Amazing Story | Story of a Bird and Sufyān ath-Thawrī [rahimahullaah]

Imām al-Dhahabī mentions the following story in his entry for Sufyān ath-Thawrī:

”ʻAlī b. ʻAbd al-ʻAzīz said, Arim narrated to us saying, I went to Abū Manṣūr to visit him, he said to me,

‘Sufyān resided in this house, and there was here a nightingale belonging to my son. He (Sufyān) said, ‘Why is this locked up (in a cage)? It should be freed.’ I said, ‘It belongs to my son, and he gives it to you as a gift.’ Sufyān said, ‘No, I will give him a dinar for it.’ He said, ‘He then took it and freed it, and it would go out and return in the evening, and would be at the far end of the house. When Sufyān died, it followed his funeral procession and was flying over his grave. After this on some nights it would go to his grave, and sometimes would spend the night there, and sometimes would return back home. They then found it dead by his grave and it was buried alongside Sufyān.”’

(Inspirational) The Advice of Asmaa bint Abu Bakr (radiallaahu anha) to her son Abdullah Ibn Zubair (radhi Allaahu anhu)

December 5, 2012 Leave a comment

From the tape “The life of Abdullah Ibn Zubair-By Shaikh Muhammed Anjaree”.

Below are the words of advise Asmaa bint Abu Bakr radiallaahu anha gave to her son at the age of over 100 years and he himself was over 60 years of age defending this deen and Allah (subhanna wa ta ala) had granted them the preservation of their faculties and vigour! May Allah Have Mercy upon them.Ameen.

**************************

The last stage of Abdullah Ibn Zubair life, and that was when he fought against Hajjaj, which was in the year beginning 70 A.H. Mekkah at that time was surrounded by Hajjajs’ Army and they had laid siege to Mekkah for approximately one and a half years……..

When he entered into Mekkah he (Hajjaj) sent a letter to Abdullah Ibn Zubair saying you have three choices;

  1. You can be taken and chained to Abdul Malik who was then the Khalifah of Damascus.
  2. Or leave by yourself and give up all the lands that he had overcome like Egypt, Iraq, Yemen /leave the Khalifa.
  3. Or continue fighting.

So he had these three chooses from Hajjaj. He then went to his mother (Asma bint Abu Bakr radiallaahu anha) who was still alive for advice and she was over a hundred years. So Abdullah Ibn Zubair said, to his mother,

“So the people have left me by myself, even my own son, no-one is with me except a handful of people all I have is an hour of patience and then death and if I were to do what the people want me to do then I will be free.”

So then Asmaa (radiallaahu anha) replied to her son, she said,

“You know better in your own self that if you are upon the truth and you are calling towards the truth go forth for people more honourable than you were killed and have been killed and if you are not upon the truth, then what an evil son you are, you have destroyed yourself and those who are with you. If you say what you say, that if you are upon the truth and you will be killed at the hands of others then you will not truly be free, for this is not the statement of someone who is free”.

Then she said to her son, this is the statement of the mother to her son,

“how long will you live in this world, death is more beloved to me than this state you are on/ this state of weakness.”

Then this conversation between Abdullah Ibn Zubair and his mother continued.

Then he said to his mother after she had told him to go forth and fight.

He said, “I am afraid I will be mutilated by the people of Sham,I am afraid that they will cut up my body after they have killed me”

So she said to her son,”after someone has died it won’t make any difference what they do to you if you have been killed.”

Abdullah Ibn Zubair then said to his mother,”I did not come to you except to increase myself in knowledge.” The shaikh wanted to point out, look at the manners which he presented towards his mother, this was the manners of the Salaf how they would behave towards their parents.

He said to her, “I did not come to you except to increase me in knowledge, look and pay attention to this day for verily I am a dead man, your son never drank wine, nor was he fornicator, nor did he wrong any Muslim or Kaafir, nor was he unjust, I am not saying this to you to show off or show how pure I am but rather as an honour to you.”

So then  Abdullah Ibn Zubair  left by himself on his horse and he was killed by the Army of Hajjaj and when he was killed by the Army of Hajjaj all the Army said “Allah hu Akhbar” and Ibn Umer (radiallaahu anhu) heard this and he said,
” how strange is it that this man when he was born all of the Muslims said “Allah hu Akhbar” and now that he is killed everyone is also saying “Allah hu Akhbar”.

Then Hajjaj crucified him and said,” No one must put down his body except Asmaa (radiallaahu anha ), she must come to me and ask permission of me and only then will his body be put down”.

