Do you want to listen to tapes? Listen to the pure people of the Sunnah and the pure scholars of the Sunnah – Shaykh ‘Abdul-Laah bin ‘Abdir-Raheem al-Bukhaaree

Do you advise us to listen to the tapes of so and so?
Shaykh ‘Abdul-Laah bin ‘Abdir-Raheem al-Bukhaaree

This is a question, “Do you advise us to listen to the tapes of fulaan (so and so) and fulaan?” He named some individuals here, and there is no need to mention them. I will give you a shorter answer:

Do you want to listen to tapes? Listen to the pure people of the Sunnah and the pure scholars of the Sunnah. For verily, in them there is contentment and sufficiency! There are many of scholars from the scholars of the Sunnah, so why do you ask about those about whom there are correct and clear statements [of the scholars] and who are far away from the Sunnah from every aspect? And you leave those who are from Ahl-us-Sunnah from every aspect? This is from the lack of fiqh (understanding).

I.e. for example: ash-Shaykh al-Imaam ‘Abdul-’Azeez bin Baaz, may Allaah have mercy upon him, he has tapes with shuruhaat (explanations) and his tapes are many, correct? And our Shaykh, ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin ‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon all of them, his tapes are many. And ash-Shaykh al-Imaam al-Albaanee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, [his tapes] are also many. And ash-Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmee [his tapes] are many. And Shaykh al-Fawzaan [his tapes] are also many, and other than them from the scholars of the Sunnah. Correct? How many are these? How many tapes? I.e. if we say: ash-Shaykh ‘Abdul-’Azeez, ash-Shaykh bin ‘Uthaymeen and al-Albaanee, may Allaah have mercy upon all of them… I say: al-Albaanee has around 5000 recorded tapes. And Shaykh Muhammad (bin ‘Uthaymeen) and Shaykh ‘Abdul-’Azeez, if we say that they both have 5000 tapes; how many tapes are these? 10,000 tapes. If you listen every day to one tape, then you have 10,000 days left. If you listen every day to two tapes, you have 5000 days left. Correct?

Then there also remain, as we said, many collections [of tapes] which you need thousands and thousands of days for. Believe me, if you listen – and I don’t say 5000 or 2000 – if you listen to them only 360 days in a year… Are there 360 or 365 days [in a year]? (Audience replies with different answers) 60 or 65? Anyway, one full year. In one full year, you are not able to listen to other than them! If you listen to the scholars of the Sunnah, then you are – by Allaah – not able to listen to other than them!

Imaam Maalik (d.179) : Don’t Take Knowledge from Those Who Didn’t Sit With Scholars

Imaam Maalik (d.179) : Don’t Take Knowledge from Those Who Didn’t Sit With Scholars

Imaam Maalik bin Anas (d.179H), rahimahullaah, was asked:

“Is knowledge taken from one who has no studies, and has not sit with the ‘Ulamah?”

He (rahimahullaah) replied:

“No.”

See: Hilyatul-Awliyaa 6/323.

So if that is the case with one who has not sat with the scholars, not taken from them, not known to them – then how much more severe is it for one to take knowledge from one who has been warned against by the scholars?!

Seeking Knowledge to Become a Scholar – Shaykh Abdullaah al-Bukhaaree

Should I seek knowledge so I can become a Scholar?
Shaykh Abdullah Bukhari responds

Question:

The questioner says: What is your view on the person who says, “I’m seeking knowledge so I can become a Scholar?

Shaykh Abdullah Bukhari:

There is no might or power except with Allah. This statement is not permissible, and it is a contemptible statement. Rather it is obligatory upon the slave to seek knowledge so he can meet Allah the Exalted while He is pleased with him.

And as Ibn Al Qayyim may Allah have mercy upon him said: The scholars are of two categories. And he mentioned the evil scholars who call the people to paradise with their statements and call them to the hell-fire with their actions.  Every time their words say to the people ‘rush forward’, their actions say ‘don’t do it’. Thus seemingly they are humble while in reality they are highway robbers.

Thus it is obligatory for the person to purify this great act of worship for Allah the Exalted. And it is not permissible for him to say the likes of this statement. He should only seek knowledge to raise ignorance off himself and to know that which is incumbent upon him to learn.

قُلْ هَذِهِ سَبِيلِيَ أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ عَلَى بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي

Say, “This is my way; I invite to Allah with sure knowledge; I and those who follow me.

