The Condition of the Salaf in Ramadhaan – Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

[Click here to Watch Video with English Subtitles]

Question:

I have some questions; the first question: what was the state of the Salaf As-Saalih, may Allaah have mercy upon them and be pleased with them, in anticipation of this great month? How was their guidance? How was their character and their conduct? The second matter, O eminent Shaykh, how does the Muslim prepare to take advantage of these nights and days which he is now living in; preparation by way of knowledge, by knowing the rulings of fasting and knowing the nullifiers of the fast and its rulings? Some of the people are heedless of these things so they do not understand the affair of fasting and they also do not have the obligatory understanding of the affair of the fast, has the Shaykh noticed this matter? May Allaah reward you.

Answer:

In the name of Allaah the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. Wa Alaykum As-Salaam wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh; may Allaah bless you. Regarding that which you have drawn attention to, from these two great matters; the first question is regarding the condition of the Salaf in the month of Ramadhaan. The condition of the Salaf, as it is recorded in the narrated books with chains of narrations from the trustworthy people (narrating) from them is that they would ask Allaah the Mighty and Majestic to make them reach Ramadhaan before it entered; they would ask Allaah to make them reach the month of Ramadhaan due to what they knew that it contained from abundant good and general benefit. Then, when Ramadhaan entered, they would ask Allaah to aid them upon righteous actions therein. The when Ramadhaan ended they would ask Allaah to accept it from them. As Allaah the Mighty and Majestic says:

وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَ ٦٠ أُولَئِكَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَابِقُونَ ٦١

“And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salât (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on].”(Al-Mu’minun 23:60-61)

They would strive hard in doing actions, then worry would afflict them, after the action, as to whether their action was accepted or not. That was due to their knowledge of the greatness of Allaah and their knowledge that Allaah does not accept except that (action) which is done purely for His face and correctly in accordance with the Sunnah of His Messenger from actions. So they would not purify themselves, and they would fear that their actions would be rendered null. So (worry) that they (the action) will be accepted was weightier with them than (even) the performance of them. This is because Allaah the Mighty and Majestic says:

إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ

“Verily, Allaah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious).” (Al-Ma’idah 5:27)

So they would devote their time within this month, as we have previously mentioned, to worship and would minimize actions of the Dunyaa. They would spend their time sitting in the houses of Allaah the Mighty and Majestic and they would say: We are safeguarding our fast and we will not backbite anyone. They would read the Mus-hafs and study the Book of Allaah the Mighty and Majestic. They would safeguard its time from squandering. They were not heedless or negligent as many of the people are today. Rather, they would preserve its time; the night, by standing (in prayer) and the day by fasting, recitation of the Qur’aan, the remembrance of Allaah, and righteous actions. They were not negligent therein of (even) a minute or a second, except that they would put forth therein righteous actions. This is the first question.

Advices regarding Manhaj to the Beginners in Salafiyyah – Shaykh Abu ‘Umar Usaamah al-’Utaybee

What ash-Shaykh al-Albaanee said about himself after he became 84yrs old!

December 5, 2012 Leave a comment

What was said by the Shaykh, al-Allaamah al-Albaanee (may Allaah have mercy on him) regarding himself after he became eighty four years old.

In Saheeh Mawaarid al-Dhamaan (2087) – The hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said, “The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) said,“The lifespan of (the people from) my ummah is between sixty to seventy years and few will go beyond that.”  Ibn ‘Arafah said, “And I am from those few.”

So the Shaykh (may Allaah have mercy on him) commented by saying:

“I say: I am also from amongst those few, since I have passed eighty four. I ask the Lord, the One free from all imperfections and the Most High, to make me amongst those whose life span is prolonged and their actions are beautified.

But even then, sometimes I nearly wish for death due to what has afflicted the Muslims from deviations in their deen, and the humiliation that has befallen them from the lowest of mankind. But Allaah forbid, and the hadeeth of Anas is before me. So it is not suitable for me to say anything except that which my Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) has ordered me with, “O Allaah keep me alive as long as life is good for me and take my life if that is good for me.”

And I supplicate with that which my Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) has taught me, “O Allaah provide us with the provision of our hearing, and our sight, and our strength as long as we are alive and make it a legacy from us.”