Asmaa (radiallahu anha.) refused to go and ask permission to put down her sons body and it was said to her,
“if you don’t go his body will remain like that.” So she said ” let it be then”.

Until eventually, Hajjaj came to her and said,

“what do you say about this matter ” and she said,

” Verily you have destroyed him you have ruined his life and with that you have ruined your hereafter.”

Beautiful Yet Sad Story…

..”Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful. 59:10

All praise is for Allaah, Lord of all the Worlds, who ordered us to follow His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and to call to His Way, and may Allaah send praises and blessings of peace upon our Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and upon his family, his Companions, and those who truly follow them until the Day of Judgment.

Beautiful Yet Sad Story…

In 1999 Allaah favoured me [Abul Irbaad] and my family with the opportunity to visit the Imaam of Hadeeth, Naasir us-Sunnah was-Salafiyyah, the Allaamah Abu Abdir-Rahmaan Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen al-Albaanee [d. 1420 H rahimahullaah]while he was in hospital in the Shamaysee district, Jordan.

We went early in the afternoon to the hospital and asked if they had a patient by the name of Shaykh Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen al-Albaanee, they looked on a whiteboard full of patients and sure enough there was a Muhammad Naasir ud-Deen on the list in Room 332 (or so, I can’t remember exactly).

We made our way up in the elevator and found the room, but we were informed the Shaykh was sleeping. The Shaykhs’ grandson allowed me to enter to see the Shaykh very quickly. In front of me lay a handsome white man, with little hair and a full white beard. His beautiful arms were stained with blue bruises from the injections he had been receiving. Although I left quickly, I was determined to return.

Later that day I returned to find the Shaykh had woken up, but one of his grandsons tried to prevent me from entering the room saying that it was time for his medicines. I told him that I had travelled all the way from Britain only to see the Shaykh and give him salaam, so how could he refuse me entry.

My wife went into another room where she met Umm Fadl, the Shaykhs’ wife, and one of his daughters-in-law and some other relatives.

I entered to see Shaykh partially sat up in bed. I shook his frail hand and desperately wanted to kiss it and him, but I feared that he would not like it, due to what had reached me from some of the brothers regarding his humility. The Shaykh looked very weak and could hardly speak but he made a strong effort to welcome us.

I gave the Shaykh salaams, which he returned, and then I said, “Shaykh, may Allaah preserve you. I love you for the sake of Allaah.”

He said, pointing to the sky, “May the One for whose sake you have loved me, love you.”

I said, “Shaykh I have come from Britain.”

He said, “Do you have Salafees there?”

I said, “Yes Shaykh there are many, Alhamdulillah.”

He said, “Do you have ulemaa [Scholars] there?”

I said, “No Shaykh, there are no ulemaa but we have brothers from Madeenah university who have translated many books and tapes. And we have links with Shaykh Rabee’ [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Muqbil [d. 1422 H rahimahullaah] and some students of knowledge visit us from Saudi, Kuwait and Jordan, and they give us duroos.”

He said, “When will you make hijrah [migration to the Muslim land]?”

I said, “As soon as I can, Shaykh.”

He said, “Make hijrah to the land of the Muslims!”

I said, “Yes Shaykh, I intend to go to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

He said, “May Allaah reward you.”

I replied, “And may He reward you.”

With that, I gave the Shaykh salaam as his medicines were brought, and we left, grateful to Allaah for granting us such a blessing. Three months later the tragic news of the Shaykhs’ death reached us in England.

O Allaah have mercy on him, elevate his name up until the Last Day, give him peace and comfort in his grave, grant us love of him, and give us strength to hate whoever hates him, and make his efforts beneficial for him on that Day : The Day on which neither wealth nor offspring will be of any benefit, except the one who comes with a sound heart. Ash-Shu’araa : 88,89

And those who came after them say : “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and do not put any hatred in our hearts against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.” al-Hashr : 10

And in this are many lessons :

  • 1) Amongst them the great humility, warmth and kindness of the Shaykh towards us.
  • 2) Also the concern the Shaykh had for Salafee’s around the world and his asking about them.
  • 3) His concern for the Salafee’s to be linked to ulemaa.
  • 4)  Amongst them his strong advice to make hijrah to the lands of the Muslims.
  • 5) Also the extent of his mercy and care, whereby he made duaa for us many times.

And all of this despite the severity of his condition at that time. And I am sure there are many more.

And we live in a time where the scholars are few and ignorance is widespread, so it is in our interests to travel to the Imaams of the Sunnah who are still alive today, the likes of Shaykh Rabee[hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Ahmad [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Zayd [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Saaleh al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah], Shaykh Ubayd [hafidhahullaah]and other than them, may Allaah preserve them all. [aameen]

Contemplate this matter before it’s too late, since travelling to visit the Imaams of the Sunnah was the way of our noble Salaf.

