Oh Turner of the Hearts keep our Hearts firm on Your Religion

Salih Luhaydan mentioned a nice benefit during his class tonight at the Haram in Makkah(7/2/2009). He mentioned that, ” If you come across someone performing an innovation, remember to praise Allah, the Most high. Remember to praise Allah, the Most High, because he hasn’t tested you with that innovation. “

He also mentioned that, “No one is safe from misguidance. So remember to constantly ask Allah to keep you on the straight path.”

A du’aa that he mentioned pertaining to this is:

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ

Yaa Muqallibal Quloob Thabbit Qalbee ‘alaa Deenik.

Oh turner of the hearts (Allah, the Most High), keep our hearts firm on your religion

If Allaah wills, He can seal the heart from guidance. Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin al-‘Aas said, that he heard Allaah’s Messenger saying, “All the hearts of the offspring of Aadam are between two fingers of Ar-Rehman’s Fingers, as one heart. He turns it (in any direction) as He wills. Then Allaah’s Messenger said, “O Allaah! The Turner of the hearts, turn our heart towards Your obedience.” [Saheeh Muslim vol.4, p.1397, no.6418]

The Importance of supplicating for steadfastness, and uprightness in the religion upto the end of one’s life.

Indeed the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to do so, and taught us to do so, as in the hadeeth of Umm Salamah by Shihr who said : ‘I said to Umm Salamah : ‘O Mother of the Believers, what is the duaa’ which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) would supplicate the most while in your presence? ’

So she said : ‘The frequent supplication of his was :

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ

“O, Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Your obedience.”

And also reported by Imaam Ahmad , from the hadeeth of ‘Aisha (radhiyaAllaahu anha): ‘The Dua’ which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to supplicate with a lot…’ then she mentioned it.

The Difference between a Masjid and a Mussala

March 16, 2010 1 comment
The Difference between a Masjid and a Mussala

Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked,” What is the difference between a masjid and a mussala? What are the regulations for the masjid? And what if people call the Athan and pray the five daily prayers at a mussala, could it be considered a masjid? Answer: The entire earth is considered a masjid in the general meaning of the word. However the specific meaning for masjid is a place purposely built for prayers to be held at all times. A masjid is a place specifically built for prayer. It can be built by stone, mud, or cement. Even if the place is designated to be a masjid and it isn’t complete, but intended to be a masjid its a masjid.

The mussala on the other hand is a place that person conducts his prayers at sometimes. This place isn’t considered a masjid. He only prays there when the prayer comes in (and he can’t make it to the masjid). The proof for a mussala can be found in the Prophet’s action(peace and blessings be upon him). He used to pray his supererogatory in his house, and his house wasn’t a masjid. Also Utban ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to his home , so he could pray in the place Utban used to pray. That place at Utban’s home wasn’t a masjid. Therefore a mussala is a place where people conduct their prayers, and this place isn’t designed to be a masjid. Additionally, the people who pray there know it’s a mussala.[ Majmu’ fatawa of Uthaymeen 15/ 72]

Additional points of benefit for this subject:

1. ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be on him), commanded that Masajid be built in villages, and that they be kept clean and perfumed.” [ Abu Dawud 455 hadeeth
da’eef] Al-Bagawee said: “ This hadeeth shows that a place isn’t a masjid because it’s called a masjid. It’s a masjid when the owner of the place dedicates it be a masjid. And when it becomes a majsid he loses all ownership. [ Sharhus Sunnah 2/ 400]

2. The Eid Mussala . Do the same verdicts which apply to the masjid apply to the Eid Mussala? And is the Eid Mussala considered a masjid? There are two positions for this issue;

A: It isn’t a masjid, but it has the same rulings for a masjid. Rulings like a clean place for the prayer, lining up straight, and following the imam. This is the view of the majority of the ulema. They hold this position because congregational prayers aren’t regularly held in the Eid Mussala. And any place where the five daily prayers aren’t held isn’t considered a masjid.

B: The Eid Mussala is a masjid ,if the owner endowed it. Therefore the Eid Mussala has same rulings a masjid does. i.e It’s prohibited to buy and sell inside , and menstruating woman can’t enter. This is the view of the Hambali school of thought.

