Guidelines on Children’s Clothes with Pictures and on Dolls

Question:

Here, one of the sisters asks: What is the ruling on clothing children with clothes which contains pictures of things which have souls if it is not possible to erase these pictures from them, because by erasing them (the pictures), the garment is spoiled?

So, the Sheikh replied:

Answer:

Without doubt, it has to be said, that for the likes of this question, the purchasing of the garment which is illustrated with pictures, has to have definitely already occurred by mistake or negligence from the father or mother who bought (it), because the fundamental principle is that it is not appropriate for the Muslims that they purchase clothes which have pictures on them. However, a person may be unaware, and he may be negligent, and they may forget…and he may forget and he may purchase a garment, (and) after he returns with it to his house it becomes clear to him that there is a full prohibited picture on it. So, in this situation also, this question (above) is not to be found. It is imperative that another introduction precede it (this question), and it is…the changing of the garment for another garment from the place where it was purchased from, (whereby this new garment) does not have on it a prohibited picture. So if… so if it was not possible for the father or the mother to change it (for another garment), then here in the third stage (of this situation) this question comes about.

So, I remind about these two introductions (which should be placed before the question) because the majority of the people are heedless when they proceed to the markets. They buy everyday necessities (which are made) from different materials, from them which are the likes of those things which are spread out (carpets, rugs, mats etc.) and blankets or what resembles that, those (things) which are predominantly illustrated with pictures and decorated. And they do not pay any attention to them at all (these materials which have pictures) and they buy them with the excuse that these materials are not respected (because they are sat on, slept on etc.) and are not hung up. So, we say: It is imperative upon the Muslims that they be those who are awake (and) not those who are asleep, and that they pay attention to the plot of the disbelievers, those who are invading them in the midst of their own house with diverse ways – and that which is from them (these ways) are these clothes which are illustrated with pictures. And it (this matter) is mentioned bit by bit, specifically if the people are in need of it. And in a manner more specific when they are made heedless through some of the erroneous guidelines, through some of the fataawa (religious edicts) which are not based upon authentic proof, like (the fataawa for) these dolls and children’s toys which cram up the markets and the mothers go and buy for the boys and girls many a thing from these amusements in the name of them (being) toys for children or toys for girls.

So, it is imperative that we remember something here, and it is that the toys (i.e. dolls) which are allowed to be used for the small children… rather I say for girls only and not for the males from the children, that there is not out there any proof for the permissibility (of these toys/dolls) except the hadeeth of ‘Aaishah (may Allah be pleased with her) which says that she used to send for the daughters from the daughters of her neighbours to come to her and she would play with them with girls’ toys and the Messenger (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa ‘ala aalihi wa sallam) would help her in that and consent to her (doing that) and he would not rebuke her. Rather, indeed he (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa ‘ala aalihi wa sallam) [entered upon her] one time and saw amongst her toys a horse with two wings. So he (‘alaihi salaam) said to ‘Aaishah, playing about with her: ‘A horse which has two wings?!’ She said: ‘O’ Messenger of Allah, have you not heard’ or ‘has it not reached you that the horse of Sulaymaan (‘alaihi salaam) had wings?’ and he (‘alaihi salaatu wa salaam) laughed and he affirmed her in that. This hadeeth is the proof which makes it possible for us to rely upon it in allowing girl’s toys (i.e. dolls) with images and sculptured forms.

However, there is a principle of fiqh (jurisprudence) out there that every text which comes and carries within its folds a ruling which is an exception from the general proofs, then this ruling is halted at and it is not increased upon because it is against the fundamental principle. And that which was like that, i.e. that which was against the fundamental principle, then an analogy (qiyaas) is not made from that which was irregular to the fundamental principle, (and) because that which was against (an) analogy (being made with it), cannot (then) be used to make (a further) analogy based upon it, and indeed it is but connected (back) to the general principle.

