Question:
I have some questions; the first question: what was the state of the Salaf As-Saalih, may Allaah have mercy upon them and be pleased with them, in anticipation of this great month? How was their guidance? How was their character and their conduct? The second matter, O eminent Shaykh, how does the Muslim prepare to take advantage of these nights and days which he is now living in; preparation by way of knowledge, by knowing the rulings of fasting and knowing the nullifiers of the fast and its rulings? Some of the people are heedless of these things so they do not understand the affair of fasting and they also do not have the obligatory understanding of the affair of the fast, has the Shaykh noticed this matter? May Allaah reward you.
Answer:
In the name of Allaah the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. Wa Alaykum As-Salaam wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh; may Allaah bless you. Regarding that which you have drawn attention to, from these two great matters; the first question is regarding the condition of the Salaf in the month of Ramadhaan. The condition of the Salaf, as it is recorded in the narrated books with chains of narrations from the trustworthy people (narrating) from them is that they would ask Allaah the Mighty and Majestic to make them reach Ramadhaan before it entered; they would ask Allaah to make them reach the month of Ramadhaan due to what they knew that it contained from abundant good and general benefit. Then, when Ramadhaan entered, they would ask Allaah to aid them upon righteous actions therein. The when Ramadhaan ended they would ask Allaah to accept it from them. As Allaah the Mighty and Majestic says:
وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَ ٦٠ أُولَئِكَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَابِقُونَ ٦١
“And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salât (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on].”(Al-Mu’minun 23:60-61)
They would strive hard in doing actions, then worry would afflict them, after the action, as to whether their action was accepted or not. That was due to their knowledge of the greatness of Allaah and their knowledge that Allaah does not accept except that (action) which is done purely for His face and correctly in accordance with the Sunnah of His Messenger from actions. So they would not purify themselves, and they would fear that their actions would be rendered null. So (worry) that they (the action) will be accepted was weightier with them than (even) the performance of them. This is because Allaah the Mighty and Majestic says:
إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ
“Verily, Allaah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious).” (Al-Ma’idah 5:27)
So they would devote their time within this month, as we have previously mentioned, to worship and would minimize actions of the Dunyaa. They would spend their time sitting in the houses of Allaah the Mighty and Majestic and they would say: We are safeguarding our fast and we will not backbite anyone. They would read the Mus-hafs and study the Book of Allaah the Mighty and Majestic. They would safeguard its time from squandering. They were not heedless or negligent as many of the people are today. Rather, they would preserve its time; the night, by standing (in prayer) and the day by fasting, recitation of the Qur’aan, the remembrance of Allaah, and righteous actions. They were not negligent therein of (even) a minute or a second, except that they would put forth therein righteous actions. This is the first question.

The means to a righteous heart – Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan
The means to a righteous heart
Shaykh Saalih bin Fawzaan al-Fawzaan
Question:
What is the way to the righteousness of the heart and to purify it from hatred and envy? And what are the most helpful means to make the heart righteous in this life?
Answer:
Righteousness of the heart is achieved by a few things.
The first: having a sincere intention for Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, in the righteous deeds. And remembering the Greatness of Allaah, the Majestic and Exalted, remembering that you stand in need of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, and increasing in the dhikr (remembrance) of Allaah. Allaah, the Most High, has said:
{Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah – Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allaah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts find rest.}
[Soorah ar-Ra'd (13): 28]
So from that which brings the heart to life, is increasing in the remembrance of Allaah. And verily, he (the Prophet) – sallal-Laahu ‘alayhi wa sallam – has said:
“The example of the one who remembers Allaah and the one who doesn’t remember Allaah, is like the example of the living and the dead.”
Also from the means of bringing the heart to life, is eating from halaal (legal, permissible food) and staying away from eating haraam (forbidden food). For verily, eating from haraam hardens the heart, corrupts the heart or makes the heart sick. Because bad food influences the heart and the body.
Also from the means of bringing the heart to life… Allaah, the Most High, has said:
{O (you) Messengers! Eat of the Tayyibaat (all kinds of Halaal foods which Allaah has made legal), and do righteous deeds.}
[Soorah al-Mu'minoon (23):51]
And Allaah has ordered the believers with that which He ordered the Messengers with. He said:
{O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah – Islamic Monotheism)! Eat of the Tayyibaat that We have provided you with.}
[Soorah al-Baqarah (2):172]
He should eat from the Tayyibaat, meaning: the permissible things. Because Allaah makes the Tayyibaat permissible for us and makes the Khabaa’ith (all evil and bad things) forbidden for us. So eating from the Tayyibaat, which are the permissible things, feeds the hearts a good meal. And eating from the Khabaa’ith feeds the hearts a bad meal.