Ibn Muflih said:” The correct view for the Eid Mussala is its a masjid. This is based on the hadeeth. “ Umm Atiyah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to bring out on Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, young women, hijab-observing adult women and the menstruating women. The menstruating women stayed out of actual Salaat but participated in good deeds and Duaa (supplication).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the menstruating women to stay out of the actual Mussala. Hence the Eid Mussala is a masjid and has the same verdicts a masjid does. And if it weren’t a masjid, he wouldn’t have ordered them to stay away from the area for prayer.[ Al-Furu' by ibn Muflih]

The majority of the scholars answer this by saying the the command for the menstruating women to stay away was so they could be recognized and not soil the mussala. Using the hadeeth from Um Atiyah (may Allah be pleased with her) to show the Eid Mussala is a masjid isn’t clear -cut. Rather, what’s closer in meaning is the command for the menstruating women to stay away from the mussala only applies to the actual prayer. If the mensing women sit behind or close to women who are praying then there is no harm in that action. However they mustn’t sit in the actual area for prayer

The opinion that the Eid Mussala is a masjid when a person endows it for prayer, is strong. There is no difference between Eid Prayer or the five daily prayers. and based on this view a person prays two rak’ah when he enters the Eid Mussala. [ Ahkamu Hudurul Masajid by Abdullah ibn Salih Fawzan page 14]

3. The Mussala for the funeral prayer isn’t a masjid. the funeral prayer doesn’t consist of Ruku, or Sajud. [ Ahkamu Hudurul Masajid by Abdullah ibn Salih Fawzan page 14]

Allah the Most High knows best and to Him I repent.

A Woman’s Strong Determination to Repent !!! Inspiring Read

It was reported on the authority of Hassan Al Basree (Rahimahullah), who was one of the scholars from the Ta’bieen:

There was a prostitute who had a third of the beauty of Adam (Alaihis salam). She would not allow anyone to have sexual relations with her unless it was for 100 dinars. There was a slave boy who saw her one day and her beauty amazed him so much that he went and worked and toiled with his own two hands until he collected 100 dinars. So he went to her and said:  “Your beauty amazed me so much that I went and worked and toiled with my own two hands and immediately collected 100 dinars!” So she said to him: “Enter!” So he entered and to his amazement she had a bed made of gold. He said: “So I sat on her bed and she said to me: “Come on!” So when he sat between her legs he remembered his standing in front of Allah!! His heart began to tremble and quiver and he said to her: “Let me leave and you can keep the money!!” She said to him: “What is wrong with you?! You were the one who said that you saw me and my beauty amazed you so you worked and toiled hard and quickly with your bare hands until you collected 100 dinars and now that you have the ability to take what is rightfully yours this is what you do?!!! “

So he said: “I am afraid of Allah and my standing in front of Him! I was once the most hated person to you (because he was a poor slave) and now you are the most hated person to me!” (because he now realizes the sin she is allowing him to commit) So she said: “If you are honest in what you say, then you are the only husband for me!” So he said: “Let me leave!” So she said: “No! Not until you marry me?!” So he said: “No! Not until you allow me to leave!” So she said: “If you leave and I go out in search of you, do you promise that if I find you, you will marry me?” So he said: “Perhaps!” So she let his garment go, he left and returned to his city. She set out in search of him remorseful and repentant for what she had done until she found the city where he resided. She asked around town about his whereabouts and she was directed towards where he lived. So someone said to him in passing:

إن الملكة قد جاء!
“The queen has come!” (He said this because her clothing and demeanor spoke that of a queen)

So when he saw her he cried so profusely and began to gag and gasp for air (as he never expected to see her again and now to his amazement, believed that she was a queen!) and he died while falling into her arms!  So she said:

أما هذا فقد فاتني فهل له من قريب؟
“As for him, I have lost this one! Does he have any relatives?

So it was said to her:
له أخ فقير!
“He has a brother but he is poor!”

So she said with all candor and sincerity:

فأتزوجه حبا لأخيه!
“Thus I will marry him because of my love for his brother!!” (keep in mind they still believe that she is the queen!)

So she married him.

Translator’s Note: This narration is taken from a book called Hilyat ul Awliyaa by Abu Nu’aim Al Asbahani (Rahimahullah) and it is a book filled with narrations about amazing events during the time of the Salaf. Some of these narrations may not be authentic or we may not know the authenticity of them, however the scholars use them in the realm of what is called At Targheeb wat Tarheeb (i.e. encouragement (to be obedient to Allah) and discouragement (from disobedience to Allah) and they have stipulated 4 conditions for using these narrations and I will provide them below for the reader’s clarification:

The First: The narration can not be used to establish and/or substantiate a legislative Islamic ruling. As the Islamic rulings in Islam are established and/or supported by authentic unequivocal and concrete texts from the Qur’an, Authentic Sunnah and the Ijma’a (i.e. Consensus) of the Sahabah and the Salaf us Salih (i.e. Righteous Predecessors)

The Second: The narration can not be attributed to the Prophet (Sallahu alaihi wa salam) or the narrator unless the Isnad (i.e. chain of narrators) is affirmed by those scholars who are proficient in that respective field. So thats why the scholars will say when narrating these types of narrations “It was reported….” Or “it was mentioned about…” but they will never say such and such said.

The Third: The class of the narration has to be clarified when quoted so as not to mislead the reader and/or listener to believe that it is authentic if it is not authentic.