If this meaning is clear to all, inshaa’Allah, then at this time we say: The toys which Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (may Allah be pleased with her) [had], they were from that type which some of the other women engaged in, in diverting the attention of their children away from requesting food and drink in the state of them fasting. And indeed they (the women) used to take for them images from coloured wool, from cotton and give them to those who were fasting from the youngsters, diverting their attention away from requesting food and drink. This type from the images, this type from the toys of the children, it was a local (type of image and toy) and it was a domestic [i.e. in the house] (type of image and toy), and it was not imported from outside the Islamic households, let alone being imported from the lands of disbelief and misguidance which manufacture toys and figures which are in accordance with their tastes, with their habits and their customs, and which do not agree in any way whatsoever with the habits of the Muslims and their customs and the rulings of their share ‘ah. And from that which shows you this, is what you see in these (imported) images, from the (imported) figures (which) sometimes are small (in size) and sometimes are big (in size), until (even) a young girl (who) can just about hold the doll and (yet) it is the same length as her and the same width as her and it has blond hair and clipped (in its hair) from the sides like the male children. And it (the imported doll) has a garment which are shorts i.e. the garment which has no legs to it, and it has the short garment which reveals the thighs (of the dolls). These sculptured forms contain the customs of those disbelievers and their habits and their mannerisms.

So, if we entered these sculptured forms into our houses, then first that (shows) that we are pleased with what they contain (i.e. from the customs, habits and mannerisms of those who made them)…firstly…, and secondly, that we are teaching our children (those) mannerisms and that we are bringing them up since their tender age upon finding pleasant these objects which are mutually contradictory to the Islamic clothing, and in particular that which is related to the men. And due to this, it is imperative upon us to beware of these imported clothes from the lands of disbelief with their [different] types and their (different) forms and their (different) purposes, and from that are the clothes of young children.

So we, with great sorrow, every time we enter a house we find the children of our brothers, those who adhere – according to our claim – to the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet, despite all of that, we find that the children have been dressed in clothes which have pictures on them and lewd pictures. Then, this calamity has spread until we have begun to clothe our youths who have passed the age of responsibility with shirts which have pictures on the back and on the front. And (when) sometimes we pray the Friday prayer, there comes to the Friday prayer, as you know, the one who does not pray except on the day of Friday, and most of his life he spends in play and amusement and despite that he (stills) attends the Friday prayer. So, we see him praying and behind him i.e. on the back of his shirt, there is a picture of a woman with her hair flowing and visible from her is her arm and her neck and the likes of that, and we face this picture (whilst praying).

These strange acts of heedlessness from the Muslims, I think that that which helps in spreading these shameful things and these Islamic violations is the saying that the prohibited images are indeed only but firstly, the three- dimensional images which have a shadow. As for that which is not three- dimensional, then these they claim are permissible and allowed and especially if they were not formed by the hand but were rather but formed with a photo camera or a printer. So, these are from the whisperings of shaytaan which he has thrown amongst humanity in this time and beautified for them (the fact) that there is nothing wrong with them.

So, it is upon the Muslims therefore, to stay away from buying any type from the types of clothes which have these pictures on them due to what we have mentioned earlier.

And in conclusion I say in response to that question (asked above): If the affair revolves around scraping off (the picture from) the garment and wasting the benefit from it and around seeking pleasure from it (the garment) despite its obvious and hidden shortcomings…I say if…., then seeking benefit (from it) is permissible. However, I believe that the believing woman and the one who with her capability is truly the mistress of the house, (should) erase the traces of that picture by scraping (it) off and with embroidery whereby the head is wiped out because the affair is as he (‘alaihi as salaam) said:

‘Indeed, the picture is but the head’.

So, if the head is wiped out, the picture is wiped out, even if some of its traces remain. And with this has the answer been completed inshaa’Allah.

Woe to Every Unjust Husband – Shaykh Ibn al-Uthaimeen

Woe to Every Unjust Husband
Taken from Sheikh Uthamin’s tafsir of Sura Al Mutaffiffun (chapter 83)

Allah says what can be translated as

1 Woe to Al Mutaffififun (those who give less in measure and weight)
2 Those who when they have to receive by measure from men demand full measure
3 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men give less than due
4 Do they not think that they will be resurrected (for reckoning)
5 On a great day
6 The day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Alamin (all that exits)

Sheikh Uthamin said concerning the explanation of Chapter Al-Mutaffinfin (Woe) The word woe is repeated in the Quran many times and according to what is most correct it is a statement of threat by which Allah threatens those whom oppose His command or indulge in what He has prohibited them from.

