Refutation of Maududi’s principle of Shirk in Haakimiyah by Shaykh SafiurRahman Mubarakpuri rahimahullah

Impressions of Shaykh Safiur Rahman Mubarakpooree about Maududi.

A view of Maududi upon which he stood with firmness and the truth is that he laid the foundation for his Jamaat (group, i.e Jamat e islami) upon this view. And presented this view with such strength that even great scholars were influenced by him and they even accepted it, even though they did not enter him Jamaat, but they were influenced by his thoughts and accepted them. When these views came before me, even I was confused for a few days. But after that Allaah Ta’la opened this matter (mas’ala) in such a clear way that no type of doubt or confusion remained . Now I will present it before you, then there will be no doubt or confusion for you too Insha’Allaah. So clearly Allaah Ta’ala has opened it.

The view of Maulana (Maududi) was that if there is continuous following (Ita’ah) of someone, then this is the worship (Ibadah) of that person .the Muslim is in continuous following (Ita’ah) of Allaah Ta’ala and he follow (Ita’ah) the Prophet SalAllaahu alaihiwasallam because Allaah Ta’ala ordered to follow him. Thus the following (Ita’ah) of the Prophet salAllaahu alaihiwasallam is in accordance to the following (Ita’ah) of Allaah Ta’ala, therefore when he SalAllaahu alaihiwasallam is followed it is the following of Allaah Ta’ala and this worship (Ibaadah) becomes the  worship (Ibaadah) of Allaah. Now from here he (Maududi) has raised another problem that if a government does not govern according to the law laid by Allaah Ta’ala then following that government will be worshipping  that government and this is Shirk. And this is where he (Maududi) took his view of Shirk in Haakimiyyah and presented it strongly, and many a people are busy in it till date. Now I will present its truth before you, I mean t say that books of about a hundered, two hundred, three hundred, four hundred, six hundred and in some cases eight hundred pages have been written by many people on this topic. The matter has been confused in such a way and with such long debates that it becomes difficult to imagine. That is why I present this matter before you in a few clear and firm way.

Shaikh Hammaad al-Ansaaree’s encounter with Maududi

May 20, 2011 1 comment

Shaikh Hammaad al-Ansaaree’s encounter with Maududi:

I visited Maududi (Abul-A’laa Al-Maududi) along with some brothers during the course of his stay in Riyadh and he was in the hotel ‘bat-haa’ so we entered upon him and he was praying the ‘Asr prayer, so I began observing his prayer. So when he finished I said to him:

‘This prayer of yours needs reviewing, for you do not raise your hands, nor do you relax (be at ease) and other than that’

So he said: ‘I am Hanafee in Madhhab’.

So I said to him: ‘this is more overwhelming than the first; since it is impermissible for you to say that, and you are above such a statement. We had come to think from your writings that you are a free-thinker[1], but it has become apparent to us that you are a constricted thinker.’ Then I said to him: ‘indeed Imaam Aboo Haneefah is the one that you blindly follow; yet who are the ones that Imaam Aboo Haneefah blindly followed?’

He remained silent, and Allaah’s Aid is sought.

Refutation of: “Take the good and leave the bad”

Refutation of the feeble argument, “Take the good and leave the bad” -  by Abul Hasan Maalik al-Akhdar

Excerpts:

Yes the truth is to be accepted from whoever says it, and the Salafus Saalih did not abstain from accepting the truth, and with that  they never said, ‘take  the truth that is found in the books of the people of innovation and leave the falsehood.’ . Rather they proclaimed with their loudest voice to leave them all together. Rather they made their destruction obligatory, and that is because the truth that is present in the books of the people of innovation can be found in the Book and the Sunnah and therefore it is obligatory to take it from its original source which is not contaminated with filth nor innovation, since it is the spring that is pure, and the water that is fresh.

An example of that: Two wells of water, one of them pure and clean and the other muddy filled with dirt and filth, so does one with intellect say: `Go to the second well and take from its water.’ The one with intellect does not say this.

So what if there was found one who was deterring people from the pure spring and calling the people to drink from the muddy well filled with dirt and filth…”

“And the Messenger of Allaah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam warned against reading the writings of the People of the Book even though they are not free of some truth.

On the authority of Jaabir bin Abdillah who said that Umar bin al-Khattaab came to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam with a writing that he had gotten from one of the People of the Book and he became angry and said: `Are you in doubt O Ibn al-Khattaab?! By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! I have come to you with that which is clear, do not ask them about anything so that they speak the truth and you deny it, or they speak falsehood and you believe it, and by the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if Moosa was alive, he would have to follow me.’[1]

And Shayhkul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said,

`It is hated for the one who does not have the ability to critique and distinguish (between truth and falsehood) to look in the books that have a number of fabricated narrations, and misguided opinions like the books of the people innovation, and it is hated to take knowledge from the Qassaas (storytellers) and their likes who tell many lies in their speech, even if they speak much of the truth’.” [End of quote, See an-Najm al-Baadee p. 27]

The statement of Ibn Taymiyyah sheds much light on this issue where he mentions that even if there is much truth to be found in their speech, it is mixed with lies and fabrications and therefore the one who does not have the ability to distinguish between truth and falsehood, Sunnah and Bid’ah, will become lost and become like the one who gathers wood at night! He will gather along with the wood, trash, dirt, and everything else that is present, as he does not have the ability of discernment.