And indeed the One free from all imperfections has favoured me and responded by providing me with all of that. So I am able to research, authenticate, and write with the strength that very few have, and I pray the involuntary prayers standing, and I drive my car by myself covering vast distances, and at high speeds about which some of those who are close to me have advised me to reduce, but I have an explanation for that which is known to some of them!

I say this from the point, “And proclaim the bounty of your Lord.” (ad-Duhaa:11)

Hoping from my Lord, the One free from all imperfections and the Most High, that He increases His favours upon me, and makes all of that a legacy from me, and that He takes my life away while I am a Muslim, upon the Sunnah, for which I have dedicated my life in calling to and writing for. And that He unites me with the martyrs and the righteous, and they are the best companions, indeed He is the All-Hearing, the One who responds.

May Allaah have mercy on the Shaykh and grant him Firdaws.

Beautiful Yet Sad Story…

..”Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful. 59:10

All praise is for Allaah, Lord of all the Worlds, who ordered us to follow His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and to call to His Way, and may Allaah send praises and blessings of peace upon our Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and upon his family, his Companions, and those who truly follow them until the Day of Judgment.

Beautiful Yet Sad Story…

In 1999 Allaah favoured me [Abul Irbaad] and my family with the opportunity to visit the Imaam of Hadeeth, Naasir us-Sunnah was-Salafiyyah, the Allaamah Abu Abdir-Rahmaan Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen al-Albaanee [d. 1420 H rahimahullaah]while he was in hospital in the Shamaysee district, Jordan.

We went early in the afternoon to the hospital and asked if they had a patient by the name of Shaykh Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen al-Albaanee, they looked on a whiteboard full of patients and sure enough there was a Muhammad Naasir ud-Deen on the list in Room 332 (or so, I can’t remember exactly).

We made our way up in the elevator and found the room, but we were informed the Shaykh was sleeping. The Shaykhs’ grandson allowed me to enter to see the Shaykh very quickly. In front of me lay a handsome white man, with little hair and a full white beard. His beautiful arms were stained with blue bruises from the injections he had been receiving. Although I left quickly, I was determined to return.

Later that day I returned to find the Shaykh had woken up, but one of his grandsons tried to prevent me from entering the room saying that it was time for his medicines. I told him that I had travelled all the way from Britain only to see the Shaykh and give him salaam, so how could he refuse me entry.

My wife went into another room where she met Umm Fadl, the Shaykhs’ wife, and one of his daughters-in-law and some other relatives.

I entered to see Shaykh partially sat up in bed. I shook his frail hand and desperately wanted to kiss it and him, but I feared that he would not like it, due to what had reached me from some of the brothers regarding his humility. The Shaykh looked very weak and could hardly speak but he made a strong effort to welcome us.

I gave the Shaykh salaams, which he returned, and then I said, “Shaykh, may Allaah preserve you. I love you for the sake of Allaah.”

He said, pointing to the sky, “May the One for whose sake you have loved me, love you.”

I said, “Shaykh I have come from Britain.”

He said, “Do you have Salafees there?”

I said, “Yes Shaykh there are many, Alhamdulillah.”

He said, “Do you have ulemaa [Scholars] there?”

I said, “No Shaykh, there are no ulemaa but we have brothers from Madeenah university who have translated many books and tapes. And we have links with Shaykh Rabee’ [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Muqbil [d. 1422 H rahimahullaah] and some students of knowledge visit us from Saudi, Kuwait and Jordan, and they give us duroos.”

He said, “When will you make hijrah [migration to the Muslim land]?”

I said, “As soon as I can, Shaykh.”

He said, “Make hijrah to the land of the Muslims!”

I said, “Yes Shaykh, I intend to go to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

He said, “May Allaah reward you.”

I replied, “And may He reward you.”

With that, I gave the Shaykh salaam as his medicines were brought, and we left, grateful to Allaah for granting us such a blessing. Three months later the tragic news of the Shaykhs’ death reached us in England.