And the prohibition is mentioned in the sentence following the threat. Therefore in this case Allah the Exalted says woe be to Al Mutaffififun

So who are these Al Mutaffififun?

These Al Mutaffififun are explained in the next verse He said :

(Those who when they have to receive by measure from men demand full measure)
(And when they have to give by measure or weight to men they give less than what is due)
(Those who when they have to receive by measure from men demand full measure)

Meaning when they buy from the people that which is weighed they demand from the people their rights in full without any deficiency (And when they have to give by measure or weight to men they give less than what is due) But if they are weighing or they are the ones selling the weighed meat or selling something which is measured they give a weight that is deficient (they give less than what is due) Therefore they demand their rights in full and they are deficient in giving others their rights So they combined two affairs they combine greed and stinginess. Greed in demanding his rights in full without any leniency or forgiveness and stinginess because he does not give the full weight that is incumbent upon him. This example that Allah the Exalted mentions concerning the weigh and measure is just an example therefore it also applies to everything which is similar to this. Therefore everyone who demands their rights in full when they are due to receive rights but they don’t give full rights when the rights are due from them then they are included in these noble verses.

An example of this is the husband who wants from his wife that she gives him all of his rights in full and he is not lenient in any of his rights. But when it is time to give his wife her rights then he is lackadaisical and he does not give her that which is due her. And there are so many complaints from the women about this type of husband. And with Allah refuge is sought.

To the extent that many of the husbands want from their wives that they give them all of their rights but they don’t give their wives all of their rights and possibility the husbands will fall short in giving their wives most of the basic rights such as spending on them and living with them in kindness and other than that.

Verily oppressing another person is more severe than a person oppressing himself concerning the rights of Allah because the person oppressing himself concerning the rights of Allah is beneath the will of Allah if it is a sin other that shirk. If Allah wants to He will forgive the person and if He wants to He will punish the person. But in regards to the rights of the people there has to be compensation given. And for this reason the Prophet peace and blessing are upon him said (to his companions) who do you consider to be the bankrupt person. They said the one from us who does not have any currency or any possessions.

He (the Prophet peace and blessings are upon him) said Verily the bankrupt person from my nation is the one who will come on the Day of Judgment with good deeds the size of a mountain (meaning a lot of good deeds). So he will come with these good deeds but he has oppressed this person and he abused this person and he hit this person and he took the wealth from this person. Therefore this person he oppressed will take from his good deeds and that person will take from his good deeds and this person will take from his good deeds and if his good deeds run out before he repays that which he owes then he will be given the sins of those he wronged and their sins will be flung on top of him and then he will be flung into the fire.

So my advice to those who are lackadaisical or negligent concerning the rights of there spouses is that they fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic because the Prophet peace and blessings are upon him advised with this during the biggest gathering that the Islamic world witnessed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings are upon him on the day of Arafat during the farewell pilgrimage.

He said fear Allah concerning the women because verily you took them as a trust from Allah and you have been permitted to have intimate relationships with them by the word of Allah.

Also you will find that some of the parents desire for their children to give them all of their rights in a perfect manner. So they want for their children to honor them and give them their rights and to give them money and to give physical help and everything type of honor possible but he is neglectful concerning his children and he does not give his children their rights. We say that this person is Al Mutaf (those who give less in measure and weight) That father who wants for his children to honor him to the maximum all the while he is neglectful concerning their rights we say to him you are Al Mutaf (those who give less in measure and weight).

We say to him remember the statement of Allah the Exalted (what can be translated as)

1 Woe to Al Mutaffififun (those who give less in measure and weight)
2 Those who when they have to receive by measure from men demand full measure
3 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men give less than due

Teaching the child Kalimatut-Tawheed (Laa Ilaaha Illallah – There is no god/deity deserving of worship in truth except Allah)

February 9, 2013 Leave a comment

Teaching the child Kalimatut-Tawheed
(Laa Ilaaha Illallah – There is no god/deity deserving of worship in truth except Allah)

From the book “Taribeeyatul-Awlaad fee Dhaw’il-Kitaab was Sunnah” (Educating the Children in the Light of the Book (Qur’aan) and the Sunnah), introduced by Ash-Shaykh, Al-Aalim, Ar-Rabbaaniyy (the educator) Saalih inb Fawzaan Al-Fawzaan (May Allah preserve him upon good) and prepared by Abdus-Salaam Ibn Abdillah Sulaymaan (May Allah preserve him upon good).