Khaalid adh-Dhufairee in his book Ijmaa al-Ulemaa alal Hajr wat-Tahdheer min Ahlil Ahwaa (The Consensus of the Scholars Upon the Abandonment and Warning from the People of Desires) mentions in the chapter: `The methodology of the people of the Sunnah in dealing with the books of the people of innovation‘:

“Indeed from the calamities that have spread in these times, and its evil and harm have spread are those books that are filled with innovations, superstitions, and the calls to newly invented methodologies, for these innovated books have been a strong means for every innovator to spread his innovation and misguidance amongst the people and to beautify them so as to make its spread easier.

But there remains a question that needs answering and it is: “What is the path to safety from these books and to save the people of the Sunnah from them?

The path, it is the following the way of the Salafus Saalih in their dealings with the books of the people of desires and innovation. Their way was warning against these books, and leaving off looking into them, and warning from their authors, rather they ruled with the obligation of destroying these books and burning them.

And this is not oppression, rather it is the essence of justice since oppression is leaving these books filled with innovations and misguidance without warning or clarifying what is in them of falsehood, because of which many people become misguided and follow innovated methodologies that are in opposition to the Book and the Sunnah.

Our Sheikh, the carrier of the banner of criticism and praise in these times, Abu Muhammad Rabeeus Sunnah ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee hafidhahullaah, said in explanation of this issue on the cassette titled Manhaj Ahlis-Sunnah, that is found on the website of our noble brothers at `www.troid.org’ hafidhahumallaah:

“So we advise the youth and the elders, and other than them from the Muslims that Allaah has opened their breasts to the truth, and adhering to it, to remain firm upon the straight way and to advise one another to remain firm upon this truth and this path, and not to expose themselves to the affairs of straying that has affected so many from those who the people of innovation and desires have drawn into looking into the books of falsehood and misguidance and listening to the cassettes that call to desires and innovations, with the argument that they will listen and read and whatever is from the truth they will accept it, and whatever is from falsehood they will reject. But in reality they are in the position of the one who does not have the ability to distinguish between truth and falsehood, Sunnah and innovation, between Tawheed and Shirk. So they fall into misguidance, straying, and innovation, and many from this kind become enemies to the truth and enemies of the people of truth.

Hanging the du’aa for travel in a car

May 19, 2011 1 comment

Qn41: Is it permissible to hang the supplication of the traveller (du’aa of travelling) in the car so the people who haven’t memorised it yet can read it?

Ans.41: First of all, do not do this and may Allaah bless you. I don’t know of any of the Salafus-Saalih who used to hang the supplications. Secondly, try hard to memorise the supplications as there is barakah (blessing) in that and a great reward you will get from Allaah ‘Azza wa Jal. These supplications are means of worshipping Allaah so their memorisation is worship in itself. Hanging the supplication is demeaning them; so if you fear not being able to memorise them, then place them in your pocket, or the glove compartment of your car so you can read them when you wish, and return them to their place when you have finished reading them.

Prohibition of Using Names Like: Abdul-Naby, Ghulam Ahmad, Ghulam Mustafa

None of Allah’s creatures is permitted to enslave any person of the slaves of Allah to other than Him. Therefore, it is not permissible to name somebody `Abdul-Fadeel, `Abdul-Naby, `Abdul-Rasul, `Abd Aly, `Abdul-Husayn, `Abdul-Zahra’, Ghulam Ahmad, Ghulam Mustafa, or any other name which implies enslaving a created being to another. This is because such names involve excessive reverence of pious and prominent people, and therefore, impudence against the Right of Allah (Exalted be He),and a means to Shirk (associating others with Allah in His Divinity or worship) and transgression. Moreover, Ibn Hazm narrated the consensus of scholars regarding the prohibition of using names that imply enslaving people to other than Allah (Exalted be He).

Bearing the name “Ghulam Al-Rasul”

Q: In brief, some one was granted Saudi nationality under his name, i.e. ghulamul-Rasul (lit. Servant of the Messenger). However, he does not feel comfortable with this name and wishes to change it unless it is permissible to be called as such.