Did the lady from Banee Israa’eel get what she asked for…..(Paradise)?

Did the lady from Banee Israa’eel get what she asked for…..(Paradise)?

Shaykh Albanee in As-Saheehah (no. 313) :

Aboo Ya’laa reported in his ‘Musnad’ (3/441), and al-Haakim (2/404-405 and 571-572), through three chains from Yoonus ibn Abee Ishaaq: from Aboo Burdah: from Aboo Moosaa who said:

‘The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) came to a bedouin who treated him generously, so he said to him: ‘Come to us.’ So he came to him, Allaah’s Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said [and in one narration: Allaah's Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) stopped off  as a guest with a bedouin, and he treated him generously. So Allaah's Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said to him: 'We will remember this, so come to us.'
So later the bedouin came to him, and Allaah's Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

'Ask for whatever you need.' so he said: 'A she-camel with its saddle, and some goats which my wife can milk.'

So Allaah's Messenger said: 'Are you unable to be like the old woman of the Banoo Israa.eel?'

[So his Companions said: 'O Messenger of Allaah! And what does 'the old woman of the Banoo Israa.eel' refer to?'  He (Peace be upon him) said:

'When Moosaa left Egypt at night with the Banoo Israa.eel they lost their way. So he said: 'What is wrong?' So their learned men said:['We shall tell you.] When death came to Yoosuf he took a solemn agreement from us in Allaah’s Name that we would not depart from Egypt until we carried his body along with us.’ He said: ‘Then who knows the place of his grave?’ [They said: None of us knows where the grave of Yoosuf is, except for ] an old woman of the Banoo Israa.eel. So he sent for her, and she came to him.

He said: ‘Guide me to the grave of Yoosuf.’ She said: ['No, by Allaah! I will not do so] until you grant me my reward.’ He said: ‘And what reward do you want?’ She said: ‘That I should be with you in Paradise.’ So he disliked to grant her that, but Allaah revealed to him: ‘Grant her her due reward”. So she went with them to a pond: a place where water gathered, and she said: ‘Drain this water away.’ So they drained it. She said: ‘Dig, and extract the body of Yoosuf.’ So when they lifted it out and placed it upon the ground the path suddenly became bright like the light of day.’

The context is Aboo Ya’laa’s, and the (bracketed) additions along with the other narrations are al-Haakim’s, and he said; ‘Saheeh’ to the standard of the two Shaikhs, and Ahmad and Ibn Ma’een judged that Yoonus heard the hadeeth ‘There is no marriage except with a guardian’ from Aboo Burdah.’ And adh-Dhahabee agreed.

And I say: It is to the standard of Muslim alone, since al-Bukhaaree did not report any of Yoonus’s narrations in his ‘Saheeh’, but rather in his ‘Juz.ul-Qiraa’ah…..’

Prince Naif & His Stance Against the Khawarij; Makkah 1979, The Haram is Seized by Them

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله و على آله وصحبه ومن اتبع هداه
أما بعد:
One of the main episodes which took place during his position as the Minister of the Interior was the occupation of the Al-Masjid Al-Haraam, Makkah. This is what happened as translated in the Saudi Gazette from the daily newspaper, Al-Watan [1979]“No one can open the file on Juhaiman bin Saif Al-Otaibi and his group without mentioning the late Crown Prince Naif who was the interior minister at the time. When the group occupied the Grand Mosque, Prince Naif faced the challenge of liberating it. He insisted on overseeing the operation by himself without any outside help. When Juhaiman and Muhammad Al-Qahtani, who would later become his brother-in-law, joined hands, their collective ideologies began spreading poisonous ideas in small mosques in Madinah. In 1965, Juhaiman established a group called Al-Jamma’a Al-Salafiyya Al-Muhtasiba, which was an extension of the Ikhwan ideology. Soon Juhaiman took control of the group and diverted its tasks to political activities. As the group expanded, he recruited youth from all over the Kingdom. Prince Naif interfered at the time and called for the group’s activities to be supervised. As a result, Juhaiman isolated the group and himself from society. The Al-Watan newspaper carried the details of the operation in a report on Monday. In late 1978, Al-Qahtani told Juhaiman that he had had a dream in which he was the Mahdi, or redeemer of Islam, and said he wanted to liberate the Arabian peninsula and the entire world from wrongdoing, injustice and tyranny. On Nov. 20, 1979, 270 people from Juhaiman’s group entered the Grand Mosque under the pretext of attending the Fajr prayer. They were carrying several caskets with them and mosque guards were told they contained bodies. In reality, the caskets contained dozens of weapons that the group would later use to take over the mosque.