Point 12: Teaching the child the Statement of At-Tawheed (Tawheed is to single out Allah alone, in all acts of worship).

So the first of what the child begins with in speech, obligatory upon al-waalidayn (the father and mother), is teaching him Kalimatut-Tawheed, and to instruct to it.

Ibn Abbaas (May Allah be pleased with his father and him) narrates that An-Nabiyy (the Prophet) (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him) said: ((Establish upon your children the first statement, Laa Ilaaha Illallah and instruct them at the time of death Laa Ilaaha Illallah)).

Umm Sulaym (May Allah be pleased with her), used to teach her son Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) to say: Laa Ilaaha Illallah (There is no god deserving of worship in truth except Allah). Say: I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and that was before Al-Fitaam (the end of 2 year suckling or nursing period of a baby from his mother).

It must be repeated in front of him, and this is pertaining to the mother and she plays with him. It then becomes habitual. To bring about understanding, she explains to him a simple explanation teaching him its meaning.

He knows that Allah is One, and He has no partner(s). He is Al-Khaaliq (The Creator). He is above the heavens, and He rises above His Arsh (Throne). He is fully aware (in sight and knowledge) over us and knowledgeable of our affairs. He hears and sees. Verily He is Al-Qaadir (His will and decree is over everything).

Trusting upon Allah becomes habitual and Allah is Ash-Shaafee (the One Who cures and gives good health). It is obligatory upon us to love Him and to worship Him. Likewise, the child is to be taught to love An-Nabiyy (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him), and to obey him. He is to be told something regarding his (An-Nabiyy) behaviour and his traits. That he loved children and played with them and similar to that of what she teaches him of their understanding.

It is repeated upon them: ((Who is your Lord? Who is your Prophet? What is your Religion?)) and ((Where is Allah?)).

He learns about love of the Companions (May Allah be pleased with them all) and the righteous (May Allah have mercy upon them). He memorises Al-Faatihah, Suratul-Ikhlaas and Al-Mu’awwidhatayn ( Suratul-Falaq and Suratun-Naas).

Beware of Pokemon game, which involves many religious violations, including (Shirk) polytheism and gambling

February 3, 2013 Leave a comment

Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu ‘ala rasulullaah

Amma ba’d

Here is a fatwa from the Permanent Committee regarding the game, Pokemon. In the question, many evils of the game including its references to the Shinto religion is mentioned:

a- The six-pointed star: You rarely find a card that does not contain such a star. It is associated with Judaism, the logo and sign of the state of Israel, and the first symbol of the Masonry organizations in the world.

b- The cross: The game contains many forms of the cross which is the symbol of Christians.

d- Symbols of the Shinto creed: Shinto is a polytheistic religion that exists in Japan. The Japanese deify the sun, the earth and many plants and animals. The game contains many of these images.

In the answer of the Committee, they mention:

Furthermore, this game promotes and circulates the symbols of disbelievers and the forbidden images. It is also a form of consuming money unlawfully.

Accordingly, the Committee decides that this game, earnings gained through it, its sale or purchase are all prohibited, for it is a form of gambling that is forbidden by Allah and His Messenger. The Committee also recommends that every Muslim should be careful of this game and prevent his children from playing it to preserve religion, morals and creed.

May Allaah protect the Muslims & their kids from all evils and the plots of the Kuffaar.