(Soorah Yusuf 12:108)

It is incumbent upon the person to learn so he can work by his knowledge. And the person may never become a scholar; thus will he give up seeking knowledge? When will the person become a scholar? Does it take a day, or two days, or a year or two years, or a month or two months? He may sit his entire life and not become a scholar. Thus he will fail, and with Allah refuge is sought.

Al-Imaam al-Qayrawaanee: “The First Foundation They Instill in You is Hatred for the Scholars” Comments by: Shaykh Ahmad Bazmool

Al-Imaam al-Qayrawaanee [d. 750 AH], may Allah have mercy on him, said:

The first foundation that they (i.e. the Soofiyyah) instill in you according to their methodology is hatred for the scholars and chasing people away from them … (1)

Shaykh Ahmad Bazmool, may Allah protect him, commented:

Question: Why do they lay this foundation?

The Answer:

They lay this foundation because the scholars distinguish between truth and falsehood. They are the inheritors of the Prophets, and they guide people from darkness to light. Likewise, the scholars are opposed to what they propagate.

So, the first thing the people of falsehood are intent on doing is to cloud the minds of their followers with evil descriptions of the scholars. This is how all the people of falsehood and innovation are: They must give the scholars evil descriptions. They do this so when the scholars warn against them and clarify their misguidance, their followers will be unaffected [by what they hear]. This is a dangerous affair.

This is why they speak ill of Salafee scholars and Salafee students of knowledge; they even speak ill of the Salafee youth, because the youth spread the speech of the scholars. They say: ‘Don’t listen to so-and-so; He is from the extremist, etc.’ – They warn against him. So, take notice of this agreed upon technique that all the people of falsehood employ.

The call the Salafees ‘extremist,’ ‘Haddaadees;’ ‘they promote dictatorship,’ etc. They use these descriptions to cause people to flee from them so they won’t hear the truth … (2)

Observation: Many people have changed their behavior with certain scholars who are known to openly clarify falsehood and identify its propagators; such as: Shaykh Rabee’, Shaykh ‘Ubayd, Shaykh Zayd, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Haadee, Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool, Shaykh Ahmad Bazmool, Shaykh ‘Abdullah al-Bukhaaree, etc., may Allah protect them all.

In the past, they would learn from them, attend their gatherings, visit them, take others to visit them, translate for them, spread their lectures and articles, seek and accept their advice, etc. – Now?

May Allah bless us with love for all of the scholars of the Sunnah, and may He protect us from the clear and subtle methods of those who seek to misguide us.

What ash-Shaykh al-Albaanee said about himself after he became 84yrs old!

December 5, 2012 Leave a comment

What was said by the Shaykh, al-Allaamah al-Albaanee (may Allaah have mercy on him) regarding himself after he became eighty four years old.

In Saheeh Mawaarid al-Dhamaan (2087) – The hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said, “The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) said,“The lifespan of (the people from) my ummah is between sixty to seventy years and few will go beyond that.”  Ibn ‘Arafah said, “And I am from those few.”

So the Shaykh (may Allaah have mercy on him) commented by saying:

“I say: I am also from amongst those few, since I have passed eighty four. I ask the Lord, the One free from all imperfections and the Most High, to make me amongst those whose life span is prolonged and their actions are beautified.

But even then, sometimes I nearly wish for death due to what has afflicted the Muslims from deviations in their deen, and the humiliation that has befallen them from the lowest of mankind. But Allaah forbid, and the hadeeth of Anas is before me. So it is not suitable for me to say anything except that which my Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) has ordered me with, “O Allaah keep me alive as long as life is good for me and take my life if that is good for me.”

And I supplicate with that which my Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) has taught me, “O Allaah provide us with the provision of our hearing, and our sight, and our strength as long as we are alive and make it a legacy from us.”

And indeed the One free from all imperfections has favoured me and responded by providing me with all of that. So I am able to research, authenticate, and write with the strength that very few have, and I pray the involuntary prayers standing, and I drive my car by myself covering vast distances, and at high speeds about which some of those who are close to me have advised me to reduce, but I have an explanation for that which is known to some of them!

I say this from the point, “And proclaim the bounty of your Lord.” (ad-Duhaa:11)

Hoping from my Lord, the One free from all imperfections and the Most High, that He increases His favours upon me, and makes all of that a legacy from me, and that He takes my life away while I am a Muslim, upon the Sunnah, for which I have dedicated my life in calling to and writing for. And that He unites me with the martyrs and the righteous, and they are the best companions, indeed He is the All-Hearing, the One who responds.

