Is it permissible for a woman to slaughter an animal?

The Ruling on a Woman’s Slaughter

Question:
Is it permissible for a woman to slaughter an animal? And is it permissible to eat from it?

Answer:

It is permissible for a woman to slaughter an animal, the same as a man, as has been confirmed by the Sunnah from the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. It is permissible to eat from the animal she has slaughtered, if she is a Muslim or one of the People of the Scripture and the animal was slaughtered according to the Islamic Law, even if a man was available to do it for her. It is not a condition for the permissibility of her sacrificial animal that there be no man present.

Blessed Days [First 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah]

Significance & Virtues of the Day of Arafah

November 6, 2010 4 comments

Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for two years. :

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of ’Arafah, since it is on this day that the pilgrims gather at the mountain plain of ’Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord. It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on this day, since the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on the day of ’Arafah, so he said, “It expiates the sins (Minor) of the past year and the coming year.” [Muslim (no. 1162)]

Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d.275H) – rahimahullaah – said, “The People of Knowledge consider it recommended to fast on the day of ’Arafah, except for those at ’Arafah.” [Muslim (no. 1348)]

Allah frees slaves from the fire on Arafat more than any other day

Likewise, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is no day on which Allaah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He revels before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.” [Jaami’ut-Tirmidhee (3/377)]

Forgiveness of the Sins even if they are like the foam on the Sea

As for you staying till the evening in Arafah, then Allaah descends to the sky of the Duniya and He boasts about you to the Angels, and says: ‘My slaves have come to Me, looking rough, from every deep valley hoping for My mercy, so if your sins were equivalent to the amount of sand or the drops of rain or like the foam on the sea I will forgive them. So go forth My slaves! Having forgiveness and for what or who you have interceded for.’

[Reported by at-Tabarani in his book “al-Kabeer” and by al-Bazaar. Shaykh Al-Albani graded it Hassan. Taken from ‘Saheeh al-Targheeb wa Tarheeb’. Volume 2, Page 9-10, hadeeth no. 1112]

It is the day on which the religion was perfected and Allaah’s Favour was completed.

In Al-Saheehayn it was reported from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) that a Jewish man said to him, “O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, there is an aayah in your Book which you recite; if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid (festival).” ‘Umar said, “Which aayah?” He said: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [al-Maa’idah 5:3 – interpretation of the meaning]. ‘Umar said, “We know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was when he was standing in ‘Arafaah on a Friday.”

Allaah expresses His pride to His angels

It was reported from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of ‘Ishaa’ on the Day of ‘Arafaah, about the people of ‘Arafaah. He says, ‘Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.’”

Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

Allah Swears by these 10 Days , odd and even

Allah swears by these days.
1. By the dawn;
2. By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah),
3. And by the even and the odd . [ Fajr 1-3 ]

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘ The ten are the ten days of Dhul- Hijjah and the odd is the Day of Arafah and the even is the Eid [ Ahmed 3/ 327 and Bazzar 2286] Ibn Rajab graded the isnad of this hadeeth as being Hasan.

The standing on ‘Arafaat is the hajj.

The standing on ‘Arafaat is the hajj. The crowds should remind you of the Day of Resurrection. Humble yourself to Allaah, manifest your ‘uboodiyyah to Him Alone through du’aa, sincere intention and strong determination to free yourself from the sins of the past and to build up a commitment to rush for doing what is good. Think of becoming a better person when you return. Rid yourself of false pride and showing off because it may ruin what you gain on this day.

Beneficial Speech from Ibnul-Qayyim Concerning Mixing Between Men and Women

November 1, 2010 1 comment

Ibnul-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy upon him) said in At-Turuq Al-Hakeemah (1/406-408):

And from that, is that it is obligatory upon the ruler to prevent the mixing of men and women in the marketplaces, (public) areas and gatherings of men. Maalik (may Allah have mercy upon him and be pleased with him) said: “I hold that it is for the Imaam to give priority to scrutinizing the goldsmiths (who are) sitting in the gatherings of women. And I hold that he should not leave the young woman to sit with the goldsmiths. As for the woman of high rank and the man who is a lowly servant, (the woman) having no (reason to have) concern for the gathering and he (the servant) does not care who sits with him, then I do not see a prohibitive problem with that.”