Ebook: The Ruling on Muslims Attending Mixed Universities – Translated and Compiled by Mustafa George DeBerry

January 9, 2013 2 comments

A little more than two years ago, a fatwa was attributed to the Noble Shaykh Saalih ibn Muhammad al-Luhaydaan (May Allaah preserve him) wherein he permitted Muslims to attend mixed gender universities, and that he said that it is allowed for men and women to mix in this sort of environment, as a matter of necessity.  Clarification was sought from the Shaykh, only to realize that he made his ruling in a very limited circumstance for a particular situation. However, this fatwa was then falsely applied in an absolute way, to any general situation, causing much confusion in the west amongst Muslim communities. Our noble brother Abu Ismael Mustafa George (May Allaah preserve him) has compiled this excellent treatise translating many of the fatawaa of the scholars from the past to the present on this issue. Mustafa George states in his introduction,

“The purpose of this compilation is to remind myself and the English speaking Muslim community of the tremendous dangers that free mixing has upon the believing men and women as well as the community as a whole. A clear explanation and justification of why Islaam has forbidden such free mixing is present in the abundant proofs from the Qur’aan, the authentic Sunnah and the statements of the Salaf.”

After careful examination of this ebook, the reader will be left with a vividly clear understanding of this issue, inshaaAllaah ta’alaa.

An excerpt taken from the chapter: “The Proofs For The Impermissibility of Mixing From The Glorious Qur’aan”:

 {Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts etc.). That is purer for them. Verily Allaah is All-Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts etc.)…}

Shaykh Muhammad Ameen ash-Shinqeetee (rahimahullaah) commented:

“From the Qur’aanic proofs which support the impermissibility of mixing between men and women is the fact that Allaah has ordered the two sexes to lower their gaze from one another….thus if one were to ponder over these religious, upright mannerisms that are mentioned in these verses, he would become aware that the callers to indecency and mixing between men and women have opposed these verses with a devilish philosophy and they conceal behind this the intent of losing dignity and chastity.”

Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez Ibn Baaz (rahimahullaah) commented on the above verse saying:

“In this verse Allaah orders His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) to inform the believing men and women that it is mandatory for them to lower their gaze and protect their private parts from fornication and adultery. From that which is known is that protecting one’s private parts from evil can only be accomplished when one also abandons all avenues of falling into such evil. Mixing between men and women is one of the greatest means of this evil occurring.”

He (Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez Ibn Baaz) also stated:

“From that which is known is that protecting the private parts from evil acts can only be accomplished when an individual abstains from all actions that lead to evil and certainly, looking at that which is not permissible and mixing between men and women in workplaces and other than this is one of the greatest means of falling into evil actions. Consequently, how is it possible that one can lower his gaze and protect his privates and a female cover her beauty if she has joined the men and mixed with them ?!”

Directing The Fathers To Give Importance To Raising The Children Islamically – Shaykh Abdul-Azeez ibn Baaz

Directing The Fathers To Give Importance To Raising The Children Islamically
Shaykh Abdul-Azeez ibn Baaz

[Watch Video with English Titles Here]

Question:

I have noticed, O eminent Shaykh, that there are many of the fathers who have been negligent in raising their children leaving them to engage in things which are of the highest level of detriment to them. Due to this, I seek from your eminence that you favor us by directing the fathers to give much importance to their children; especially in this time, may Allaah reward you with good.

Answer:

In the name of Allaah the Most Merciful the Bestower of mercy; may prayers and peace from Allaah be upon Allaah’s Messenger, his family, his companions, and those who are guided with his guidance. As to what follows:

This which the questioner mentioned deserves attention, because watching over the children, males and female, and giving them attention and their Islamic cultivation is an affair which is from the most important matters. The noble Prophet ﷺ said:

كلكم راعٍ وكلكم مسؤول عن رعيته، فالرجل راع في أهل بيته ومسؤول عن رعيته، والأمير الذي ولي على الناس راعٍ ومسؤول عن رعيته، والمرأة راعية في بيت زوجها ومسؤولة عن رعيتها، والخادم راعٍ في مال سيده ومسؤول عن رعيته ثم قال: ألا وكلكم راع وكلكم مسؤول عن رعيته

Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock. The man is a shepherd over his family and he is responsible for his flock. The Ameer who has been placed in charge of the people is a Shepherd, and he is responsible for his flock. The woman is a shepherd within the house of her husband and she is responsible for her flock. The servant is a shepherd over his master’s wealth and is responsible for his flock. Then he said: Indeed each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.

(Imaam Al-Bukhaaree reported it in his Saheeh as well as others.)