That which makes the hearts sick as well, is listening to songs and musical instruments, which has increased alot in this time! And that which makes the hearts sick as well or makes it die, is being devoted to satellite TV, the internet and what is broadcasted in these media from wickedness, evil thoughts, forbidden desires and disgusting scenes. This is from that which makes the hearts sick.
Also, accompanying bad people and sitting with them corrupts the hearts. Similarly, accompanying the best people, the scholars and the people of khayr (good), is from that which brings the hearts to life.

Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh: “We have caused the people to be lost in the name of Tawhīd” – Shaykh Fawzan
Questioner:
One of the callers of Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh says,
“We have caused the people to be lost in the name of Tawhīd and have encouraged them upon sinning. And this is due to the statement that the Muwahhid (person of Tawhīd) will enter Paradise regardless of his sins other than Shirk. Tawhīd, Tawhīd and Tawhīd. So how will we respond to Allāh عز وجل regarding the existence of these sinners?”
So the question is, what is your Excellency’s opinion regarding this statement.
Shaykh Sālih bin Fawzān bin ‘Abdullāh al-Fawzān:
This is the statement of an ignoramus or a misguided one. Either he is an ignoramus and does not know the speech regarding the issues of knowledge, or he knows yet is misguided and desires misguidance of the people.
So there is no doubt that Shirk is the greatest of the sins and that its committer will not enter Paradise, period. And as for the committer of sins, even if they be major and not Shirk, then forgiveness and entrance to Paradise will return to him. And this is something which is not from us.
Allāh جل وعلا says, “Verily, Allāh forgives not that partners should be set up with Him in worship, but He forgives that (anything else) to whom He pleases” (An-Nisā’ 4: 48).
And in the Hadīth [the Messenger ﷺ said, that Allāh will say,] “Remove from the Fire whosoever has in his heart īmān equivalent to the weight of mustard seed” [Narrated by Abī Sa'īd and reported by Bukhārī & others].
So Tawhīd guarantees for its possessor Paradise, either in the beginning or in the end, even if he is punished (in Hell). As for the Mushrik then there is no security for him ever.
“It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allāh and worship none but Him alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allāh)… “ (Al-An’ām: 6: 82) meaning by Shirk. “…for them (only) there is security and they are the guided” (Al-An’ām: 6: 82).
So the people of Tawhīd have security, those who do not cover their īmān with Zulm meaning Shirk have security, either completely or in the end. As for the Mushrik then he has no security, period. And he is eternally in the Fire.
So this one who says that Tawhīd caused the people to be lost, then this – and Allāh’s Refuge is sought – is atrocious speech. This is atrocious speech, false speech. Tawhīd is what rectified the people and it is what will save the people on the Day of Resurrection from the Fire. So, it (Tawhīd) is the basis, and it is the foundation. And there is no comparison between the (ordinary) sin and Shirk. Shirk is the greatest of sins, and there is no salvation alongside of it. As for the sins then they are under the will (of Allāh). If Allāh Wills He can punish their committer and if He Wills He can forgive him. And if he is punished then his final outcome will (eventually) be Paradise. Na’am.

The Attack on the Madhâhib and the forbidding of Taqlîd (blind following) of today – Shaykh al-Fawzân

Question:
People who subscribe to knowledge and especially young students look down upon Fiqh-matters and especially the books of the Madhâhib. Their argument is that they do not consist of evidence. They even look down upon the Ijtihâd of the Imams in this matter. What do you advise in terms of this and the respect for the Imams of the Madhâhib and the importance of the Madhâhib. There are people today who look down upon them, criticize them and say that they are freed from the Madhâhib and that they take directly from the Qur’ân and Sunnah.
Shaykh al-Fawzân:
It is a deviation. We have said that and clarified it. We said that the one who fulfils the conditions of Ijtihâd does Ijtihâd. He is not allowed to follow blindly. THESE ARE HOWEVER FEW TODAY, IF THEY EVEN EXIST. The more time passes, the more the knowledge disappears. The prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Allâh does not seize this knowledge by pulling it out from the chests of men. It is seized by the death of the scholars. When there then are no scholar left, the people take the ignorant as leaders who in turn will answer without knowledge and go astray and lead others astray.”
