Re:What do the Scholars say about Anwar al-Awlaki? 37 Minutes ago
Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdil Wahhaab al-’Aqeel (Assistant professor of ‘Aqeedah in the faculty of Dawah and Fundamentals of Deen in the Islamic University of Madinah) commented upon these statements by saying:

The one who spoke these words is misguided and upon the path of the Khawaarij, those who attack the Muslim leaders. It is obligatory upon the Muslims to be cautious of him and warn against his ideology. The virtue of this blessed country and the effort of its rulers to act upon the Book and the Sunnah to the best of their ability is well-known by every person who has sound intellect and is just. No one rejects this except a misguided liar.

Insha Allaah a translation of the audio will follow shortly.

Forum thread: http://www.troid.org/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=445&func=view&catid=14&id=734&limit=10&limitstart=10#788

The following is a timeline of the Anwar al-Awlaki issue as presented on troid.org

1)[Pre-Ramadaan 1430]: The name ‘Anwar al-Awlaki’ kept being brought up in question over the last few years, not much was known about him by many and it seemed that his lecture series ‘Biographies of the Sahabah’ was well popularised. These mainstream topics on issues such as seerah wetted the apatite of the listener and provided a precursor to affection and trust in al-Awlaki, touching on `soft topics’. Furthermore, upon gaining this trust, the listener may later have been introduced to more controversial topics on Jihaad, uprising, civil unrest and attacking the Muslim rulership. His name began to pop up in media circles also, as a potentially influential person amongst those inclined to extremism.

2) [After Ramadaan 1430]: We sought to present the topic to some of the ‘Ulamaa to gain a word of clarity on Al-Awlaki.

3) [Nov. 2nd]: Eventually, at the beginning of November, we posted a note listing some of the latest statements of al-Awlaki from his website. A few examples were listed showing his infatuation for uprising within the Muslim lands against the Muslim rulership and his sharp and open criticism of the Muslim rulers and the Scholars of Islaam. It was then mentioned that a refutation of these statements would follow.

4) [Nov. 5th]: The events of Fort Hood transpire (mass shooting). al-Awlaki is quick to praise the event on his website with a blog heading ‘Nidal Hasan did the Right Thing’ We have included screenshots of this below, lest it be claimed that Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree was misled, misunderstood etc. when he commented on al-Awlaki.

5) [Nov. 7th]: Media reports quoting government sources claim that there was a ‘connection between the accused, Nidal Hasan and Anwar al-Awlaki’

6) [Nov. 9th]: Anwar al-Awlaki’s wordpress blog website suddenly and mysteriously drops offline and is replaced with a generic wordpress template devoid of any content; it remains this way as of Nov. 25th

Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree Refutes Anwar al-Alack , advises Ummah to refute him with knowledge, boycott him

image.gif quote:
In the aftermath of the heinous shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, the shooter’s and other Khaarijee (renegades’) connection to Anwar al-’Awlaki has come to light, especially in the Western media. ‘Awlaki is the common denominator in many of the recent terrorist acts and attempts that have recently occurred. ‘Awlaki is not one to carry out such attacks himself, rather he incites and inspires young ignorant Muslims to commit such crimes in the name of Islam. So the noble Scholar of Madinah, Saudi Arabia, Shaykh ‘Ubayd Ibn ‘Abdullaah al-Jaabiree has delivered this warning against al-’Awlaki. The Shaykh was presented with three of al-’Awlaki’s statements that impy mass takfeer of the Muslims and the Shaykh goes on to reply to these falsehoods. The Shaykh also hit the nail on the head when he said that al-’Awlaki has become polluted with the ideas of Sayyid Qutb, who is undoubtedly the catalyst for the modern-day acts of terrorism committed in the name of Islam.

The Praise is for Allaah, and may the peace and salutations of Allaah be upon the Messenger of Allaah and upon his family and his companions and upon all those who follow the guidance.

To proceed:

Student of Knowledge Hassan as-Somali asked: So these are some of the statements of one of the du’aat. His name is Anwar al-’Awlaki. You will find his statements on his official website. We present them to the noble Shaikh ‘Ubaid ibnu ‘Abdullaah al-Jabiree (hafidhahullaa taa’ala), so he may comment upon them and so we can spread the answers and the comments among the brothers here in America and in England and throughout the West in general.