The Fourth: It can only be used in the realm of what the scholars call At Targheeb wat Tarheeb, as it was mentioned before.

Whosoever The Qur’Aan And The Sunnah Does Not Suffice,Then May Allaah Not Suffice Him

Whosoever The Qur’Aan And The Sunnah Does Not Suffice,Then May Allaah Not Suffice Him
(Man-Lam Yakfih Alqur’Aan Was-Sunnah Falaa Kafaahul-Allaah)

By Shaykh Ahmed al-Wasaabee Class 43 of Lessons on Tawhid

Translation Of The Text In Al-Qawl-Ul-Mufeed Fee Adillatit Tawheed:

Benefit (Faa’idah):
al-‘Allaamah Ibnul-Qayyim has mentioned in Zaad al-Ma’aad: 4/352:

His (ta’aalaa) statement:
Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’aan) which is recited to them? (Al-’Ankaboot 29:51)

Then he said: ((Whosoever the Qur’aan does not heal, then may Allaah not heal him. And whosoever the Qur’aan does not suffice, then may Allaah not suffice him)) [Faman lam Yashfih al- Qur’aan, Falaa Shafaahul-Allaah, wa man lam Yakfih Falaa Kafaahul-Allaah]. End of quote.

And Aboo Ibraaheem [2] said: Whosoever the Book and the Sunnah does not suffice, then may Allaah not suffice him. And whosoever the Book and the Sunnah does not satisfy, then may Allaah not satisfy him [Wa man lam Yakfih al-Kitaab was-Sunnah Falaa Kafaahul-Allaah, wa man lam Yaqna’ bil-Kitaab was-Sunnah Falaa Aqna’hul-Allaah].

EXPLANATION OF THE TEXT BY SHAYKH AHMED AL-WASAABEE (HAFIDHAHULLAAH):

We find many of the people of innovation following the statements of their leaders in misguidance, and beautifying this to themselves and to the people, and leaving off the guidance of the Kitaab and the Sunnah. So the phrases that are mentioned in this chapter are supplications against these people and their likes, from the people of innovations and desires, those who are not satisfied, and do not find comfort in the Kitaab and the Sunnah, then these are supplications against them.

Teaching a Sunnah is more superior than two hundred years of Worship

(Aboo ‘Uthmaan said),

“I found in the book of the Shaikh, the Imaam, my grandfather, aboo ‘Abdullaah Muhammad ibn ‘Adee Hamdawaih as-Saaboonee (rahimahullaah ta’aala), Abul-’Abbaas, al-Hasan ibn Sufyaan an-Nasawee informed us that al-’Abbaas ibn Sabeeh narrated to them (saying): ‘Abdul-Jabbaar ibn Taahir narrated to us (saying): Ma’mar ibn Raashid narrated to me (saying): I heard Ibn Shihaab az-Zuhree saying,

“Teaching a sunnah is more superior than two hundred years of worship.”

Usool-u-Sunnah by Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahimahullaah), Chapter Six: The Distinguishing Signs of Ahlus-Sunnah

Comments from Abul-’Abbaas Moosaa ibn John Richardson (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia):

Meaning: 200 years of individual worship, like optional fasting and praying, since those deeds are for the one who performs them, and the reward for them would not increase over time, in contrast to someone who teaches a sunnah.  Teaching a sunnah is also a kind of worship, yet its reward is multiplied over time based on the number of people who practice what they learn, call to it, and teach it to others.

So there is no specification of a reward of 200 here by Imaam az-Zuhree, rather he was giving an extreme example of the difference between two kinds of worship: one kind thats benefit is restricted to the one who performs it, and the other that has ongoing reward piling up based on the actions of the people who learned from the teacher, and those who learned from their students, and so on.

The Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) said, what means, “Whoever invites to goodness will have a reward like all those who follow him in that, without their rewards decreasing in the least…” (Muslim)

Do they wait until the angels come to them ?

The Tafseer of Imaam As-Sa’dee:

Do they wait until the angels come to them….. [An’aam:158]

Translation: Abu Shu’ayb Omar As-Soomaalee

Allah the most high says,

Do they wait until the Angels come to them, or that your Lord should come, or that some of the signs of your Lord should come. That day, in which some of the signs of your Lord will come, no good will it do a person to believe then, if he wasn’t one who believed before, or gained good with their belief Say: “Wait, we too are waiting”. [An’aam:158]

Imaam As-Sa’dee said:

He the most high says: Do they wait, those who are continuant in their oppression and stubbornness ‘until the Angels come to them’ with the forefront to punishment and The Last Day, that the Angels may come to them to seize their souls, for indeed if they reach such a situation their belief will not benefit, nor righteous actions, ‘or that your Lord should come’ to judge between his servants and to reward the good-doers and the evil doers, ‘or that some of the signs of your lord should come’ pointing to the closeness of the hour. ‘That day, in which some of the signs of your Lord will come’ that go beyond what is ordinary, that by way of it (these signs) you come to know that the hour has drawn close, and that the Qiyaamah (the last day) has drawn closer.