The more time passes, the more the knowledge disappears. It has also been reported that by the end of time, few scholars will exist and many readers [will exist]. Many readers who lack understanding will exist.
It is wrong to ignore the Fiqh-books. Fiqh is the richness of this Ummah. It is a great richness. However, that does not mean that we take everything that is in them to heart. We filter (I.e. right from mistakes). The one who has the capacity filters. He takes that which is strongest according to the evidence. We said that there are four types of people; an absolute Mujtahid, a Mujtahid within his Madhhab who considers what opinion is the correct one, one who follows blindly and a layman. This fiqh is, as said, a great richness in the hands of the scholars. They study it and take help from it in order to understand the Qur’ân and Sunnah. They take its verdicts and the statements of the Imams that agree with the evidence and leave that which contradicts the evidence.
As for the one who ignores it and says that they shall do a new Ijtihâd… Who is the one who is to make a new Ijtihâd? There is none! It is a deviation. Are you who say that you shall make a new Ijtihâd as the four Imams? Such as Imâm Ahmad and Imâm Mâlik? What does this mean? I wish that they existed. But you don’t have more than the smallest who follows blindly. You have nothing to come with. Don’t destroy yourself. Don’t destroy others. Fear Allâh! It is allowed to blindly follow in necessity. Allâh (ta’âlâ) said:
فَاسْأَلُواْ أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ
“So ask the people of the message if you do not know.” (16:43)
This is a blind following in necessity. It is OBLIGATORY to blindly follow in necessity. It is prohibited to blindly follow in the case of capability. It is forbidden for the one who is able to make Ijtihâd to blindly follow. In necessity, it is obligatory to blindly follow. It is not fully prohibited to blindly follow and neither is it fully allowed to blindly follow. The matter is thusly detailed. We do not say that you should take to heart everything that exists in Fiqh. We say that you should filter and follow that which is based on evidence. They are after all more knowledgeable than you about proving and the extraction of rulings. You have nothing to come with. You should rely on them and the words of the Fuqahâ’ and look to their evidence. If you are able to consider, do so. If you are not able to, you follow that which is (written) there even if you do not know of the evidence. For this is a necessity. This has to be understood. There are people who fight the Madhâhib today. Where should the people go? Should they deviate? There is one who has authored a book by the name “Islâm without Madhâhib”. What without Madhâhib? Where should the people go then? Should they go to the ignoramuses? This is a great problem.
Terrorism – See how Shaykh al-Fawzân floored suicide-bombers

Shaykh al-Fawzân: It is obligatory upon the Muslims to respect the governmental facilities and to take care of them and make sure that they develop. What should then be said about devastating facilities and to blow them up and the likes? Not even the mosques are safe from them anymore. They blow them up and throw bombs into them. They kill the people in their mosques. They blow up their buildings and facilities. In addition, they claim that it is from Jihâd for Allâh’s sake and that they are Mujâhidûn.
One has to be aware of this and alert those who are deceived by these and think that this really is from Jihâd and that the deed is noble [while it absolutely is not]. The deed is in fact a destruction and Allâh does not love those who spread corruption. This is from spreading corruption upon the earth and Allâh does not love those who spread corruption.
Morover, innocent people are killed. People whom Allâh has forbidden to kill without due right. They commit sins and they may even kill themselves. They blow themselves up and say that it is martyrdom. How can a self-killer be a martyr when the messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that he is in the Fire? Allâh (jalla wa ‘alâ) said:
“Do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful. And whoever does that in aggression and injustice – then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allah , is [always] easy.” (4:29-30)
The prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said in the authentic Hadîth:
“The one who kills himself with poison will have it in his hand and drink it slowly and swallow it in hell. The one who kills himself with an iron will have the iron in the hand and stab himself with it in hell. The one who kills himself by throwing himself down a mountain will be thrown down into hell.” (Muslim 175)
A self-killer has done a Kabîrah (great sin). How can he be a martyr? How can one say that he is going to paradise when the prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that he is going to the Fire? Allâh allowed martyrdom to be reached if one dies for His sake. THEY (MARTYRS) ARE KILLED. They were killed:
“And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead.” (3:169)
“And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah , “They are dead.” Rather, they are alive” (2:154)
It is the one who dies in Jihâd under the banner of the Muslims who is a martyr. The one who is killed by the enemy. As for the person who takes his own life, he has done a great sin and risks ending up in the Fire.
When the prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was asked about the person who fights with vigilance, courage and so on and who from among them fights for Allah’s sake, he said:
“The one who fights so that the word of Allâh shall be the highest fights for Allâh’s sake.”