The Imaam will be asked about that; and the fitnah in it is great. He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “I have not left behind a fitnah more harmful upon the men than women.” And in another Hadeeth: “Separate the men and women.” And in another Hadeeth, he said to the women: “You should be on the outer borders of the path.”

It is obligatory upon him (the ruler) to prevent the women from going out beautified and wearing make-up.  And he must prevent them from wearing clothing in which they are Kaasyaat ‘Aariyaat (Clothed but Naked at the same time); such as clothing that is loose and flimsy. He should prevent them from speaking to men in the streets and he should (likewise) prevent the men from that. And if the ruler sees that it causes corruption to the woman that she, adorns herself with makeup, beautifies herself or her clothing with dye or the likes, then some of the jurists have permitted with regards to that, and they were correct, that he may confine the woman (to her home) if she frequently goes out of her house; and that is the least of the monetary punishments; especially if she goes out wearing make-up. Rather, silent agreement of the women upon that is considered to be aiding in sin and disobedience; and Allah will question the ruler concerning that. The Chief of the Believers, ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him), prevented the women from walking in the pathways of men and mixing with them in the streets. So it is upon the ruler to follow his example in that.

Al-Khallaal said in his Al-Jaami’: “Muhammad ibn Yahyaa Al-Kahhaal informed me that he told my father, ‘Abdullah, ‘I see the evil man with the woman (i.e. I see that it is the evil man who mixes freely with women)’ He said: He has spoken correctly with it (this statement).’ And the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) informed me (Thus as is in Ash-Shaamilah) that the woman who perfumes herself and goes out of her house is a fornicatress. And he forbade the woman from attending Salatul-‘Ishaa in the Masjid if she has scented herself with incense.”

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “When the woman goes out the Shaytaan accompanies her.” There is no doubt that allowing for the women to mix freely with the men is the origin of every trial and evil; and it is from the greatest reasons for the descending of punishment which is general (encompassing everyone) just as it is from the reasons for corruption of the general and specific affairs. Mixing between men and women is the reason for increase of Fawaahish (lewdness) and fornication; and it is from the reasons for general death and contagious diseases. When the prostitutes mixed with the hosts of Moosaa and began to commit acts of Faahishah (prostitution) amongst them, Allah sent the diseases to them so that in one day 70,000 people died. And the story is well known in the books of tafseer.

So from the greatest reasons for general death is the abundance of az-Zinaa (fornication) brought about by allowing women to mix freely with men and walk amongst them beautified wearing make-up. If the rulers knew what that contained from corruption of the Dunyaa and the people under their custody with regards to the religion, then they would be the most stern in the prevention of that.

‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “When az-Zinaa spreads in a village then Allah permits its destruction.”

Ibn Abid-Dunyaa said: Ibraheem ibnul-Ash’ab told us: ‘Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Zayd al-‘Amaa told us, on the authority of his father, from Sa’eed ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbaas who said: Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “A people have never shorted (others) in their measurements nor reduced their weights except that Allah ‘Azz wa Jal has prevented them from expansion. And fornication has not spread amongst a people except that death has spread amongst them (as well). And the act of the people of Loot has not appeared amongst a people except that ignominy spreads amongst them. And a people have not abandoned commanding the good and forbidding the evil except that their actions are not raised up (to Allah) and their supplications are not responded to.”

And may prayers and peace from Allah be upon his Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.