The first statement, oh our shaikh – may Allaah bless you – [of Anwar al- 'Awlaki's], is the rulers in Arabian Peninsula are playing a central role in the fight against Islam, especially the Aalee Sa’ud family. The Aalee Sa’ud of today are the ‘Abdullaah ibnu Ubai of yesterday. And the second statement [of Anwar al-'Awlaki's] is: May this be the begining of the greatest Jihaad, the Jihaad of the Arabian Peninsula that would free the heart of the Islamic world from the tyrants who are deceiving the Ummah and standing between us and victory. Should I, oh shaikh, mention the third statement as well, or should I suffice with this?

Shaikh ‘Ubaid al-Jabiree responded: Present the third statement.

Student of Knowledge Hassan as-Somali asked: And the third statement of [Anwar al-'Awlaki] is: The Jihad in Somalia should carry on until the last African union soldier leaves the country, and any forces that side with the African union, including the Shareef government become legitimate targets. And Shareef, ya shaikh, is the President who won the recent elections. So what is your comment, ya shaikh, upon these statements, may Allaah bless you.

Answer by Shaikh ‘Ubaid al-Jabiree: In the Name of Allaah, All Praise is for Allaah, and may the peace and salutations of Allaah be upon His slave and Messenger Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions. The summary of what has become apparent to me from these three statements that you have quoted from a specific forum or specific website for Anwar al-’Awlaki – and this ‘Awlaki proves that the origin of this man is Yemeni – so the essence of what is comprised in these statements from that which is apparent to me are two affairs:

1-

image.gif quote:
The first affair is his ignorance concerning the fiqh (understanding) of Jihaad, and he has no knowledge concerning the Jihaad which is from the well-planned obligations that Allaah has established up until Allaah causes the earth and whosoever is upon it to perish. And I suspect that the man has become polluted by the ideas of Sayyid Qutb, al Misree (the Egyptian). And similiar to him are Abu Qatad and Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisee and many others besides them. So all of these individuals and this man have been influenced by the likes of Sayyid Qutb. According to the people of research and experience with examining statements, Sayyid Qutb is the flag-bearer of takfeer in this time. And his book Ma’aalim fi Tareek (translated as "Milestones") proves this clearly. So this Sayyid [Qutb] has declared the entire Ummah kufaar, falsely. The rulers and their subjects.

And al-Jihaad according to Ahlus-Sunnah – who have inherited from Prophet Muhammad (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) the correct understanding of the Deen, the correct understanding of ‘ibaadah (worship), and the correct understanding of social dealings – is of two categories: Jihadu Talab (Offensive Jihaad) and Jihaadu Dafi` (Defensive Jihaad).

And Jihadu Talab is to mobilize the troops and to dispath the armies and to prepare sufficient equipment in order to fight whosoever is surrounding them from the disbelievers – for the purpose of making the Word of Allaah uppermost. And this is from the special functions of the Muslim ruler. He is the one who can call to such an act and he is the one who sets it up, and he is the one who leads it himself. Or he appoints someone to lead a military detachment for it.

So whoever calls to Jihaad in a general manner, then he is one of two men: he is either ignorant concerning the fiqh of Jihaad, or he is a person of desires who is misguided and misguiding others – an innovator. And regardless of whether he is from the former or the latter, it is obligatory upon the Ummah to be cautious of him and to have hatred for him, and it is obligatory upon the scholars to refute him and to warn against him.

The second [kind of Jihaad] is Jihaadu Dafi` (Defensive Jihaad), and it is to defend against the assailant and the transgressor. So when an assailant and a transgressor from the disbelievers attacks the Muslim country, then it is permissible for the people of that country to defend themselves and to resist the attack in order to stop its evil and disprove its deception. And it is a required condition that they must have the ability and the strength to do this. So if they have the ability and the strength, they can mobilize themselves to defend against the subjegation of the transgressing party and to defeat its [enemy's] endeavor and to reject its tryanny.

And if they do not have the ability and the strength for that, then they have two choices: they can either flee with their religion and their honor to wherever they will be safe or they can seek a treaty of peace with this tyrannical enemy, and they can make contracts and agreements with him to preserve and safeguard the territory of the people of al-Islam. So it is concluded from this that the required condition for Jihadu Talab (Offensive Jihaad) is the ruler, since it is from his special functions, and the required condition for Jihaadu Dafi` (Defensive Jihaad) is the strength and ability to carry it out. And strength and ability are necessary for both of these acts in order to defeat the endeavor of the enemies of Allaah.