No good will it do a person to believe then, if he wasn’t one who believed before, or gained good with their belief.

Meaning: if some of the signs of Allah come into existence, Eemaan will not benefit the disbeliever (at this point), nor the believer that has shortcomings, that he may increase in good actions thereafter, but that which will benefit is the Eemaan that was with the person before, and that which they had from good (actions) before some of the signs of their lord comes.

And the wisdom in this is apparent, for indeed the Eemaan that is of benefit is the Eemaan of the unseen (Qhayb), and was by the worshippers free will, as for if the signs come into existence, and the affair is one of witness, then no benefit will remain in Eemaan (in believing at this point), because it then resembles Eemaan belief due to necessity, like the Eemaan of the one that is drowning or is under ablaze and the likes, from those that if they saw death they would abstain from that which they where upon, like He the Most High said:

So when they saw Our punishment, they said: "We believe in Allâh Alone and reject (all) that we used to associate with Him as partners. Then their Faith (in Islâmic Monotheism) could not avail them when they saw Our punishment. (Like) this has been the way of Allâh in dealing with His slaves. [Ghafir 40:84-85]

And many authentic narrations have come from the Prophet, that what is intended by ‘some of the signs of Allah’, the rising of the sun from the west, and that when the people see this they will all believe, but their belief will not be of benefit to them, and at this point the door of Tawbah (repentance) will be closed.

And in this verse is proof for the position of Ahlul Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah affirming ‘Actions of Free Will and Choice’, like Istiwaa (ascension) and Nuzuul (descension) and Ityaan (coming) to Allah the Blessed the most High, without Tashbeeh (resemblance) to him with the characteristics of the creation. And this is common in the Book and the Sunnah.

And in it (this verse), the rising of the sun from the west is from the signs of the hour, and that Allah the Most High is Hakeem, and his common tradition, that the type Eemaan that is of benefit is the one that is chosen (by the servant) due to his own free will and not by compulsion, like has preceded.

And that mankind should obtain good with their Eemaan, for indeed obedience and righteousness and piety only benefits and increases if the servant possesses Eemaan, but if the heart is empty of Eemaan, none of these things will be of benefit to him.

The Dislike of Marriage with Women from the People of the Book -nowadays-

March 10, 2010 3 comments

The Dislike of Marriage with Women from the People of the Book

In the name of Allah the Most Beneficent Most Merciful,

The Dislike of Marriage with Women from the People of the Book -nowadays- and its Evil Consequences
by Sheikh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez bin Baaz -may Allah have mercy upon him- [Reference below]:

The Imaam, the Father Sheikh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez bin ‘Abdillah bin Baaz -may Allahs mercy be upon him- says:

Marriage with other than Muslim Women contains in it elaboretness. [TN: It's not as simple as we think. And the Sheikh will explain bi ithnillah]. Idolatresses, Communist and likewise Buddhist Women are not permissible to marry. As for chaste women from the People of the Book who are known for having chastity, decency and being distant from the avenues of fornication, they are considered the chaste ones.

So it is permissible for a Muslim Man to marry a chaste woman (from the People of the Book). However he leaves off that which is more virtuous and foremost and what is farther away from evil (i.e. marrying the Muslimah).

Because marrying this women could perhaps lead him to becoming a Christian (or Jew) -and Allahs refuge is sought- or possibly lead the children to becoming Christians (or Jews). And this is the reason why ‘Umar and a group from the Salaf disliked that (type of marriage although it is permitted) fearing for that person the evil consequences behind it. Nontheless the origin is that it is halaal (lawful).

Just as He the Most High and Exalted says in His Noble Book in Surah al-Maaidah: {Made lawful to you today are At-Tayyibat [all kinds of Hall foods, which Allh has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits). The food of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) is lawful to you and yours is lawful to them. (Lawful to you in marriage) are chaste women from the believers and chaste women from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before your time, when you have given their due Mahr, desiring chastity (i.e. taking them in legal wedlock) not committing illegal sexual intercourse nor taking them as girl-friends.}5:5

Thus Allah has permitted marriage to those women from the People of the Book (who are chaste). And a Muhsanah is one who is free, chaste and known (to the people) for chastity and decency. So when is this known from her?! When is it known that she is chaste in (places like) America or England or in any place?! This is petrifyingly dangerous. The advice is that he (the Muslim Man) should not marry her (the disbelieving women from the People of the Book) But if you find a chaste woman (from amongst them) who her chastity can be testified to then it is permissible to do so, yet he leaves off what is better (i.e. a Muslimah).