May Allaah have mercy on the Shaykh and grant him Firdaws.

Beautiful Yet Sad Story…

December 5, 2012 Leave a comment

..”Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful. 59:10

All praise is for Allaah, Lord of all the Worlds, who ordered us to follow His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and to call to His Way, and may Allaah send praises and blessings of peace upon our Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and upon his family, his Companions, and those who truly follow them until the Day of Judgment.

Beautiful Yet Sad Story…

In 1999 Allaah favoured me [Abul Irbaad] and my family with the opportunity to visit the Imaam of Hadeeth, Naasir us-Sunnah was-Salafiyyah, the Allaamah Abu Abdir-Rahmaan Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen al-Albaanee [d. 1420 H rahimahullaah]while he was in hospital in the Shamaysee district, Jordan.

We went early in the afternoon to the hospital and asked if they had a patient by the name of Shaykh Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen al-Albaanee, they looked on a whiteboard full of patients and sure enough there was a Muhammad Naasir ud-Deen on the list in Room 332 (or so, I can’t remember exactly).

We made our way up in the elevator and found the room, but we were informed the Shaykh was sleeping. The Shaykhs’ grandson allowed me to enter to see the Shaykh very quickly. In front of me lay a handsome white man, with little hair and a full white beard. His beautiful arms were stained with blue bruises from the injections he had been receiving. Although I left quickly, I was determined to return.

Later that day I returned to find the Shaykh had woken up, but one of his grandsons tried to prevent me from entering the room saying that it was time for his medicines. I told him that I had travelled all the way from Britain only to see the Shaykh and give him salaam, so how could he refuse me entry.

My wife went into another room where she met Umm Fadl, the Shaykhs’ wife, and one of his daughters-in-law and some other relatives.

I entered to see Shaykh partially sat up in bed. I shook his frail hand and desperately wanted to kiss it and him, but I feared that he would not like it, due to what had reached me from some of the brothers regarding his humility. The Shaykh looked very weak and could hardly speak but he made a strong effort to welcome us.

I gave the Shaykh salaams, which he returned, and then I said, “Shaykh, may Allaah preserve you. I love you for the sake of Allaah.”

He said, pointing to the sky, “May the One for whose sake you have loved me, love you.”

I said, “Shaykh I have come from Britain.”

He said, “Do you have Salafees there?”

I said, “Yes Shaykh there are many, Alhamdulillah.”

He said, “Do you have ulemaa [Scholars] there?”

I said, “No Shaykh, there are no ulemaa but we have brothers from Madeenah university who have translated many books and tapes. And we have links with Shaykh Rabee’ [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Muqbil [d. 1422 H rahimahullaah] and some students of knowledge visit us from Saudi, Kuwait and Jordan, and they give us duroos.”

He said, “When will you make hijrah [migration to the Muslim land]?”

I said, “As soon as I can, Shaykh.”

He said, “Make hijrah to the land of the Muslims!”

I said, “Yes Shaykh, I intend to go to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

He said, “May Allaah reward you.”

I replied, “And may He reward you.”

With that, I gave the Shaykh salaam as his medicines were brought, and we left, grateful to Allaah for granting us such a blessing. Three months later the tragic news of the Shaykhs’ death reached us in England.

O Allaah have mercy on him, elevate his name up until the Last Day, give him peace and comfort in his grave, grant us love of him, and give us strength to hate whoever hates him, and make his efforts beneficial for him on that Day : The Day on which neither wealth nor offspring will be of any benefit, except the one who comes with a sound heart. Ash-Shu’araa : 88,89

And those who came after them say : “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and do not put any hatred in our hearts against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.” al-Hashr : 10

And in this are many lessons :

  • 1) Amongst them the great humility, warmth and kindness of the Shaykh towards us.
  • 2) Also the concern the Shaykh had for Salafee’s around the world and his asking about them.
  • 3) His concern for the Salafee’s to be linked to ulemaa.
  • 4)  Amongst them his strong advice to make hijrah to the lands of the Muslims.
  • 5) Also the extent of his mercy and care, whereby he made duaa for us many times.

And all of this despite the severity of his condition at that time. And I am sure there are many more.