O Allaah have mercy on him, elevate his name up until the Last Day, give him peace and comfort in his grave, grant us love of him, and give us strength to hate whoever hates him, and make his efforts beneficial for him on that Day : The Day on which neither wealth nor offspring will be of any benefit, except the one who comes with a sound heart. Ash-Shu’araa : 88,89

And those who came after them say : “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and do not put any hatred in our hearts against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.” al-Hashr : 10

And in this are many lessons :

  • 1) Amongst them the great humility, warmth and kindness of the Shaykh towards us.
  • 2) Also the concern the Shaykh had for Salafee’s around the world and his asking about them.
  • 3) His concern for the Salafee’s to be linked to ulemaa.
  • 4)  Amongst them his strong advice to make hijrah to the lands of the Muslims.
  • 5) Also the extent of his mercy and care, whereby he made duaa for us many times.

And all of this despite the severity of his condition at that time. And I am sure there are many more.

And we live in a time where the scholars are few and ignorance is widespread, so it is in our interests to travel to the Imaams of the Sunnah who are still alive today, the likes of Shaykh Rabee[hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Ahmad [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Zayd [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Saaleh al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Ubayd [hafidhahullaah]and other than them, may Allaah preserve them all. [aameen]

Contemplate this matter before it’s too late, since travelling to visit the Imaams of the Sunnah was the way of our noble Salaf.

It Is Not A Proof That So And So Is Salafee Simply Because He Studied With A Salafee Shaykh

November 12, 2012 Leave a comment

It Is Not A Proof That So And So Is Salafee Simply Because He Studied With A Salafee Shaykh
Shaykh Ahmad Baazmool (hafidhahullaah)

Be mindful: Some people use as a proof (the fact that) so and so from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen or from the students of Shaykh Ibn Baaz, that so and so (this person) is Salafee. No. This is not a distinguishing sign according to the Salafees. It is only the Minhaj, manners, and attestation.

Due to this, frequently we get the question: “A man came to us claiming that is was from the students of Shaykh Muqbil; from the students of Shaykh Rabee’; from the students of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen.” Is this sufficient? The answer is no. Not until he is attested to. Hence, he may be, and this is something well-known, he may be from the present day opposers. Rather, perhaps some of them are Takfeeree; some of them are perhaps Takfeeree, even if he ascribes to having studied under Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen. Due to that, it is not to be used as a proof that so and so is similar to him. Clear? This is a benefit, so pay attention to it.

Due to this, when ‘Alee Al-Halabee comes to us and says: “I am from the students of Al-Albaanee.” That’s it, he is ruled to enter directly into Jannah?! He is ruled to have knowledge absolutely?! No, this does not suffice you; not until you walk and traverse upon the methodology of the Salaf upon which Al-Albaanee traversed, may Allaah have mercy upon him. If you oppose it then you are not from him, even if you clung to him from the time he began his studies up until the time he died, this would not suffice you. For the scholars free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). They free themselves from those who oppose (the truth). For this reason, this is of no benefit. So pay attention to this.

[Must Watch] Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), Oh Salafees?!

Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), Oh Salafees?!

“Should we be scared while the Qur`an and Sunnah are with us? Shame on us!? We are Salafees! And we are scared to defend the truth while the people of falsehood encourage themselves in their defense of falsehood? There is no blessing from Allaah in this life for a fearful and chicken-hearted person – no blessing in this life!

This life isn’t just about a desire for drink and food! By the Lord of the Ka’bah!

Either I live as a Salafee with my head held high, defending the da’wah of Prophet Muhammad, salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, defending the narrations of the Salaf and defending the scholars of our time, the scholars of the Sunnah such as Al-Albaanee, Ibn Baaz, Ibnul-’Uthaimeen, Shaikh Al-Fawzaan, Shaikh al-Ghudayaan, Shaikh al-Luhaydaan, Shaikh Rabee’ and others amongst the scholars of Salafiyyah who have propogated this Da’wah, otherwise, no! There is no good in us!

There is no good in us! By the Lord of the Ka’bah!

I am amazed!

Why such relentlessness against the Da’wah Salafiyyah?!

Why such relentlessness against the Salafees?!

Why so much praise for the people of bid’ah?!

Why is all this happening?!

Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh you who affirm that Allaah is above His Throne?!

Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh you who affirm that Allaah is above?!

Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh you who affirm that there is neither benefit nor harm except from Allaah?!

Oh you who do not invoke for aid nor in distress except Allaah (alone)!