Because it is a means for him becoming a Christian (or Jew) due to his love for her or his children after him whether it be during his lifetime or after his death.

And there is no might or power except with Allah!

And may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.

Muslim women who refused to take ‘naked’ full-body scan are barred from Manchester to Pakistan flight

Muslim women who refused to take ‘naked’ full-body scan are barred from Manchester to Pakistan flight

ref: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1255104/Muslim-women-barred-flight-refusing-naked-body-scan.html

Two Muslim women have become the first passengers to refuse to subject themselves to controversial ‘naked’ full body airport scans, it emerged today.

The pair – who security officials insist were selected at random – opted to miss their flight to Pakistan and forfeit tickets worth £400 each rather than be screened.

One of the women refused to go through the full-body scanner at Manchester Airport on religious grounds while her companion also declined for ‘medical reasons’.

The women were travelling together to Islamabad when they were selected to pass through the controversial security screen after checking-in at Terminal Two at the airport.

An estimated 15,000 people have already passed through the scanners, with the pair the first passengers to refuse a scan.

Both told airport staff they were not willing to be scanned. They were warned they would not be allowed to board the Pakistan International Airlines flight if they refused.

The pair decided they would rather forfeit their £400 tickets and left the airport with their luggage.

The £80,000 scanners were introduced at Heathrow and Manchester airports on February 5.

The X-ray machines allow security staff to see a ‘naked’ image of passengers to show up hidden weapons and explosives, but it has attracted criticism for also showing clear outlines of passengers’ genitals.

Manchester Airport confirmed the passengers had refused to be scanned but said it had received no complaint from the women.

However, civil liberties campaigners say the incident could form the basis of a legal test case to challenge the use of the Rapiscan device in airports.

Alex Deane, director of campaign group Big Brother Watch, said the organisation would represent the women if they wished to challenge the decision in court.

He said: ‘People shouldn’t have to sacrifice their health, their faith, their dignity, or their privacy in order to fly.

‘People with health and religious concerns shouldn’t be forced to go through these scanners if they have good reason not to. Foolishly, the government has ignored both issues and ignored privacy concerns to boot – they are in the wrong on this.’

There is one Rapiscan scanner in use in a trial at Manchester Airport’s terminal two, which has seen 15,000 people pass through it.

A further two devices – one each for terminals one and three – have been delivered and are set to be operational within the next month.

The scanners have been criticised by the human rights group Liberty and the government’s own Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Only selected passengers are scanned. Security staff say they are chosen at random and not according to race, religion or ethnicity.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: ‘Two female passengers who were booked to fly out of Terminal Two refused to be scanned for medical and religious reasons.

‘In accordance with the government directive on scanners, they were not permitted to fly.

‘Body scanning is a big change for customers and we are aware that privacy concerns are on our customers’s minds, which is why we have put strict procedures in place to reassure them that their privacy will be protected.’

Last month, Transport Secretary Lord Adonis stressed that an interim code of practice on the use of body scanners stipulated that passengers would not be selected ‘on the basis of personal characteristics’.

Two weeks ago, a week after the scanners were introduced at Manchester and Heathrow airports, Islamic scholars in the U.S. said Muslim travellers should not pass through the scanners because they violate religious rules on nudity.

The Fiqh Council of North America issued a fatwa, or religious ruling, warning Muslims not to go through the scanners.

‘It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,’ read the order.

‘Islam highly emphasises haya (modesty) and considers it part of faith. The Quran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts.’

In the U.S., there are now 40 scanners in 19 airports and could be as many as 450 by the end of the year.

The powerful council of ten scholars that issued the fatwa is affiliated with the Islamic Society of North America.

Guidance is from Allah

"Guidance is from Allah [1]"

As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum,

Bismillah:

All praise is due to Allah, The Lord of all of the creation, and may the prayers and peace be upon our Messenger Muhammad:

Allah, The Most High, said in the Quraan: “Verily, you (Muhammad) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills.” (Al-Qasas: 56). The great scholar of Tafseer (the science of explaining the Quraan), Ibn Katheer (2) (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding this verse: “Allah the Most High is saying to His messenger, prayers and peace be upon him, ‘Indeed you guide not whom you like’, meaning it is not for you (i.e. Muhammad) to guide the people. But what is upon you (i.e. Muhammad) is to convey the message and Allah will guide whom He wills.” (3)

Also as it relates to the issue of guidance, Dr. Rabee bin Hadee (may Allah protect him) mentioned: “If Allah, The Most High, makes a person firm upon his religion and firm upon the correct belief, then this is a blessing from Allah, The Most High. So this person should not become arrogant, or boastful. Rather he should humble himself before Allah and be thankful to Allah, Lord of all of the creation, for that blessing of guidance so that Allah, The Most High, will protect his religion and distance him from any danger or deviation.