So this great Hadeeth indicates the obligation of giving importance to one’s flock. The greatest of responsibility in that is that of the Imaam who is over the people; and he is the Ameer of the Muslims and their Sultaan. It is obligatory upon him to watch over them regarding all that which contains their rectification and the safeguarding of their religion and giving attention to that which will benefit them in the Dunyaa as well as the hereafter in accordance to his ability and as much as he can. The greatest of that is to give attention to the religion so that they are upright upon it and that they cling to it; and that is by way of performing the obligatory duties and leaving the prohibited, as is obligatory upon everyone who is in charge of the affairs of the people to rules between them with the Sharee’ah of Allaah and to make them hold fast to the legislation of Allaah. And he is not to rule between them with other than the legislation of Allaah. He is responsible for that as He, the Majestic and High, has stated:

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِيْنَ ٩٢ عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ٩٣

“So, by your Lord (O Muhammad ﷺ), We shall certainly call all of them to account, For all that they used to do.” (Al-Hijr 15:92-93)

Likewise, as in this authentic Hadeeth:

كلكم راعٍ وكلكم مسؤول عن رعيته

Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.

So he who is placed in charge over the people is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. We ask Allaah to give the leaders of the Muslims Tawfeeq in all that which contains their rectification and the rectification of the all Muslims.

Likewise, every person is responsible for his household. So the father is responsible for his children and the mother is responsible for her children from the perspective of cultivating them Islamically and commanding them with the good and forbidding them from evil and making them cling to the truth and abandon that which opposes the legislation of Allaah. From that is the affair of the prayer; for it is the supporting pillar of Al-Islaam. So it obligatory upon the father to give attention to his children, and likewise the mother, so that they are upright upon the prayer and so that they safeguard it in the houses of Allaah along with the Muslims. Allaah the Mighty and Majestic says:

حَافِظُواْ عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ والصَّلاَةِ الْوُسْطَى

“Guard strictly (five obligatory) As¬-Salawaat (the prayers) especially the middle Salat (i.e. the best prayer ¬ ‘Asr).” (Al-Baqarah 2:238)

And He, Glorified be He, said:

وَأَقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتُواْ الزَّكَاةَ وَارْكَعُواْ مَعَ الرَّاكِعِينَ

“And perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and give Zakât, and Irka’ (i.e. bow down or submit yourselves with obedience to Allaah) along with Ar-¬Raki’ûn.” (Al-Baqarah 2:43)

He, the Majestic and High, said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواقُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ

“O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones.” (At-Tahrim 66:6)

The parents are included in this.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواقُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ

“O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones.” (At-Tahrim 66:6)

Paying attention to the affair of the prayer is from the reasons for protection from the Fire, for both the parent and the child. Allaah said, addressing his Prophet ﷺ

وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَاصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا

“And enjoin As-Salât (the prayer) on your family, and be patient in offering them.” (Ta-Ha 20:132)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

مروا أبناءكم بالصلاة لسبع واضربوهم عليها لعشر وفرقوا بينهم في المضاجع

Command your children to pray at seven and beat them concerning it at ten; and separate them in the bed.

So the child, whether male or female, is to be commanded to pray when he reaches seven and beaten concerning it when he reaches ten. This is because at this point he has reached and drawn near to maturity. The when he attains puberty is becomes individually obligatory and binding upon him; and he deserves, if he abandons it, to be commanded to repent; so if he repents then this is good otherwise he is killed by the leader of the Muslims. So the affair (of the prayer) is major. Hence, it is obligatory upon the fathers and the mothers, the elder brothers of the children, and their uncles to cooperate in this matter and strive hard in rectifying the children and cultivating them Islamically; and fro that is making them hold fast to the prayer and commanding them with it when they reach seven and beating them concerning it when they reach ten and fall short in that.

