Advice In Light Of The Recent Film Degrading The Prophet Muhammad – Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan – Translated by Raha Batts
Question: “O Eminent Shaykh, may Allah grant you Tawfeeq, there are many questions as to what is your advice to the students of knowledge and other than them regarding that which has happened recently regarding the derogatory film about the Prophet, what is the advice of your Eminence regarding that?”
Answer: Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan [Hafidhahullah]:
”Our advice regarding that is to have comportment and not to show disapproval in this manner; demonstrations or harming innocent people, and wasting wealth, this is not permissible. Those who must respond to this are the scholars, not the common folk. The scholars respond to these affairs. They (i.e. the Kuffaar) want to cause chaos amongst us and they wish to affect us; this is what they want. They want us to fight one another. The soldiers withold while these people attack; and there occurs beating, killing, and injury. This is what they want. Calm down, calm down. Those who are responsible for responding are the people of knowledge and insight. Or they could chose not to respond to them and resolve not to respond. The pagans used to call the Messenger a magician, a soothysayer, a liar etc. and Allaah commanded him to have patience. They did not protest in Makkah nor did they destroy any of the homes of the pagans nor did they kill anyone. Patience and comportment until Allaah the Glorified and High facilitates a way for the Muslims.
That which is obligatory is to have comportment; especially in these times and in these tribulations and within this evil today which is going on within the lands of the Muslims. It is obligatory to have comportment and not rush into these affairs; and the commoners are not fit to deal with this, for the ignorant do not know. None should deal with this except the people of knowledge and insight.”

Our brother, Aboo Ramlah Aadam Lazarus hafithahullaah bases this reminder upon a lecture delivered by Shaykh Rabee’ Ibn Haadee hafithahullah entitled, “The Correct Position Against the People of Innovation.”
The speaker first defines who are the people of Sunnah and who are the people of Bid’ah (innovation), then he speaks about some of the Salafee brothers who are negligent in dealing with the people of bid’ah and who are put off when topics of manhaj are discussed.
Towards the end, the speaker brings more benefits from the speech of Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee hafithahullaah, such as the claim that refutation of the people of bid’ah must come from a Scholar only and other doubts.

How Ahlus Sunnah need to be unified in their stance toward Ahlul Bid’ah
All Praise is due to Allaah, and may the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger, his family, his companions, and those who follow them til the Day of Judgment.
[The speaker was Abu Ramlah Aadam Lazarus, a graduate of Madeenah University who compiled this lecture from Shaikh Rabee' Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee's tape Al mawqif a sahih min ahlul bid'ah ("The Correct Position Against the People of Innovation") and from additional benefits by Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee and Shaikh 'Ubaid A-Jabiree (hafidhahumullaah).]
This [topic] is necessary because the people of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah in this time seem confused on this issue. As for the people of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah, they are the people who hold fast to the Qur`an and Sunnah, with the understanding of the sahaba (companions) and [the rest of] the salaf. And as for Ahlul Bid’ah, they are those who have innovated into Islam that which is not from it – from beliefs or actions – or they choose to understand the text of the Qur`an and Sunnah with their own desire, rather than basing their understanding on the understanding of the sahaba and [the rest of] the salaf.

Ibnul Qayyim–(rahimahullaah) – said, "Deeds without sincerity are like a traveler who carries in his water-jug dirt. The carrying of it burdens him and it brings no benefit."
Ibn Mas'ud –(radiyallaahu 'anhu) – would advise his students, "If your intention is one of these three, do not seek knowledge: To shame the ignorant, or to argue with the Fuqahaa' (scholars), or to cause people to turn their faces in your direction. Intend with your actions and words that which is with Allaah, for indeed that which is with Allaah shall remain and everything else shall perish."