And we live in a time where the scholars are few and ignorance is widespread, so it is in our interests to travel to the Imaams of the Sunnah who are still alive today, the likes of Shaykh Rabee[hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Ahmad [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Zayd [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Saaleh al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Ubayd [hafidhahullaah]and other than them, may Allaah preserve them all. [aameen]

Contemplate this matter before it’s too late, since travelling to visit the Imaams of the Sunnah was the way of our noble Salaf.

It Is Not A Proof That So And So Is Salafee Simply Because He Studied With A Salafee Shaykh

It Is Not A Proof That So And So Is Salafee Simply Because He Studied With A Salafee Shaykh
Shaykh Ahmad Baazmool (hafidhahullaah)

Be mindful: Some people use as a proof (the fact that) so and so from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen or from the students of Shaykh Ibn Baaz, that so and so (this person) is Salafee. No. This is not a distinguishing sign according to the Salafees. It is only the Minhaj, manners, and attestation.

Due to this, frequently we get the question: “A man came to us claiming that is was from the students of Shaykh Muqbil; from the students of Shaykh Rabee’; from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen.” Is this sufficient? The answer is no. Not until he is attested to. Hence, he may be, and this is something well-known, he may be from the present day opposers. Rather, perhaps some of them are Takfeeree; some of them are perhaps Takfeeree, even if he ascribes to having studied under Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen. Due to that, it is not to be used as a proof that so and so is similar to him. Clear? This is a benefit, so pay attention to it.

Due to this, when ‘Alee Al-Halabee comes to us and says: “I am from the students of Al-Albaanee.” That’s it, he is ruled to enter directly into Jannah?! He is ruled to have knowledge absolutely?! No, this does not suffice you; not until you walk and traverse upon the methodology of the Salaf upon which Al-Albaanee traversed, may Allaah have mercy upon him. If you oppose it then you are not from him, even if you clung to him from the time he began his studies up until the time he died, this would not suffice you. For the scholars free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). They free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). For this reason, this is of no benefit. So pay attention to this.

Whoever speaks ill of the (righteous) scholars, Allaah will give death to that person’s heart before He will give death to that person

October 19, 2012 Leave a comment

Imam Ahmad: Whoever speaks ill of the (righteous) scholars, Allaah will give death to that person’s heart before He will give death to that person

Student of knowledge Abu Uwais read from the work of Shaykh Sultan ibn ‘Abdur-Rahman Al-’Eid (rahimahumullaah), and from that beneficial lesson were the following statements:

Hafidh Ibn As-Saakir (rahimahullaah) said:

The flesh of the scholar is poison…and Allaah (exposing) removing the cover from the one who belittles the scholar, this is well known. And talking about them in a manner in which they are innocent is a tremendous (horrendous) affair. And to eat of their honor with lies is a matter that is shameful. It is known that Allaah causes the heart (of the one who does this) to die before their body dies.

And they only harm themselves, and they acquire humiliation, because Truly, Allaah defends those who believe. (Al-Hajj, ayah 38) And Allaah will not allow any good to come from the actions of the evil doers.

Those who find fault with the scholars of Tawheed – the scholars of the Sunnah – are the people of plotting and deceit. If they are not able to say directly (out loud) what they want to say, they will say it indirectly. So pay attention to this, ya ‘ibadullaah, so you will not be deceived.

Imam Ibn Mubarak (rahimahullaah) said:

He who belittles the scholars, he will lose his hereafter.

Imam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) said:

The flesh of the scholars is poisonous (to eat [by slandering]).

Meeting the Scholars on Hajj: A Discussion between Shaykh Fawzan and Shaykh Abdur Razzaq Al Badr

October 14, 2012 Leave a comment

From the Benefits of Hajj: Meeting the Scholars
Shaykh Abdur Razzaq Al Badr speaks with Shaykh Fawzan

Host: We have the Noble Scholar Doctor Shaykh Abdul Razzaq Abdul Al Muhsin Al Badr with us on the line; he is in Medina the city of the Prophet. Please proceed Shaykh Abdul Razzaq.

Shaykh Abdul Razzaq: As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatuAllahi wa barakatahu

Shaykh Fawzan and the host: wa alaikum salaam wa rahmatuAllahi wa barakatahu

Shaykh Abdul Razzaq: Hayaak Allah Shaykh Salih.

Shaykh Fawzan: How are you?

Shaykh Abdul Razzaq: May Allah preserve you, may Allah bless you.

Shaykh Fawzan: How is your father?

