Juha was from the Tabi’een not a cartoon character

Explained by Shaykh Muhammad Al Wasaabi

Translator’s note: This is referring to the famous Arabic children’s cartoon known as Juha.

The following is a summary translation:

Shaykh Al Wasaabi: The brother mentioned there is a benefit posted on Sahab.net under the title: ‘Juha was from the Tabi’een so preserve his honor.’

So it is mentioned under the title: Juha: (His name was) Dujayn ibn Thaabit Al Fazaaree may Allah have mercy upon him. He met and saw Anas ibn Malik—may Allah be pleased with him—and narrated from him. And Aslaam the freed slave of Umar ibn Al Khattab, and Hisham ibn U’rwa and Abdullah ibn Al Mubaarak and others narrated from him.

As Shirazi said: “Juha was his nickname.” And he was witty, and that which is said about him is a lie”.

Al Haafidh ibn A’skar said: “He lived for over one hundred years.”

And you will find all of this documented in a book entitled: “The Histories” by ibn Shaakir, on page 373.

And in the book entitled: “The scales of justice” by Ad Dhahabee, in the first volume page 326; that which he has documented.

Juha was from the Tabieen and his mother was a servant for Anas ibn Malik. And he was extremely tolerant and of pure integrity thus it is not befitting for anyone to mock him when they hear those comedic tales which have been attributed to him. As Suyooti said: “Most of the tales attributed to him have no origin.”

It has been transmitted by Ad Dhahabi in his biography that Ubaad ibn Suhayb said: “Abu Al Gusn (Juha) narrated to us and I have not seen one more intelligent than him.” And he also said about him: “Perhaps he would joke around during his youth, but when he became older he came into his own, and the scholars of Hadith narrated from him.

Al Haafidh ibn Al Jawzi—may Allah have mercy upon him said—: “And from them is Juha his Kunya is Abu Al Gusn, and it has been narrated concerning him that which proves his acumen and intelligence but they make him appear to be foolish.” And it was said some of those who had animosity towards him made up stories against him. And Allah knows best.

Therefore guard your tongue from speaking about Juha lest he be your adversary on the Day of Judgment. Juha’s nail, Juha’s goose, Juha and the donkey; everything about Juha, all on the back of Juha. And with Allah aid is sought.

O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger he has indeed achieved a great achievement.

(Soorah Al Ahzab 33: 70-71)

And with Allah aid is sought.