Principles that are Obligatory for the Salafee to Know – Shaykh Ahmad Baazmool

November 1, 2010 Leave a comment
The noble Shaykh Ahmad Baazmool covers numerous principles of the Salafee manhaj pertaining to issues of al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel, warning against the innovators, accepting the jarh (disparagement) of the Scholars and much more  The lecture was translated by our brother, Anwar Ibn ‘Aarif Wright – a graduate from the Islamic University of al-Madeenah – may Allaah preserve him. Talk translated by Anwar Ibn Arif Wright – sunnahpublishing.net

Source for the below: Posted by Umm Mujahida As Salafiyyahon west-london_dawah group

(I made notes on the main points but it’s not word for word).

When you’re warning against a person it’s because he is opposing the manhaj (of the salaf) and so you advise him until he repents. This person is at a stage where he has to be avoided and he needs to be advised with the truth. Know the truth and you will know its people. He is in a stage where the scholars have yet to declare him an innovator, he is being advised so he will either accept the truth or deny it.

You may be deceived by him so you have to stay away from him until the ulama say more about him. As for someone speaking ill of the people of the Sunnah, then he is actually speaking ill of the Sunnah so he is a misguided innovator. We love and hate for Allah and this is a principle in boycotting and this is walaa wal baraa. Some people say salafis are harsh, but harshness is if they criticized without valid reasons. Shaykh Rabee advises before he refutes the innovators, the shaykh is just.

If you refute someone without proofs, that’s dhulm (oppression). But when Shaykh Rabee Hadee al-Madkhalee refutes innovators, he has proof by quoting from the innovators’ own books and tapes, which reveal their innovations. Shaykh Rabee is past 80 years old and has refuted about 20 people in his lifetime so far.

Compared to the Salaf (early Muslim scholars), this isn’t much because they refuted 100s or 1,000s of people yet some still accuse Shaykh Rabee of being harsh. When Shaykh Rabee refuted the innovators, you wont find any other salafi scholars saying he was wrong, so they agreed with him too. And if there were some scholars who didn’t agree with him, you will find that after some time they returned to Shaykh Rabee’s opinion.

Scholars are of different levels: some more involved in fiqh, some more in refuting bid’ah, some more in arabic grammer. You can’t reject the scholar who refutes with proof just because other mashayikh are quiet on the issue. These mashayikh did not turn to address this fitan. And just because they’re quiet, doesnt mean they agree with the fitan/trial of an innovator.

If a certain shaykh hasn’t spoken about an innovator, maybe he doesnt know his condition as well as the other shaykh who did. The latter looked into the issue in more depth. Even if there was a difference amongst scholars over an innovator, you follow the proof and return to the truth. You are sinning if you follow falsehood, using as an excuse that you follow that shaykh instead.

For example, if a doctor came who specialises in heart surgery spoke about a cure and another general doctor came and spoke, the common folk would give precedence to the speech of the doctor who was a specialist in that field. So likewise, when you want to know about the innovators, you would go the shaykh who has more knowledge of the field than the rest of the scholars because he specialised in this.

Someone asked about the Jordian mashayikh so I said to them – you should fear Allah. The Jordians aren’t scholars but are students of ilm because they are less in their age and ilm. So to say they are mashayikh is dhulm.

What we mean when we say 2 scholars are contemporaries is that when they are close in age and in knowledge.

If someone falls into a mistake by purpose and it’s clarified to him yet he persists then you can critisize that person. This is different to the case of a person who makes a mistake inadvertently.

If some scholars have refuted innovators, this suffices the other scholars from doing so because it’s fard ul kifayah. Even if only 1 scholar refutes with proofs and the rest remain quiet, then this is sufficient. You don’t require a group of scholars to refute, this is the khalafi manhaj.

If a scholar criticizes someone, you can quote his statements to the people. And if they don’t accept the statement of the scholars, then they wont accept it from you!  The beginner student of ilm should not declare people innovators, this is for the scholars or those students of ilm who are qualified. Don’t precede the scholars in these affairs. Do not enter into debating.