(Oh you) who considers the prohibition of amulets and that we must swear by Allaah alone, where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy)?!

When you are seeing your Imams – those who call to the same Da’wah as yours – being blamed and criticized, while those who praise the deniers of the Istiwaa` – and claim that Allaah is ‘everywhere’ - have become Imams?

Where is your Gheera (Honorable Jealousy), oh my brother?!

Is that where we are?! Have we dropped to this point?!

The one who clings to this Religion becomes stronger, while the one who abandons it (becomes) weak! This Religion is a Paradise; the one who follows its path will succeed, but the one who abandons it will be lost.

He is The Lord, The Noble, free from any imperfection and Exalted is He! The one who sticks to His commands, his strength will be tenfold and he will become powerful by the power of Allaah and His favour.

Otherwise, he has no good in this life.

Nowadays, our scholars get accused of many things, our mashayikh get accused of many crimes, and it is the modern-day Khawaarij, the modern-day Mu’tazila, and the modern-day Ash’aria who have become the Imams?!

Have they become heroic combatants and brave men?! [No!]

But they just want to kill you, oh Salafiyyoon. They want you to quit your Salafiyyah!

But remain steadfast upon it! You have the Adila (proofs) with you; don’t be deceived by their words!

Imam al-Awaza’ee said:

‘Adhere to the narrations (aathar) of the Salaf (the Prophet and Sahaaba), even if the people were to abandon you. And beware of the opinions of people, no matter how much they beautify it with speech.’”

Tips for Remaining Firm Upon the Manhaj – Umar Bryant (rahimahullaah)

September 10, 2012 Leave a comment

The Path to Salafiyyah – Part I
Tips for Remaining Firm Upon the Manhaj
[1]
Compiled by Umar Bryant {May Allah have mercy upon him}

Verily, all praise is due to Allaah. We praise Him, we seek His assistance and we ask Him for His forgiveness. And we seek refuge in Allaah from the evils of our selves and the evils of our actions. Whomsoever Allaah guides, there is no one that can lead him astray. And whomsoever is led astray, there is no guide for him. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship in truth except Allaah. He stands alone and without any partners. And I bear witness that Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is His slave and Messenger.

O you who believe! Fear Allaah as He ought to be feared and do not die except while you are Muslims.[2]

O you who believe! Fear your Lord who created you from a single person (Aadam), and from him, He created his wife, and from them He created many men and women. Fear Allaah through whom you demand your mutual rights and (do not cut off the relations of) the wombs. Surely, Allaah is ever an All Watcher over you.[3]

O you who believe! Fear Allaah and be truthful and precise in your speech. He will rectify your deeds for you and forgive you of your sins. And whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger, then he has achieved a great success.”[4]

To Proceed:

The following are aids in keeping the Salafee firm upon this noble manhaj.

We ask  Allaah to grant us and you success!

  1. Thank and praise Allaah for this great gift of being guided to pure Islaam.  Indeed it is a great blessing in which Allaah grants to whom He wills from his servants, hence, it is befitting that you turn to The Most Merciful with the utmost gratitude and thanks.
  1. Constantly ask Allaah for success, guidance, and firmness upon the path for indeed you being guided to it does not guarantee you will remain upon it.
  1. Seek assistance with Allaah, humble yourself before Him and call upon Him with sincerity and humility as if you are in need of being guided to the straight path.  Ask Him to make you firm upon it.  From the great  supplications in this regard is one of the opening du’a of the prayer.

Oh Allaah, Lord of Jibra’eel, Mika’eel, and Israfeel, Creator of the heavens and the earth, knower of the seen and unseen.  You are the arbitrator between your slaves in that which they have disputed.  Guide me to the truth by your leave in that which has been differed upon from the truth for verily You guide whom you will to a straight path

[ From AbdurRahman.Org : Adding transliteration of above Du'a

Allâhumma, rabba Jibrâ'îla, wa Mîkâ'îla, wa Isrâfîla ! Fâtira s-samâwâti wa-l-ardi, âlima l-ghaybi wa sh-shahâdati, anta tahkumu bayna ibâdika fîmâ kânû fîhi yakhtalifûna. Ihdinî li-mâ khtulifa fîhi mina-l-haqqi bi-idhnika. Innaka tahdî man tashâ'u ilâ sirâtîn mustaqîm. ]

After this, seek out the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).  Guard it, reflect upon it, and stick firm to it.