A: Apparently, Ghulam according to the dilaect of those who name their children as such means servant. Thus, Ghulamul-Rasul means Servant (worshipper) of the Messenger. It is well-known that names such as Abdul-Rahman (lit. Servant of the Merciful), Abdullah (lit. Servant of Allah) and the like symbolizes the servant’s attachment to his Lord in the aspects of worship and submissiveness. Accordingly, a Muslim may not be called Servant of the Messenger, or the like, as it entails Shirk (associating others in worship with Allah). Therefore, the one seeking the fatwa must go to the proper authorities to change his name to a valid one.

May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions!

The following is taken from : Taqwiyat-ul-Iman by Shah Ismail Shaheed (Rahmatullah Alehi)

The acts leading to polytheism:

In difficult times and situations people call upon saints, Prophets, Imam, martyrs, angels and fairies for assistance; make their vows to them, invoke them for the fulfillment of their wishes and even make so-called offerings to them so that their wishes may come true. To avoid ailments, they have no scruples about attributing their sons to those false deities by giving them such names as Abdun-Nabi, Ali Bakhsh, Hussain Bakhsh, Peer Bakhsh, Madar Bakhsh, Salar Bakhsh, Ghulam Muhiuddin and Ghulam Moinuddin etc. Someone raises a plait of hair in the name of a deity, someone slaughters an animal in their names, someone invokes them in a distressed situation and someone swears an oath in their names. This means that the way non-Muslims treat their gods and goddesses, these so-called Muslims also give exactly a similar treatment to the Prophets, saints, Imam, martyrs, angels and fairies. Despite committing all the above sinful acts, they still claim to be Muslims. As Allah has rightfully said:

“And most of them believe not in Allah except that they attribute partners unto Him.” (V.12: 106)

Aa’id al-Qarni’s recantations from some of his errors

AsSalam Alaikum, Please check the red clour text below

The translation of the book of shaykh fawzaan Al-Ajwibah al-Mufidah compiled by Jamal bin Farihan al-Harithi states on page 40-41

…So I say: Subhanallaah! How has he granted himself the right to place the True Salafi Manhaj amongst these other methodologies (manahij) and astray, innovative deviant sects?

And our question to this person who actually lives in the land of Tawhid – and who holds a Masters degree in Hadith – is if a person is not a Salafi then what is he?

And the ‘Allaamah, ‘Abdul-‘Aziz Ibn Baz – the [former] mufti of Saudi Arabia was asked: What do you say about the one who calls himself ‘Salafi’ or ‘Athari’? Is this is a tazkiyah (purification) of his own self?

So he replied – may Allaah have mercy upon him – “When he is being truthful [in his claim] that he is Salafi or Athari then there is not harm in that, [this is] similar to what the Salaf used to say, ‘So and so is a Salafi’, ‘So and so is Athari’ as a tazkiyah (commendation) which was necessary, a tazkiyah that is obligatory.” [Cassette: Haqq ul-Muslim 16/1/1413 Ta’if]

Note –  After completing this book some papers reached me which contained some of Aa’id al-Qarni’s recantations from some of his errors. I found that amongst them was his recantation of this grave error. It is from justice that we mention this particular one: “Fourteen: I had said in a cassette, ‘Whoever makes it obligatory upon the people that he should be an Ikhwani or a Salafi or a Tablighi or a Sururi, then his repentance should be sought. Either he repents or he is to be killed.’ This is an error that emanated from me and I seek Allaah’s forgiveness from it. What I meant was that whoever did that, then he has legislated (into the religion). However, it is an error regardless and I pardon myself from it. I believe that the madhhab of the Salaf is the correct madhhab and it is the one that is obligatory for the people to follow, to be guided by it and to traverse its path.”

And Shaikh Bakr Abu Zaid said, “And when it is said, ‘Salaf’ or ‘the Salafis’ or ‘Salafiyyah’ then this is an ascription to the Salaf us-Salih, all of the Sahabah – may Allaah be pleased with them. So whoever followed them in goodness, and not those who were led astray with desires… And those who were firm upon the methodology (minhaj) of Prophethood were associated (by others) to the Salaf us-Salih. Hence it was said to them, [that they are], ‘the Salaf’, ‘the Salafis’ and an ascription to them [being the word] ‘Salafi’. So upon this, the word Salaf means, the Salaf us-Salih (the Righteous Predecessors). And this word when it is applied generally means everyone who guides himself by the Sahabah – may Allaah be pleased with them – even if he was in this modern time of ours. It is like this, and this is what the sayings of the People of Knowledge are agreed upon. Therefore, this is an ascription which does not have any aspect which departs from the requirements of the Book and the Sunnah. Rather it is an ascription which does not depart, even for one moment, from the very first generation [of Muslims]. It is from them and returns to them. As for the one who opposes them with a particular name or custom, then no, even if he lived amongst them and in their time.” [Hukm ul-Intimaa p.36].