2- The second affair that has become apparent from the first two statements is that the man [al-'Awlaki] harbors resentment against the Arabian Peninsula, and he harbors resentment against the rulers from Aalee Sa’ud. And due to this, he has described them with kufr (disbelief) or nifaq (hypocrisy), or both of them. And the crime of Aalee Sa’ud – according to this one ['Awlaki] and his likes from the people of desires and splitting and the Khawarij – is that their nation state [Saudia Arabia] is a nation state of Tawheed and the Sunnah. Every person of the Sunnah testifies to this, and their nation state has been the flag bearer of Tawheed and the Sunnah since its inception at the hands of Al-Imaam Muhammad ibn Sa’ud (rahimahullaah), since it gives victory to Tawheed and the Sunnah.

Ash-Shaikh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhab (rahimahullaah) called to Tawheed and the Sunnah, and the ameer Muhammad ibn Sa’ud used to aid him and defend him, and he used to defend his da’wah. And the fruit of that effort was that Allaah made this righteous Imam – the Mujaahid – strong and influential due to his raising the flag of Tawheed and the Sunnah. I deem him as such, and Allaah is his Reckoner. From the fruits of this da’wah was the establishment of a mighty nation state. It has taken on the burden of establishing the religion. And there is no person of Sunnah except that his heart is with this Dawla (nation state), and likewise it has taken on the political and economic burden. So these are all fruits of aiding Tawheed and the Sunnah.

And the Khawarij in every time and place have always had enmity toward Ahlus-Sunnah – the rulers and their subjects, because Ahlus-Sunnah are from the farthest of people from at-takfeer, let alone tabdee` (declaring someone an innovator) and tafseeq (declaring someone a disobedient sinner), except with a proof that obligates takfeer or tabdee` or tafseeq of the opponent. And this is known to those who are familiar with the history of Ahlus-Sunnah and their written works. However, the one who has been overwhelmed by malice, and desire has become deep-rooted within him, then he opposes Ahlus-Sunnah and displays enmity towards them.

image.gif quote:
So it is not strange that al-’Awlaki should take this path since he has a predecessor and he himself is from the later followers. And from here, I warn the Muslims firstly against this man [al-'Awlaki] and I call upon them to boycott him and to sever ties with him and to refute him with a knowledge-based refutation that will expose his da’wah and reveal his true condition, and show that he is an enemy to the people of Islam and the Sunnah.

And this refutation must show that he [al-'Awlaki] and his likes are from those who have disfigured the image of Islam and the image of the people of Islam to the extent that they have driven those who do not possess intellect from the Jews and the Christians to attack the personality of the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) and they have degraded the mushaf. Due to their lack of intellect and their lack of knowledge of Islam and its people, they think that Anwar al-’Awlaki and his predecessors and his contemporaries represent the people of Islam and they think that this path of theirs is the true path of the people of Islam. And that the attack against the owners and the wealth and the lives, and nullifying the contracts and ratified treaties between our rulers and the rest of the non-Muslim nation states of the world, such as those of Europe and America, then those feeble-minded fools and those who have been deprived of justice and fairness, they think that this is the Islam that we practice.

So how astonishing is it that America let this man remain therein? Yet it [America] raises its voice to say it opposes terrorism, and when we hear about such people we say that they are Khawarij, since this man and his likes are the terrorists as the Europeans and the Americans and the Western people in general. And I think that even the non-Muslims from the people of the East like Russia have labelled them with this title. So they in reality are the instruments of terrorism, and they are the river from which the Khawarij draw out what they draw out from attacking the people of Islam and the Sunnah, and for attacking those with whom we have contracts and treaties. Since these ones do not recognize any contract or treaty, they only declare people disbelievers en masse.

This is what I like to make note of and I ask Allaahu subhanahu wa taa’ala to keep the people of al-Islaam away from every evil and detestable thing and to withhold from them the evil of the Khawarij, whether they are the Khawarij who sit and incite others to khurooj (rebellion against the rulers) or whether they are the ones who carry it out themselves, and that Allaah keeps the misery of the Khawarij among their ownselves and that He allows the Muslims to see a lesson in them and that He seizes those Khawarij with a mighty and strong seizure and that He makes them a lesson for those who take heed.