The matter should be referred to the word of Allâh and His messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and not to deviant destroyers who brainwash people and give them these foul opinions.
That they destroy the administrations and facilities of the country and even the mosques goes to show that they have nothing to do with Jihâd for Allâh’s sake.
If one risks being cursed for having urinated on the road or in the shadow of a tree, one may ask how the matter is if one blows up buildings with people in them.
These people are obliged to repent before Allâh (‘azza wa jall) and to see the difference between friend and enemy and to learn beneficial knowledge by which Allâh guides them with to the straight way. They should not take knowledge from misleading people.
Importance of Believing and Not Doubting
Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu ‘ala rasulullaah
Amma ba’d
Importance of Believing and Not Doubting
Believing in the text (Qur’an and authentic Sunnah) when they reach you – without doubting or wavering – is from Eeman as well as having good manners with Allaah, as Shaikh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-’Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) explained in his highly beneficial book Upright Moral Character – A Concise Guide to Attaining Dignified Islaamic Character.
The Scholars, who are the Inheritors of the Prophets, stress the importance of believing in and submitting to what comes in the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah - not doubting it, nor giving precedence to one’s intellect above the Qur`an and authentic Sunnah.
For example, Abu Bakr (radiallaahu ‘anhu) was given the title “as-Siddiq” (the one who attested to the Truth), because he immediately believed when told of the Irsaa` wal Mi’raj that Allaah took His Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) on.
Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allaah) Who took His slave (Muhammad) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Haraam (at Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Jerusalem), the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad) of Our Ayaat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. (Al-Isra, ayah 1)
Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad) about what he saw [during the Mi'raaj: (Ascent of the Prophet over the seven heavens)]. (An-Najm, ayah 12)
When Aboo Bakr was told by the Mushriks (polytheists) about the Israa` and Mi’raaj which his friend (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said to have undergone, he said:
If he has said this, then it is just as he has said. I believe him with regard to news coming from the heavens, so should I not believe him in this?
- [Reported by al Haakim (3/62), authenticated by al Albaanee in as-Saheehah (no 306).]
While teaching 40 Hadeeth of Imam An-Nawaawee (rahimahullaah) with the Sharh of Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah), a student said:
Shaytan will strike at that moment and will whisper for you to rely on your intellect (and reject the ayah or hadeeth)… This is how the deviant go astray (meaning they listen to shaytan, and obey his whisperings). …But you have to remember the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) did not speak of his own desire.
Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. (An-Najm, ayat 3 and 4)
Meaning it is only revelation from Allaah – Subhanah (Who is free of any imperfection, error, deficiency, mistake). Allaah’s Promise is the Truth, and whose words can be truer than those of Allaah? (Of course, none). (An-Nisa`, aya 122)
Shaikh Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) said in his Sharh of Lum’atul I’tiqaad:
And the Muslim does not intefere in this using his own intellect and his own understanding because the matters of the ghayb cannot be truly perceived by the person’s intellect. Rather Eeman in the hidden and unseen is only founded upon submitting and believing in the reports from Allaah and His Messenger. …For Eemaan (true faith) is in fact nothing other than eeman in the ghayb (hidden and unseen). As for having true faith in something which has been witnessed, then there is no special distinction for any person in that! This would not be called ‘Eemaan.’
In explaining why the astray Mu’tazila reject the punishment of the grave, Shaikh Fawzaan said:
These misguided people gave precedence to their intellects over the textual evidences. So when their intellects could not perceive the Punishment of the Grave, they rejected it and denied the ahaadeeth about it.
The affairs of the ghayb (hidden and unseen) and the matters of the Hereafter cannot be perceived by the intellects and therefore there is no scope for the intellects to enter into them. Rather our beliefs in the matters of the ghayb (hidden and unseen) and the matters of the Hereafter are built upon the authentic reports about them. We do not say anything about these matters unless it is taken from an authentic evidence from the Book and the Sunnah.
The student relaying Shaikh Fawzaan’s Sharh of 40 Hadeeth Nawaawee said:
This is why (learning) Tawheed (and the Usool) is so important. …You must accept everything the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said. “La shak”, never doubt what the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said. It is wajibun that you accept everything the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said. It is wajib to obey him, imitate him, and take him as an example, and not innovate (in beliefs, statements or actions).
…And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it). (Al-Hashr, ayah 7)
And then said:
Yaqin (Certainty) comes with ‘Ilm (authentic, beneficial knowledge). Jahl (Ignorance) leads to Shuboohat (confusion, doubts).