  1. Connect yourself with the ‘Ulamaa known for their upright manhaj and creed.  Those who speak the truth and are just with it.  Those who are known by those far from him and close to him for being firm upon the Salafee manhaj. Stick firm to their books and tapes.  Be adamant about attending their sittings and lectures.  Be adamant about calling them each time a matter arises or you have a question.
  1. Leave alone the frauds and self proclaimed “scholars” and “du’aat”, those known for being in opposition to the Salafee manhaj.  The manhaj is free of them and their da’wah.  They are known for creating fitnah, getting the people excited, their strong desire to be seen as people of knowledge, while associating with the people of innovation.
  1. Be steadfast in seeking knowledge.  Start by learning the correct creed and becoming well versed in it.  Get a hold of the books of Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyah and his student Ibn Qayyim, likewise the books of the great reviver Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhaab – may Allaah have mercy upon them all.  Be steadfast in reading these books with a known Salafee Shaykh.  Likewise be steadfast in studying the books of the Salaf which clarify their creed and manhaj as it relates to those who oppose the manhaj of the Salaf.  Books such as As-Sunnah by Ibn Abee Aasim, As-Sunnah by Khalaal, As-Sunnah by Abdullaah ibn Ahmed, Sharhus Sunnah by Barbahaaree, Al-‘Itisaam by Imaam Ash-Shaatibee, Al-Ibaanah of Ibn Battah Al-Ukbari, Sharh Usool ‘Itiqaad Ahlis Sunnah wal Jama’ah of Laalikaa’I – may Allaah have mercy upon all of them.[5]
  1. Free yourself of everything that is related to Hizbiyyah and the Hizbees, such as their books, their tapes, their nasheeds, and their shows in which no permission from Allaah for them has been granted.
  1. Do not allow your heart to be a sponge sucking up shubuhaat (doubts) and accepting them.
  1. It is sufficient for you in this life to stick with the Salafee ‘Ulamaa, keep the ties between your parents, and aid your family.  It is also sufficient for you to be around good Salafee companions.  If you want to call to Allaah then sufficient for you are the books and tapes of the known Salafee scholars.  Beware of proceeding before your maturity.  Prepare for yourself a Salafee library consisting of the books of Salafee tafseer, books of hadeeth, and books of aqeedah.  Stay far away from the books of “intellectual” thinkers such as the books of Sayyid Qutb his brother Muhammad and other then them from the known people who have deviated in their manhaj.
  1. Stay away from suspect individuals.  Those known to speak against leaders of the Muslims, those who claim to dispel evil and those who claim to be aiding “the jihad”.  The majority of these individuals and their allegation of enjoining good, is nothing more than hizbiyyah and not upon the Sharee’ah.  Their Jihaad is that of the Haroorees[6] and not that of the Sunnee.

So for example, you will see some of them making takfeer upon the Raafidhah and saying “The ruler should stand up and remove these people from the land or he should annihilate them”  We shall say to him “What is your opinion of the one who insults the companions such as Sayyid Qutb?  If you see him pause, hesitate, or stammer in his speech then know his statement about the Raafidhah was only a political hizbee one.

If you see one say “The muslims are being slaughtered while the muslim governments do nothing”  We shall ask him, “What have you done to aid the muslims by way of correcting his aqeedah and manhaj?  If he frowns and continues upon such speech then know his statement was a political and hizbee one.

  1. Do not enter into debates with the Hizbees.  Ask Allaah to guide them.  Beware of visiting and sitting in the gatherings of the Hizbees as you know what they are upon from misguidance.

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) informs us in a hadeeth narrated on the authority of Aboo Hurayrah (radi Allaahu ‘anhu);

There shall be people in the latter part of my Ummah who will speak to you concerning things you nor your fathers have heard so beware of them[7]

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) also informed us that when one hears of the Dajjaal then we are to stay far away from him.