And may the peace and salutations of Allaah be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and all his companions. This was dictated by the one in need of Allaah, ‘Ubayd ibnu ‘Abdullaah ibnu Sulaimaan al-Jabiree, a former professor at the Islamic University of al-Madinah. The date of this discussion was Wednesday night, 23rd of Dhul-Qi’dah, 1430 Hijri, corresponding to the 11th of November, 2009.

And the Tawfeeq (success) is with Allaah. And may the peace and salutations of Allaah be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and all his companions.

Wa salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakatu.

- Allaah said: And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad, (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam)) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers’ way. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell – what an evil destination. (An-Nisa 4:115)
- The Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam) said, "Hold firmly to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs after me. Hold onto it with your molar teeth. And beware of newly invented affairs, since every newly invented affair is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance and every innovation is in the Fire." - Every issue of aqeedah (creed), ‘ibaadah (worship) or manhaj (methodology) which the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah has not provided a text for and upon which the Companions never agreed upon is falsehood, vain and innovated.

The Reality Of Anwar Awlaki and A recording from Nov.10th,2009,with Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jaabiree

Bismillaah, wal-hamdulilaah, was-salaatu was-salaamu ‘alaa rasoolillaah,As Salaamu ‘Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakatuh

Assalaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatahu

Brothers and sisters, I am in the process of compiling a piece of advice concerning Anwar Awlaki-may Allaah guide him- based on a few dangerous and misleading articles that he has written which stink of takfeer (Declaring Muslims to be disbelievers) and khurooj (The call to rebel against the Muslim leaders).

Here are some of his statements:

1. "Third, the rulers in the Arabian Peninsula are playing a central role in the fight against Islam especially the al Saud family. The al Saud of today are the Abdullah bin Ubay of yesterday." In the article: Could Yemen be the Next Surprise of the Season?

2. "The Jihad in Somalia should carry on until the last AU soldier leaves the country and any forces that side with the AU -including the Sharif government- become legitimate targets." In the article:The Voting for Sharia in Somalia

3. "In the first confrontation between the government of Yemen and the mujahideen, the government suffered a humiliating defeat.
The fight began between a military convey and one of the mujahideen in the area of Marib…

May this be the beginning of the greatest Jihad, the Jihad of the Arabian Peninsula that would free the heart of the Islamic world from the tyrants who are deceiving the ummah and standing between us and victory."In the article:The Army of Yemen Confronts the Mujahideen

Ibn Taymiyyah said (28/179):

"Being patient with the tyranny of the Muslim leaders (Imaams) is a foundation (Asl) from the foundations of Ahl us Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah."

May Allaah grant us success to hold on firmly to the foundations (Usool) of the people of Sunnah, and to die upon them.

Imam Al-Aajurree , Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Hussein d. 360H (Sharee’ah:1/325) said:

"The scholars, past and present, have not differed over the fact that the Khawaarij are a despicable people, and disobedient to Allah and His Messenger, regardless of their praying, fasting and that they exert great effort in worship, as this does not benefit them.

They feign to enjoin the good and forbid the evil, but this does not benefit them, because they misinterpret the Quran in accordance to their desires, and they try to camouflage their falsehood before the believers.

Allah, the Most High, warned against them, the Prophet (Sallaahu ‘alayhi was sallam) warned against them, the rightly guided Caliphs who succeeded him warned us against them, the Companions warned us against them, and similarly those who followed them in goodness.

The Khawaarij are the Shuraat (those who claim that they sold themselves seeking the pleasure of Allah), filthy and foul.

All who walk upon their Madhab, past and present, from the rest of the Khawaarij, inherit their belief, and rebel against the Muslim rulers and leaders, and declare the Muslims blood to be lawful."

Fasting on Day of Arafah for Different Moon Sighting Countries

November 25, 2009 Leave a comment

Fasting on Arafah for Different Moon Sighting Countries

As we in India are keen to fast on the day of ‘Arafah, but the Hijri date in India is different from the date in Saudi: when the date in India is the 8th of the month, it is the 9th in Saudi. Should I fast on the 8th – which is the 9th in Saudi – or should I fast according to the date in India?

Source : Muhammad al-Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen ,Majmoo’ al-Fataawa

These are the type of question arrive every time when Ramadan comes or the day of Arafah comes Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: what if the day of ‘Arafah is different because of the moon being sighted at different times in different countries? Should we fast according to the moon sighting in the country where we are or according to the moon sighting in al-Haramayn (the two Holy Sanctuaries)?

He replied: This is based on a difference of opinion among the scholars: Is there only one moon sighting for the whole world or does it vary according to when the moon rises in different places?