Shaykh Abdul Razzaq: My father is good and he gives you the greetings of Salaam.

Shaykh Fawzan: May Allah give us all Salaam.

Shaykh Abdul Razzaq: Hayaak Allahu

Shaykh Fawzan: May Allah bless you

Shaykh Abdul Razzaq: In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful. All praises belong to Allah the Lord of all that exist, and may the prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his Family and his Companions, all together. As to what follows:

From that which known; is that Hajj is tremendous obligation and a noble opportunity to meet with the people of knowledge and to benefit from them. I read in Siyar A’lam Al-Nubala in the biography of Abu Jafar Muhammad bin Ali Al Baqir he said: Verily my desire to meet Amr bin Dinaar increases my Hajj because surely he loves us and he benefits us. And I read some notes also by Al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy upon him, he said there was a large contingent of students of hadith who would embark upon Hajj their motivation being meeting Sufyan ibn Uyaanah and other than him from the Imaam of the Scholars. Thus this is a noble opportunity while we are headed towards pilgrimage at the House of Allah the Haram. If we could have a brief look from our Shaykh, while we are now as the brother know at the end of this program, at the importance of honoring the people of knowledge, connecting with them, taking from them, and not proceeding them, and being diligent upon taking religious verdicts from qualified among them. I ask Allah the Exalted to bring about benefit through his knowledge and to make him firm upon his efforts and to be kind to him. Verily He answers the supplications. As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu.

Shaykh Fawzan: wa alaikum salaam wa rahmatuAllahi wa barakatahu.

That which you pointed out, that Hajj is an opportunity to meet the people of knowledge, yes this is correct. It is an opportunity to meet the people of knowledge from the East of the earth to the West of it. And this is from the benefits of Hajj. As Allah the Exalted said:

{28} لِيَشْهَدُوا مَنَافِعَ لَهُمْ

That they may witness the benefits (provided) for them. (Soorah Al Hajj 22:28)

Thus from the greatest benefits of Hajj is meeting the Scholars, and benefiting from their knowledge and their virtue, their love, and connecting with them. One of them could be in the East and one of them in the West and the people yearn to see them, so he comes to Hajj and they come to Hajj and thus they gather together. Therefore this is from the greatest benefits of Hajj, meeting with the people of knowledge, and the people of virtue, and benefiting from them, and renewing the love between the hearts. This is from the benefits of the great Hajj. Acquaintance between the pilgrims; between the brothers from the East and the West of the earth and benefiting from each other. Even the Scholars benefit from each other, by the reminders and the lessons, and presenting the problems between them. Not to mention the common people those who are in need of asking questions to the people of knowledge. At any rate this Hajj is a great opportunity. And this is from the divine wisdom in Hajj, there occurs the meeting between the Muslims from the East and the West despite their different colors, and languages, and understanding, and knowledge. Thus this one will benefit from that one.

Some Benefits from the Lessons of Sheikh ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abdul ‘Azeez al ‘Aqeel

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

و الصلاة و السلام على اشرف الانبياء و المرسلين و على آله و صحبه و سلم تسليما كثيرا

Recently our beloved Sheikh (‘Abdullah bin ‘Abdul ‘Azeez al ‘Aqeel) returned to his Lord. When this tremendous trial occurred, I promised my beloved brothers in Islam that I would try to inform them of some of the benefits that I received while seeking knowledge from the Sheikh for the time that I had spent with him. But due to life’s many distractions and commitments, I was not able to deliver what I intended in adequate time. By the permission of Allah, at this time, I would like to mention some of those benefits so that my brothers and sisters in Islam can take a greater look at the life of this scholar of Islam, in order that we may reflect upon our own lives and shortcomings and try our best to correct them. I ask Allah to bless our beloved Sheikh, and I ask Him to grant him a high abode in Jennah.[1]

A brief mention of the Sheikh’s style of teaching:

Sheikh ‘Abdullah had retired from his position as a High Judge in Saudi Arabia many years ago. This meant that he had ample time to study, research, teach and give da’wah. Sheikh ‘Abdullah’s lessons where unique in a since that each individual student was allowed to have his own face to face lesson with the Sheikh, reading from his chosen book. A specific detail of how the lessons were performed is as follows:

Fajr: Sheikh ‘Abdullah would perform fajr in congregation in the masjid across from his home. After prayer, he would sit in the masjid for a short spell of time performing his morning adhkar (supplications). Read more…