In addition to this, the person should not become relaxed. Allah, The Most High, said: ‘None feels secure from the Plan of Allah except the people who are the losers’ (Al-A’raf:99). Therefore we ask Allah every moment of our lives to make our hearts firm. The Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace be upon him) would constantly supplicate to Allah, The Most High, ‘O changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon your religion’ (5). So ‘Aaisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: ’O Messenger of Allah, you constantly supplicate to Allah with this supplication’. So the Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace be upon him) said to ‘Aaisha: ‘Indeed the hearts of mankind are between two fingers from amongst the fingers of Allah, the Most High. If He chooses, He causes a person to go astray and if He chooses, He places a person firm upon guidance’ (6) / (7).

We ask Allah, The Most High, to make our hearts firm upon His religion and to guide us to that which is pleasing to Him. And may the prayers and peace be upon our messenger Muhammad, his family and all of his companions.

(1) CN: The scholars have explained that guidance is of two types. The first type is the guidance of the heart. There is none capable of guiding a person’s heart except Allah, The Most High. This is the type of guidance being referred to in this article. The second type is the guidance of clarification and directing to the straight path. This type of guidance is not restricted to Allah, The Most High. As Allah Mentioned in the Quraan: “And verily, you (Muhammad) are indeed guiding to a straight path” (As-Shooraa 52).

Hajr Wiqaa’ee – Boycotting People of Innovation to protect oneself

March 4, 2010 1 comment

Hajr Wiqaa’ee – Boycotting People of Innovation to protect oneself

Allaamah Ubayd al-Jaabiree said, “Hajr wiqaa’ee ( – self-protective boycotting) is when you, by your own self, boycott an innovator. You know that he is an enemy to the Sunnah and its people. And you know that his usool (foundations) are not upon the Sunnah. Then you may boycott him on your own – you do not visit him or invite him to visit you, you do not sit where he sits, you may do this.”

Following is modified from the comments by Br. Abul Abbas Moosaa Richardson:-

Ibn ‘Abdil-Barr declared a scholarly consensus (ijmaa’) about this type of boycotting(i.e. Hajr wiqaa’ee):”And the scholars have unanimously agreed that it is not permissible for a Muslim to boycott his brother for more than three days unless he fears that by speaking to him or keeping ties with him that he may corrupt his Religion, or he fears that he may cause the sprouting of some harmful affairs within himself, things that harm his religious or worldly affairs. If this is the case, then there is a concession for him to stay away from him and keep distant. Quite often a good breaking of ties is better than a harmful relationship!” [at-Tamheed, 15/79, 2nd printing of the al-Faarooq al-Hadeethah printing]

So beware of those who blame the Muslims for protecting themselves from the dangers of those who spread doubts and confusion. For their refusal to sit with such people or listen to them is a proof that they love Allaah’s Guidance, they do not see it as being cheap, and they take the necessary measures to protect it.

Know the reality of those who limit boycotting to Hajr Ta’deebee only ( – Disciplinary Boycotting), and then criticize those who practice Hajr wiqaa’ee, blaming them for boycotting in a way that does not bring a positive change to the boycotted individual, which is not even the intent behind hajr wiqaa’ee! They seek to divert the people from the safe, clear way of the Salaf, the way of safety and security, and lead them to the muddy, confusing paths of misguidance and innovation. They blame the Muslims for what is unanimously agreed upon by the scholars (as shown above) and what was even mentioned by the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam):“Verily the most evil people are those who the people abandon to protect themselves from their obscene behavior.” (Saheeh al-Bukhaaree #6054)

Note: This does not condone the mistaken practice of those with knowledge and understanding of the Religion boycotting those who are ignorant and merely mistaken. Such people are to be advised and taught, with leniency and patience.[1]

Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said[2],

“The hijraah of the Sharee’ah is of two types:

1. Meaning to leave evil.
2. With the meaning of punishment for the evil being done.

As for the first, it is mentioned in the saying of Allaah (subhana wa taa’ala):

Al-An’am (6):68
And when you (Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam)) see those who engage in a false conversation about Our Verses (of the Qur’ân) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Shaitân (Satan) causes you to forget, then after the remembrance sit not you in the company of those people who are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.).