During the Fajr prayer, the group chained all of the mosque’s doors and placed two guards at each door. Several other militants stormed the microphone room and took control of the mosque’s loudspeakers. Sheikh Muhammad Al-Subayel, who was leading the prayer, said as soon as the prayer concluded, the group announced the appearance of the Mahdi. They said he had escaped from his enemies and was taking refuge inside the Grand Mosque. Juhaiman then introduced Al-Qahtani as “the awaited Mahdi and the redeemer of Islam.”

Juhaiman and his group then pledged allegiance to Al-Qahtani who asked the people to also do so while members of the group began firing gunshots in the air. The mosque’s guards, who are not armed, tried to resist them but were shot and killed. A group of worshippers managed to escape from the Grand Mosque but others who tried to reason with the group and told them they were wrong were also shot dead.

Prince Naif immediately ordered the Grand Mosque to be surrounded and told officers not to engage in any contact with the group until the authorities had a clearer picture. Security forces began moving inside the mosque complex and some of them managed to position themselves inside and waited for orders to attack. At the same time, Juhaiman’s group was trying to force all worshippers inside to pledge allegiance to the awaited Mahdi.

The then King Khaled met with Muslim scholars and briefed them on the situation. Scholars said a surrender should be negotiated with the group and if they refused, then they should be forcibly evacted even if it meant killing them.

Meanwhile, Prince Naif had arrived in Makkah to personally supervise the operation and plans to liberate the Grand Mosque.

People and residents around the Grand Mosque complex were asked to clear the area due the guns being fired by Juhaiman’s group from the mosque’s minarets. Saudi security forces managed to identify their positions and the type of weapons they were using. Groups from the National Guard were brought in along with the armed forces in preparation to storm the besieged mosque. King Khaled’s directives at that time were to give the group time to surrender and to ensure the safety of the innocent people stuck inside the mosque. Saudi forces used microphones to ask the group to surrender and release the hostages but they refused.

There were scattered clashes with the group and Saudi snipers were brought in to take out the snipers inside the mosque. The Saudi troops already positioned inside also began engaging Juhaiman’s group and forced them to release the hostages. Saudi troops forced the group to withdraw to the tunnels in the lower level beneath the mosque and they then took control of the roads leading to the tunnels.

Juhaiman and his group barricaded themselves in several rooms underneath the Grand Mosque.

After five days of being surrounded, dozens of members in the group surrendered to the authorities. After the news of Al-Qahtani’s death began to spread, many other members laid down their arms and surrendered. On Dec. 5, 1979, the Saudi Army and the National Guard laid out a plan to put an end to the siege. They started a final push and managed to isolate the group far away from the Ka’aba. Saudi forces then cut electricity and water to them. Some immediately surrendered while other continued to fight. The news about French, Jordanian and Egyptian forces participating in the operation to liberate the Grand Mosque was not true. At the time, Saudi Arabia received many offers of help but they were all declined. King Khaled addressed the country’s security forces and the National Guard and thanked them for liberating the Grand Mosque.

On Jan. 10, 1980, 63 people who carried out the attacks were executed in several different cities while Juhaiman was executed in Makkah. The nationalities of the people that were executed are as follows: 34 Saudis, 9 Egyptians, 3 Kuwaitis, 6 Yemenis, 1 Sudanese and 1 Iraqi. Prince Naif said at a press conference after the incident that 19 people went to jail and 23 women and children were sent to juvenile centers.

Prince Naif also announced that 12 Saudi officers and 115 soldiers died during the operation. In addition, 402 officers and 49 soldiers were injured. Prince Naif said 75 members of Juhaiman’s group were killed during the siege. Fifteen bodies belonging to the group were later found in the tunnels underneath the mosque.”

The Three Men and the Valley

The Three Men and the Valley [example of the munafiq]

It is reported that ‘Abdullâh b. Mas’ûd – Allâh be pleased with him – said:

The example of the believer, the unbeliever and the hypocrite is that of three people who arrived at a valley. One of them descended and passed through to the other side. One of them descended until he reached half way, when the third man on the edge of the valley called to him, “Woe to you, where are you going? You will die. Come back.” The man who made it to the other side called to him, “Come and be saved.” So [the man in the middle of the valley] kept looking back and forth at the two [on each side of the valley], when a flood came into the valley and drowned him. The man who passed through to the other side is the believer; the one who drowned is the munâfiq (hypocrite) –

[The Hypocrites] sway between this and that, neither [fully] with the believers nor with the unbelievers.