Authentic Knowledge —-> Yaqin
Ignorance —————> Doubts

The Nikah Has Many Benefits And Is A Protection From Fornication – Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan
The Nikah Has Many Benefits And Is A Protection From Fornication
Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan [Hafidhahullah]
النكاح فيه مصالح كثيرة و هو عصمة من الزنا – مقطع لفيضلة الشيخ العلامة صالح الفوزان (15/3/1434)
Translated by Abu ‘Abdullah Naasir Hussain [Hafidhahullah]
Courtesy of WeFilmHD
The Nikah is from the ways of Allah with regard to his creation, between the children of Adam, male and female.
With it there are great benefits, from them: chastity of the two spouses, one to the other; to fulfill what is required from the husband towards his wife; the husband taking care of his wife; and protecting her. From it is also the fulfilling of the desires of both sexes and from it is having children. There are many benefits from Nikah…
The most important thing is that it keeps you chaste from adultery, from fornication and the loss of lineage, and from the corruption of moral uprightness. There is the protection of one’s health.
As for adultery and fornication then their end place is in epidemics and in lethal illnesses, as is well-known.
وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًا ٣٢
And come not near to unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Fahishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives him).
[Surah Al-'Isrā':32]
With it there is the loss of lineage, the spread of illnesses, the loss of modesty and chastity. With it there are great harms; fornication, we seek refuge with Allah, what an evil way. The harms of fornication are not limited.
With Nikah, there is a protection from fornication and from its harms, and all praises are due to Allah. Nikah produces offspring. As for fornication then it is a loss. The offspring from fornication have no father and no lineage, and we seek refuge with Allah. Lost… This is from the disadvantages of fornication.
He (Allah) didn’t say don’t fornicate, he said don’t come close to it, ‘don’t come near to it’, i.e. stay away from the means that lead to fornication. Such as: looking, the seclusion with a man, the traveling of the woman by herself, her showing off her beauty. These are means that lead to falling into fornication. Allah has not allowed them, he has prohibited them.
If there is leniency in these means then fornication will take place. If there is leniency in these means then fornication will take place, because the desires are present. Desires are present between men and women. If they sat together and mixed then fornication is close. Shaytaan is present, if a man secluded himself with a woman, then shaytaan is the third one amongst them.
They say you have bad thoughts and that you are pessimists. We are not pessimists, this is the reality. This is the reality and if these means that Allah has prohibited are violated, then fornication will occur, no doubt.
Even the righteous man, the religious one, there is a danger upon him from the woman. Especially if she was beautiful and he secluded himself with her or traveled with her or she joined him at work. Or if she sat with him in the classroom, or in an exam, or in meetings. Or if she sat with him on the television, or on the radio, as his colleague, i.e. a presenter next to him, and she is beautified and he is a youth. Far is Allah from all imperfections. Do you bring petrol next to fire? Petrol is by itself and the fire is by itself. You bring her next to him! This is like that; no it is worse than petrol and fire.
Desires… we seek refuge with Allah, desires are strong. So for this reason Allah (the Exalted, Most High), has placed barriers that prevent falling in to fornication. If they are preserved, fornication is lessened or cut-off. If they are lost, then fornication will occur without a doubt. No matter what, even if they are religious or modest, the children of Adam are not saved from fornication except by the means that prevent it.
What would he do about the frequent thoughts which (he thinks) do not please Allaahu Ta’aalaa – Shaykh Saleh Fawzaan
What would he do about the frequent thoughts which (he thinks) do not please Allaahu Ta’aalaa
Answered by Shaykh Saleh Fawzaan
The questioner asks:
My thoughts often come to me in the things that are displeasing to Allaah and i always reproach myself from these thoughts and i say to myself this is from shaytaan, are the mankind accountable with it?
Shaykh Saleh Fawzaan says:
No, mankind is not accountable with it, (the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said) “My nation is forgiven for their mistakes and forgetfulness and the things that occur in their minds which they do not talk about or do” your state of hating to talk about it and stating it, this is a sign of faith and you should seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of shaytaan the accursed and you also have to reject those thoughts and avoid its interaction….Yes

Shaykh Fawzan: Keeping the ties of kinship has it affects in this life and the next. Thus if keeping the ties of kinship is from the reasons that extend the lifespan and increase the provision, then it is even more befitting to honor the parents because they are the closest of all the relatives. Therefore honoring the parents is a reason for Allah to extend your lifespan and increase your lifespan. And being undutiful to the parents is a reason for the lifespan to be shortened and a reason for the provision to be restricted. Just as honoring the parents is a reason for the lifespan to be extended and the provision to be increased. And the reward or punishment is from the same category as the action which was performed.
وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Nor will you be requited anything except that which you used to do
(Soorah Yasin 36:54)
What do you think about what has now appeared, unfortunately, in the Muslim community when the parents become elderly they are thrown in a convalescent home, or an old folk’s home as it is called. The child rids himself of them by placing his parents or one of his parents in an old folk’s home.
It is as though they are not their children; rather it is as though they are the parents of those who work at the old folk’s home.
Subhana Allah! Is this an animal or a person? There is no might or power except with Allah! This is the greatest form of disrespect. This would not be done by a person who has in their heart fear of Allah the Exalted.
How would you feel if your child did this to you?! When you age and become sick they take you and place you in a convalescent home, an old folk’s home. How would you feel? How angry would you be at them? And what would be the sin that he; your child, would incur? Why then do you demand the rights that are due to you but you do not want to give the rights which are required from you?!
Thus every Muslim must have taqwa of Allah. Disrespecting the parents has become widespread during this time, the hearts have hardened, and the relatives have become estranged.
And the customs of our enemies from the western lands and the disbelievers have come upon us; those who don’t have families or homes, except for a home that resembles the home of an animal. They get a home and they live alone or they live with dogs. As for them living with their parents or with their children, or with their brothers then no, this does not exist in most of the disbelieving lands.
Now some of the Muslims wish to imitate them; unfortunately. Thus they wish to throw their parents or one of their parents into the old folk’s home and to rid themselves of them.
And if he has some type of sentiment then perhaps he will come visit them on the Eid and give them salaams, merely visiting them. Or some days he will pass by and give them salaams. And he considers this to be sufficient in fulfilling his parents’ rights upon him.
Thus it is upon the Muslim to be mindful and to have tawqa of Allah; and he should understand that what he does to others will be done to him. And he will be taken to account for his actions. And he should not place anything before showing kindness to his parents except the obedience of Allah. For the one who desires a reward and recompense then do not place any action before kindness to the parents except for the rights of Allah the Exalted.
And with this; we ask Allah the Exalted by His beautiful Names and lofty Attributes to rectify the children and the offspring of the Muslims. And we ask Him to return the Muslims to the practice of Islam in the desired manner. And we ask Him to make the Muslims, families, who love each other and are content with one another and homes of righteousness. And we ask Him to make the Muslims far away from resembling the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and those who have destroyed and shattered the ties of kinship thus becoming like animals or even more astray. And there is no might or power except with Allah.
May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet, and his family and his companions.

Installing a Satellite Dish to Watch the News

Question:
O noble Shaykh there are numerous questions surrounding one topic here is one of the questions. What is the ruling on the person who installs a satellite dish in his home just for the news or to listen to Al Jazeera channel?
Shaykh Fawzan:
The news is obtained without a satellite dish, it can be obtained in the newspaper, it can be obtained on the radio, and it can be obtained on Saudi television that which is not on satellite. It is obtained without a satellite dish.
The satellite dish brings about evil upon him and upon others such as his children and his family. Thus its evil is greater than its benefit, if there is any benefit. The evil outweighs it. Thus do not install it in the home due to its pure evil or its preponderant evil.
And the affair is not limited to him, rather it will corrupt his family, all of them, the young and the old, except those whom Allah has mercy upon. And he is responsible for them. He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: The head of household is a shepherd and he is responsible for his flock. Who will question him? He will be questioned by Allah the Exalted on the Day of Judgment.
Thus it is not permissible for him to install a satellite dish in his home using the argument of watching the news. The news is obtained by many means that do not contain corruption.
And then, what is the news? Most of it is fraudulent and lies, so what will he benefit from it?
He destroys his home in order to get the news? The news, most of it is lies and most of it is incitement and evil. So he should not destroy his home and corrupt his family for the purpose of this false claim.
And the Al Jazeera channel has a great deal of evil; it contains a great deal of evil and incitement. And they bring people who fumble about in the affairs of the religion and in issues of jurisprudence. And they make impermissible what Allah has made permissible or they make permissible what Allah has made impermissible, in their verdicts. Thus this is a great evil to listen to and watch the Al Jazeera channel. Its evil is wide spread now and everything associated with it is evil, and no one praises it.