And the saying of Allaah (subhana wa taa’ala):

An-Nisa (4):140
And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Qur’ân) that when you hear the Verses of Allâh being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allâh will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell,

So these mean that one is not to witness al-Munkaaraat (the evil deeds) without necessity. Like the people who drink intoxicants or sitting with them, or people who invite to feast in which intoxicants or wind instruments are common. It is not obligatory to accept their invitation or their likes. The difference is over one who attends them intending only to abject to such behavior, or by other than his own choice. And for this is the saying, ‘One who witnesses evil is like the one who does it’ and the hadeeth:Whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day, let him not sit at the table in which Khamr is drunk.(at-Tirmidhi #2801)

This type of Hijrah is that in which one removes himself from doing evil. As he (salallaahu ‘alaihiwa sallam) said,‘The Muhaajir is one who migrates from what Allaah has forbidden him from.’(Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree)

This is the topic of migration from the lands of Kufr (disbelief) and Tamarrud (disobedience) to the lands of Islaam and Eemaan, a migration from living among the disbelievers and hypocrites for one who is incapable of doing what Allaah has ordered him to do, as Allaah has said:

Al-Muddaththir (74):5
And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)!
Allaamah ‘Abdul-’Azeez al-Muhammad as-Salmaan said[3],”…the people of innovation have diseased hearts, and it is feared for the one who mixes with them or calls upon them that he will be affected by what they have from this chronic disease. This is since the sick person contaminates the healthy person, and not the opposite.

So beware, beware of all the innovators. From the people of innovation whom we are obligated to distance ourselves from and boycott are: The Jahmees, the Raafidees, the Mu’tazilah, the Matureediyyah, the Khawaarij, the Sufis, the Ash’arees and anyone following their way from the groups that have deviated from the methodology of the Salaf. So the Muslim must beware of them and warn against them.”

Imaam al-Albaanee said[4], “As for those whom have acquired only very little knowledge, like some of our brothers, and then enter debates with those [innovators] that have more knowledge than them – even if their knowledge is tarnished with perversions or over-analysis of linguistics – like we’ve said previously, we advise these individuals to safeguard themselves, and to avoid the innovators, and to never debate them, because, their hearts may become affected by their perversions, as with the question that you heard at the beginning of this sitting, and its reply. They [the innovators] listen to everyone, the mellow and the strident, so that the perversion can attach itself to the flesh of the listener, until Allah makes accessible for him [the effected listener] a scholar that will rid him of this perversion [by teaching him]. For that reason, the quotes from our elder righteous scholars, such as Malik, Ahmad, and other than them, all used to warn about sitting with the people of innovation; furthermore, they used to promote and command of boycotting them, in fear that their perversions may find their way into their hearts. “

Allaamah Rabee’ al-Madkhalee said[5], “Ibn ‘Aqeel was a mountain from the mountains of the intellectuals, profoundness, and knowledge. He was advised not to go and (sit with) the mu’tazilah, (he however, did not heed the advice); he went to them and became mu’tazilee. Abu Thar was from the students of Ad Daaruqutnee the Imaam of the Sunnah; he (Abu Thar) heard a statement (from the people of innovation) which overwhelmed him and he became a shi’ite. Abdur Razaaq used to sit with Ja’far Bin Sulaimaan Ad Dabi’ee who had with him some shi’ite ways and thus he (Abdur Razaaq) changed. He adopted shi’ism and thus became a poor impoverished one from the shi’ite; although the shi’ism he had with him was not extreme, and he is not to be faulted (to the same extent of the shi’ite that is extreme); never the less he fell into shi’ism and was affected by it.

Therefore, the one who sits with the people of falsehood will most definitely be affected by them despite what they want and will. No matter what they claim, they will definitely be affected because the Messenger (sallAllaahu alaihi wa sallam) is the truthful one who is trusted. He (sallAllaahu alaihi wa sallam) has warned against this and said, “Verily the example of the righteous sitting and the evil sitting is like that of the merchant of fine perfumes and the ironsmith. As far as the merchant of perfume, he may either give you a sample as a gift, or you may purchase some perfume from him, or (at least) you find from him a good smell. Whereas, the ironsmith will either burn your clothes (due to the flying sparks of iron oar), or you will find from him a bad smell.”

The righteous sitting, mashaa’Allah, has three possible scenarios, all of them being good. Either he will give you a sample as a gift saying “here you may have this”, put some on you, or give you a bottle of perfume (as a gift). Or, you may buy some perfume from him. You will benefit from him and this is good. You’re not buying from him alcohol or something that is prohibited; rather you are buying from him fine oils that Allah loves. Something that you are encouraged to put on before you pray and/or enter into the Masjid. So like this you will benefit from him. Or, (at least) you will find a good smell from him and this too is good.

The evil sitting is like sitting with the ironsmith. Either he will burn your clothes or you will find from him a repugnant smell (whose fumes) may cause cancer or some other type of sickness and we seek refuge in Allah from this. So the evil sitting will most definitely afflict you in a bad way and with evil.

“An individual is on the religion of his companion and close friend, so let each of you look carefully to the one whom they befriend.”

Az-Zukhruf (43):67
Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except Al-Muttaqûn (pious – see V.2:2).