[The Hypocrites] sway between this and that, neither [fully] with the believers nor with the unbelievers. [Quran 4:143]

And the one who remained at the edge of the valley [not  able to escape the flood and pass] is the kâfir (unbeliever).

Ibn Abî Hâtim, Al-Tafsîr article 6144.

How Did Your Affair Begin, O Messenger of Allaah?

How Did Your Affair Begin, O Messenger of Allaah?
Translated by Aboo Talhah Daawood ibn Ronald Burbank

How Did Your Affair Begin, O Messenger of Allaah?

ad-Daarimee reported (1/8-9), and al-Haakim (2/616-617), and Ahmad (4/184) from `Utbah ibn Mas`ood as-Sulamee, and he was from the Companions of Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam), that he narrated that: A man said to Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam):  “How did your affair begin, O Messenger of Allaah?”

So he said:

<< I was being taken care of by a woman from Banoo Sa`d ibn Bakr. So I went off with a son of hers along with some of our goats, and we did not take any provision along with us. So I said: “O my brother, go and bring us some provision from our mother.” So my brother went off and I remained with the goats. Then two white beings that were flying came, being as if they were two eagles. Then one of them said to the other: “Is it him?” The other one replied; “Yes”. So they hastened to me, took hold of me, and threw me upon the ground on my back. Then they split open my chest and extracted two black clots from it, and one of them said to his companion: “Bring me ice-water”, and he washed my insides with it. Then he said: “Bring me snow-water”, and he washed my heart with it. Then he said: “Bring me tranquillity”. And he planted it in my heart. Then one of them said to his companion: “Sew it up”, so he sewed it up and sealed it with the seal of Prophethood. Then one of them said to the other: “Place him upon a scale, and place a thousand of his nation upon another scale.” >>

Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said :

<< “So I saw a thousand people above me and feared that some of them were going to fall upon me.” He said: “If his whole nation were weighed against him he would outweigh them.” Then they went off and left me. >>

Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

<< And I became very afraid, and I went back to my mother and informed her of what I had experienced. So I wished that I had been mistaken for someone else. She said: “I entrust you to Allaah’s protection”. So she prepared a camel of hers for riding, placed me upon the saddle, and rode behind me until we reached my (true) mother. Then she said: “I have fulfilled my trust and my responsibility, and she told her what had happened to me, and this did not alarm her. She said: “When he came out from me I saw light which shone and revealed the palaces of Shaam.”>>

-Shaikh al-Albaanee said in “as-Saheehah” (no.373):
“…..this chain of narration is “hasan”… and this hadeeth has many witnesses…”

Benefit: The Dunyaa is like a Prison…

Benefit: The Dunyaa is like a Prison…

It is mentioned that when al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr was the chief justice (of Egypt), one day he was passing through the market with a caravan, looking well groomed. So a Jew who was selling hot oil, looking very disheveled and dirty because of the oil, accosted him by grabbing the reins of his mule saying,

Yaa Shaykhul-Islaam, you claim that your prophet said that the dunyaa is a prison for the mu’min and a jannah for the kaafir; so what type of prison are you in and what type of jannah am I in?

He (Ibn Hajr) replied,

Regarding what Allaah has prepared for me in the hereafter from its bliss, then it is as if I am in prison, and with regards to what Allaah has prepared for you in the hereafter from its punishment, then it is as if you are in jannah.”

At which point the Jew became a Muslim.

(Faydhul-Qadeer: 3/546)

He Lost The Woman, and He Lost His Religion

Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah) narrated:

It is reported that in Egypt, there was a man who would maintain the mosques, making the call to prayer, etc. He was, by all outward means, an obedient person and devout worshipper.

One day, as he usually would, he ascended the minaret to make the call to prayer. At the base of the minaret, there was a Christian woman standing. He saw her, and was seduced by her looks. So, he descended the minaret, went to her, and entered her home. She said to him: “Who are you, and what do you want?”

He replied: “I want you.”

She said: “Why?”

He said: “You have enslaved my eyes, and you have captured my heart.”

She said: “I will never answer your desire in a doubtful or suspicious manner.”

He said: “Ok, so, I will marry you, then.”

She said: “You are a Muslim, and I am a Christian. My father will never allow me to marry you.”

He said: “So, I will become a Christian.”

She said: “If you wish to do so, go ahead.“

So, the man became a Christian in order to marry this woman, and lived with the woman’s family in her house. Later on that day, however, he was on the roof of the house. He fell from the roof and died without even having enjoyed his new bride. So, he lost the woman, and he lost his religion.”