Ibn Abbass said:

Do no sit with the people of desires for verily in their sitting is a sickness for the heart

  1. There are many important books, publications, and tapes in which the Hizbees hide because in them their figureheads are exposed.  Try to attain them from the known Salafee brothers or from known Salafee organizations[8].
  1. Stay away from politics[9] and busy yourself with seeking knowledge[10]
  1. Be open in your affiliation to the blessed Salafee manhaj.  Do not be ashamed to call yourself SALAFEE.  And if one says your are praising yourself.  Tell him this is from informing the people of your affiliation and not from praising oneself and furthermore if this were the case, then everyone who refers to himself as Muslim or Sunnee is also praising himself.Memorize the statement of Shaykhul Islaam Ibnu Taymiyyah:

There is no criticism for the one who proclaims the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf, who attaches himself to it and refers to it. Rather, it is obligatory to accept that from him by unanimous agreement (Ittifaaq) because the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf is nothing but the Truth (Haqq).[11]

  1. Beware of falling into tamyee’ [12] and associating with its people!   Beware of the many tricks and hidden attacks of those who have been afflicted with this sickness.  From their tricky statements are:

“Those brothers are harsh”
“Their focus is only refuting the people”
“They blindly follow “their” scholars (Shaykh Rabee)”

  1. Beware! Beware of looking into the books of the people of innovation and those who defend and protect the people of innovation and listening to their tapes for verily within them is a deadly poison.

Ibnu Quddamah (rahimahullaah) said:

“And from the Sunnah is to boycott the people of innovation, exposing them, leaving off arguing and debating with them in the religion, leaving off looking into the books of the innovators, and lending ones ear to their speech.   And every newly invented matter in the religion is an innovation”

And if you want to study with anyone then be sure of his methodology.  Return his affair to the scholars of Jarh and Ta’deel from our Salafee Mashaayikh.  If they caution you from him then flee from this leper as if you were fleeing from a lion.

When you are cautioned from an individual by the scholars and those known for their firmness in this area then do not fall into a common misconception amongst many and that is the statement “I will wait until I see this matter with my own eyes” or “I have not seen what they say about him” and other similar statements signifying ones ignorance of this manhaj.  Do not be bold and arrogant.

  1. Call the common people (from the Muslims) to the methodology of the Salaf with insight and good exhortations.  You must use kindness and wisdom with them as the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Verily kindness is not added to an affair except that it beautifies it and it is not taken from an affair except that it disgraces it”[13]
  1. Be humble in the face of sincere advice.  Take the advice of our blessed elders in knowledge and virtue when they advise you.
  1. Be abundantly aware of those who oppose the manhaj of the Salaf and know that they have characteristics that you must know.

And all praise is due to Allaah and may peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.

[11] Majmoo al-Fataawaa 4:149

[12] Tamyee’ literally means to water down or liquefy.  As it relates to manhaj, then it is the act of watering down and changing firmly established principles in an effort to defend the people of desire

With regard to tamyee’ Shaykh Rabee’ was asked:

Questioner:

Our Shaykh (hafidhakumullaah), we hear a lot from your excellence the usage [of the term] “at-tamayyu`”, we hope (i.e. seek) an explanation of this usage from you, and what is your view regarding the one who rejects this [terminological] usage.

Shaykh Rabee` bin Haadee:

This is not [terminological] usage, this is a temporary word (i.e. a passing remark upon a particular trait) that is said, but what is desired by it is a [group of] peoples who came to the `usool of Islaam, melting them, softening them, and belittling their importance, rather, they wage war against them , may Allaah bless you.

And they describe – meaning [describe] the Salafee manhaj, and standing (firmly) in the face of Ahl ul-Bida`, and defending the Sunnah – they describe it as shiddah (harshness), they describe that as shiddah, and they describe that as ghuluww (extremism), and they lied and fabricated a lie.

By Allaah, besides whom there is none worthy of worship (in truth),  shiddah (harshness, severity) is not found amongst the masaakeen Salafees now. And certainly, no matter how harsh the Salafees are in facing and standing against the falsehood, and innovations, they do not reach one hundredth of what the Salaf were upon of harshness against Ahl ul-Bida` to the degree that they (the Salaf) used to kill them, and expel them (from the land), and boycott them, and beat them, and humiliate them. [And as for us] the Salafees, they have nothing [of what was with the Salaf of harshness], masaakeen.”
