Allah:
“Every soul shall act according to what it inclines towards…”
Meaning, every soul will act upon what is in conformity with it’s desires. The soul will act upon what it deems suitable and appropriate for it. Thus, every soul will proceed upon the path that is natural for it. So the Fajir (i.e. criminal) soul will act according to what is natural for it, of welcoming the blessing(s) of Allah with sin while turning away from Al Mun’im (i.e. The Giver of all bounty and blessing).
Yet the believer acts according to what is natural for him, of gratitude to Allah, the One who grants His bounty to whomsoever He wills. Also loving Him, praising
Him, showing affection to Him and being modest before Him, while the slave is conscious of the fact that Allah is evaluating his every movement, coupled with magnification and glorification of Him.

We ask Allah that He saves us from all that is lowly in the sight of Allah, even if the people see it as something normal.
Some gems from the Salaf
Some sayings of the Salaf
Mâlik ibn Dînâr (rahimahullâh) said,
“Whoever proposed to the world, then the world would not be satisfied until he gave up his Deen as dowry.”
Bakr ibn ‘Abdullâh al-Muzanî (rahimahullâh) said,
“If you see someone older than you then respect him saying, ‘He has beaten me to Islâm and righteous action.’ If you see someone younger than you then respect him saying to yourself, ‘I have beaten him in sins.’ If the people honour you then say, ‘That is from the grace of Allâh, but I do not deserve it.’ If they degrade you then say , ‘This happened as a consequence of a previous sin.
Sufyân ath-Thawrî (rahimahullâh) said,
“Whoever’s knowledge makes him weep, then he is a scholar (‘âlim). Allâh the Most High said, ‘Verily those who were given knowledge before it, when it is recited to them they fall down on their faces in humble prostration.’ [Sûrah Banî
Isrâ’îl (17):107] He also said, ‘When the verses (âyât) of Ar-Rahmân (The Most Merciful) is recited to them they fall in prostration weeping.’ ”
Fudayl ibn ‘Iyâd (rahimahullâh) said,
“A believer plants a palm tree and fears that thorns will grow. The hypocrites plant thorns expecting ripe dates to grow!”
Once ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdul ‘Azîz (rahimahullâh) was advised,
“O ‘Umar, beware of being the ally of Allâh in open, while being His enemy in secret. If one’s nature in open and secret do not equate then he is a hypocrite, and the hypocrites occupy the lowest level in Hellfire.”
Ahmad ibn Harb (rahimahullâh) said,
“There is nothing more beneficial to a Muslim’s heart than to mix with the righteous and to watch their actions, while nothing is more harmful to the heart than mixing with the sinners and watching their actions
Ahmad ibn Harb (rahimahullâh) would say,
“If six mannerisms are gathered in a woman, her goodness is perfected: Guarding the five prayers, yielding to her husband, pleasing her Lord, guarding her tongue from backbiting and gossip, forsaking worldly possessions, and being patient following a tragedy.”
Yahyâ ibn Mu‘âdh (rahimahullâh) said,
“Renew your hearts with the remembrance of Allâh because it rushes into forgetfulness.”
‘Abdullâh ibn Mubârak (rahimahullâh) would say,
“The world is the believer’s prison. The best action in the prison is patience and control of one’s anger. The believer has no country in the world, His land will be there tomorrow in the Afterlife.”
One of the Salaf used to say,
“If you want to be close to Allâh then put an iron wall between yourself and your desires.”
Fudayl ibn ‘Iyâd (rahimahullâh) said,
“If Iblîs conquers the son Âdam with one of the three [things] he says: I will not seek anything else from him – 1) being fond of himself, 2) deeming his deeds to be plentiful, and 3) forgetfulness of his sins.”
Al-Hasan (rahimahullâh) said,
“If shaytân saw you consistently obeying Allâh he will seek you time and time again. If he sees your consistency he grows weary of you and rejects you. If you changed, however, each and every time, then he begins to have hope in you.”
Ash-Shâfi‘î (rahimahullâh) said,
“Whoever spread gossip for you spreads gossip against you. Whoever relates tales to you will tell tales about you. Whoever when you please him says about you what is not in you, when you anger him will say about you what is not in you.”
Fudayl ibn ‘Iyâd (rahimahullâh) said,
“Whoever’s admonition is much, his friends will be few.”
“If you can be unknown, be so; it doesn’t matter if you are not known and it doesn’t matter if you are not praised. It doesn’t matter if you are blameworthy according to people if you are praiseworthy with Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.”

Between The Past And The Future
Imâm Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah
al-Fawaa’id, pp 151-152, Al-Istiqaamah, No. 2
Then as regards the future (then it can be corrected) by withholding yourself from sins. And this abandonment is merely the leaving of something and to be at ease from it. This also is not action of the limbs, which requires you to strive and toil. Rather this is a firm resolve and intention of the heart – which will give rest to your body, heart and thoughts.
So as for what has preceded, then you rectify it with repentance. And as for the future – then you rectify it with firm resolve and intention. Neither of these involves any hardship or exertion of the limbs.
But then your attention must be directed to your life in the present – the time between two times. If you waste it, then you have wasted the opportunity to be of the fortunate and saved ones. If you look after it, having rectified the two times – what is before and after it, as we have said – then you will be successful and achieve rest, delight and ever-lasting bliss. However, looking after it is harder than that which comes before and after it, since guarding it involves keeping to that which is most befitting and beneficial for your soul, and that which will bring it success and well-being.