Likewise, they are to be commanded with that which Allaah commands them with from righteousness toward their parents and safeguarding the tongue from abuse, cursing, and lying, and other than that from sins, from that which Allaah the Mighty and Majestic has prohibited. Likewise, that they are prohibited from consuming intoxicants and smoking so that they will not grow up upon this falsehood. So it is obligatory upon the fathers and mothers to give attention to the children regarding that which benefits them in the Dunyaa and the hereafter, and it is upon them to prohibit them from that which Allaah the Mighty and Majestic has prohibited them from, so that they grow up with a righteous upbringing and so that they will be upright upon the religion of Allaah. So when they reach puberty they will know that which is obligatory upon them and what they are prohibited from and they cultivated upon doing god and upon leaving off evil; then their father, their brother, their mother, and whoever played a role in this good will have the likes of their reward, as the noble Prophet ﷺ said:

من دل على خير فله مثل أجر فاعله

He who directs to good will have the likes of the reward of the one who does it.

This is from the bounty of Allaah the glorified and High. We ask Allaah, on behalf of all, for Tawfeeq and guidance.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Whether you deny the fact or try to explain it away, the reality is you will be placed in a cold, dark and possibly damp place as you see if only you visit the  grave yards.  All those who came before you whether they be from the Prophets and Messengers (with the exception of ‘Eesaa who is still alive and upon returning back to the earth Allah will also take his soul after a period), the Sahabah, the righteous and the sinful, all of us will die!!

Do you for a second believe that there is any place in this world where the Angel of Death will be unable to reach you???  If you hide yourself in the highest fortress with the ultimate in locks that the Angel of Death will not be able to take you??

Don’t forget this fact when you are lying, decieving, cheating and misbehaving and being disobedient to your parents that you have forgotten the fact that ALLAH WILL TAKE YOU!!!  DON’T FORGET THAT FACT!!  When your parents tell you to pray, when your parents ask you to do something and you ignore them and you think of doing something else DON’T FORGET THE FACT THAT ALLAH HAS CONNECTED YOUR WORSHIP, MADE YOUR WORSHIP, PART OF THAT WORSHIP, OBEDIENCE TO YOUR PARENTS AND BEING GOOD TO YOUR PARENTS…!!!

Advice to our Youth – Abu Muhammad al-Maghribee [Audio/English]

Advice to our Youth
Abu Muhammad al-Maghribee [Audio/English]

In Islam the youth have an important place and as such deserve specific attention.

Here are a series of lectures delivered by our brother Abu Muhammad al-Maghribee on the 24th, 25th and 26th February 2012.  May Allaah reward him for his efforts in speading the Da’wah of the Salaf and keep him sincere in his efforts, ameen!!

Abu Muhammad says: “The child is like dough, when it fresh piece of dough.  When he was born, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years they don’t know much.  They don’t know anything.  Just like that fresh dough, you can shape it well roung.  You can make it long you can make it square you can cut it you can make it anyway you want it.  But once you cook it and it’s hard, can you do something else with it?  You can’t!  You are stuck with that.  Like wise,  certain people they neglect their children until they become a teenager, and they are already set up on one way or a different way… all of a sudden now the parents want to do something about it…”

For those brother and sisters that have never heard a lecture by Abu Muhammad, give him a try.   I find his lectures to the youth [amongst others] have a beautiful way of attracting their attention and focusing them on a topic.  My children love his lectures very much.

But, that is not to say in anyway that the adults can’t benefit!  They should listen to the lectures they download whether they by by Abu Muhammad or anyone else before giving them to their children.

Mothering And Fathering – Taalib Abdullah (Audio/English)

Mothering And Fathering

Mothering And Fathering in Islam - Talib Abdullaah

I recall when some brothers came to Philly from Delaware and said that they had a da’wah center and wanted to do an event there. The day for the event came so I drove down with my audio equipment to a recreation center that had very good room for seating.

I didn’t really know Sheikh Taalib Abdullah (may Allah preserve him and his family) at the time of this event. And as is the case when you work an event you’re very busy focusing on your job so you are not always listening to the speakers when they are on the Mic. After this talk it was clear to me that Taalib Abdullah was a father and a husband and that he was speaking from experience.

I’ve been trying to keep a relationship to him ever since then. Listen to this talk and you will understand why.

Righteous parents are the keys to a righteous child by the will of Allah. Let’s choose righteousness.

Please remember our Muslim youth. Especially those who are fatherless. Share this lecture with them may Allah bless you and us with mercy and guidance.