The people of desires and innovation are not from them (i.e. the pious).

You have verses and ahaadeeth that warn you (about sitting with the people of innovation). (Yet despite all of this) you say, “No, get out of here (that’s not going to happen to me).” Who has granted you an impermeable protection? The Prophet (sallAllaahu alaihi wa sallam) used to warn the Sahaabah (from sitting with the people of innovation); the Salaf who where like mountains (of knowledge, faith, adherence to the truth, etc.) used to plug their ears (from listening to the people of innovation) and did not want to hear anything from them. But you, you go to them, visit them and attend their gatherings; (you will be) afflicted by their evil, deceptions, and accusations.

We have tried abundantly; we have tried abundantly, for more than thirty years we have been trying (to get across to the likes of these people). They have been deceived, lost and broken down. Their end result has already been determined; they WILL be lost (and miserable). We ask Allah for safety!

Not matter what level of intelligences you achieve, (if you sit with them), verily Allah will punish you. Your intelligence will not avail you. You must take the necessary steps and means to safeguard and protect this religion that Allah has given to you. Do not play with this bounty!

Presently, you will find that the hizbees of this country (Saudi Arabia), all of them where originally Salafy as the origins of this country is Salafiyyah. All of these (indigenous Saudi citizens) who became hizbee where lost due to them mixing (with the hizbees), living alongside of them, reading their books and listening to the (tapes) of the people of desires.” End of Shaykh Rabee’s words.

Allaamah Abdul Azeez ar-Raajihee was asked[6], “Is it permissible for a common person or a beginner in seeking knowledge to mix with the people of desires and innovations, or is it binding to boycott them?”

So, the Shaykh replied, “Yes, it is not for a person to mix with the people of desires, as you have heard in the narrations. It is obligatory to be far away from the people of desires and innovations. A person does not sit with them, nor does he mix with them, or visit them, and they do not visit him, and he does not accept their invitation, until they leave their innovation, so that they do not cause him to be diseased, for they cause you to become diseased just like a sound healthy person is diseased by [a dog with] scabies.”

One of the principles of the Shariah is (darul-mafaasid muqadim uwla min jalbil-masaalihrepelling harm takes precedence over procuring benefits).[7] The narrations from the Salaf regarding this are too many to enumerate. Following are just some of these narrations:[8]

  • … from ‘Abdur-Rahman ibn Yazeed who said : I heard ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood say: “Beware of the innovations which the people invent, since the Deen does not pass out of the hearts all at once – rather Shaitaan introduces innovations for him until he expels Eemaan from the heart; and it will soon happen that the people will abandon the obligatory duties which Allaah has made binding upon them – the Prayer, the Fast, the lawful and the prohibited, and speak about their Lord – the Mighty and Majestic. So who ever reaches that time then let him flee.” It was said: O Aboo Abdur-Rahman, to where? He said: “Not to anywhere, he should flee with his heart and his Deen and not sit with anyone of the people of innovation.”
  • …From Mujaahid who said: “It was said to Ibn Umar that Najdah says so and so …, but he stopped himself from hearing it for fear that some of it would fall into his heart.”
  • …(From) Sa’eed ibn ‘Aamir who said: I heard Ismaa’eel [i.e. Ibn Khaarijah] narrate, saying: two men from the people of the innovated sects came to Muhammad Ibn Seereen and said: “O Aboo Bakr we want to narrate something to you.” He said: “No.” They said: “Then may we recite an Aayah from Allaah’s book to you?” He said: “No.” He said: “Either you two get up and leave or I will get up.” So the two men stood up and left. So one of the people said: “What harm would it do to you for him to recite an Aayah?” He said: “I hated that he should recite an Aayah and that they would distort it and then it would enter my heart.”
  • …From Aboo Qulaabah who said: “Do not sit with them and do not mix with them for I do not feel safe that they will not drown you in their misguidance and confuse you about much that you used to know.”
  • …Ma’mar said: Ibn – Taawoos was sitting when one of the Mu’tazilah came and began speaking, so ibn Taawoos entered his fingers into his ears and said to his son: “O My son put your fingers into your ears and press tightly so you do not hear any of his speech.” Ma’mar said: Meaning that the heart is weak.
  • …’Abdur Razzaaq narrated to us saying: Ibraaheem ibn Abee Yahya said to me: “I think that there are many from the Mu’tazilah in your area!?” I said: “Yes and they claim that you are one of them.” He said: “Will you enter this shop with me so that I can speak with you?” I said: “No.” He said: “Why?!” I said: “Since the heart is weak and the Deen is not for the one who overcomes in debating.”
  • …from Muhammad ibn an-Nadr al-Haarithee, who said: “Whoever listens to a person of innovation and knows that he is a person of innovation – then he is left to himself and leaves the protection of Allaah.”