The correct view is that it varies according to when the moon rises in different places. For example, if the moon is sighted in Makkah, and today is the ninth, and it is sighted elsewhere one day before Makkah, and the day of ‘Arafah in Makkah is the tenth for them, it is not permissible for them to fast on this day because it is Eid. Similarly if it so happens that they sight the moon after Makkah, and the 9th in Makkah is the 8th for them, then they should fast the day that is the 9th for them, which is the 10th in Makkah. This is the correct view, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When you see it (the new moon) fast and when you see it break your fast.” Those who did not see the moon in their own location have not seen it. Just as people are unanimously agreed that the times for dawn and sunset vary according to their own location, so too the months are also worked out by location, just like the daily timings. Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 20.

And he (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about some people who worked in the Saudi embassy in a foreign country, who said that they were having a problem concerning the fast of Ramadaan and the fast on the day of ‘Arafah. The brothers there had split into three groups:

One group said: we will fast with Saudi and break the fast with Saudi.

Another group said: we will fast with the country where we are living and break the fast with them.

The last group said: we will fast Ramadaan with the country where we are living, but we will fast the day of ‘Arafah with Saudi.

They asked the Shaykh to provide them with a detailed answer concerning the Ramadaan fast and fasting the day of ‘Arafah, whilst noting that for the past five years, in the country where they were living neither Ramadaan nor the day of ‘Arafah had been observed on the same days as in Saudi; their Ramadaan started one or two days after it had been announced in Saudi, and sometimes three days after.

He replied:

In the name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

The scholars (may Allaah have mercy on them) differed concerning the issue when the moon is sighted in one part of the Muslim world and not in another: do all the Muslims have to act on the basis of that, or only those who sighted it and the people who live in the same region, or only those who sighted it and the people who live under the same government? There are many different points of view.

The most correct view is that the matter should be referred to those who have knowledge of it. If the moon rises at the same point for two countries they become like one country, so if it is sighted in one of them that ruling applies to the other. But if the rising points differ, then each country has its own ruling. This is the view favoured by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him); this is the apparent meaning of the texts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah and what is implied by analogy.

In the Qur’aan it says (interpretation of the meaning):

“So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Sawm (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allaah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allaah [i.e. to say Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar: Allaah is the Most Great)] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him” [al-Baqarah 2:185]

What is implied by this verse is that whoever does not see it is not obliged to fast.

In the Sunnah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When you see it (the new moon) then fast, and when you see it, break your fast.” What is implied by this hadeeth is that if we did not see it we are not obliged to fast or to break the fast.

With regard to analogy, the times for starting and ending the fast each day should be worked out in each country on its own, according to the local times of sunrise and sunset. This is a point on which there is scholarly consensus. So you see the people in east Asia starting their fast before the people of west Asia, and breaking their fast before them, because dawn breaks for the former before the latter, and the sun sets for the former before the latter.

Once this is established with regard to the times for starting and ending the daily fast, it also applies to the start and end of the monthly fast. There is no difference between them.

But if many regions come under the same government, and the ruler gives the command for the fast to start or end, then his command must be followed, because this is a matter of scholarly dispute but the command of the ruler dispels that dispute.

Based on the above, you should fast and break your fast along with the people of the country where you are living, whether that is in accordance with your country of origin or not. Similarly on the day of ‘Arafah you should follow the country where you are living.

Excellence of Fasting on the Day of Arafah

November 25, 2009 Leave a comment

This year ( Thursday Nov 26th 2009 ) is the day of Arafah

FASTING THE DAY OF ’ARAFAH:

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of ’Arafah, since it is on this day that the pilgrims gather at the mountain plain of ’Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord.

It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on this day, since the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on the day of ’Arafah, so he said, “It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” [4]

Likewise, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is no day on which Allaah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He revels before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.” [5]

Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d.275H) – rahimahullaah – said, “The People of Knowledge consider it recommended to fast on the day of ’Arafah, except for those at ’Arafah.” [6]

[5] Related by Muslim (no. 1348), from ’Aa‘ishah (radiyallaahu ’anhaa).

Hajj Akbar & Yaum-ul-Hajjil-Akbar

alifta.com

Q 1: what is the meaning of the “Day of the Greatest Hajj” and the “Greatest Hajj”? Are they synonymous? Or, do they differ in meaning? Are they both in the Glorious Qur’an and authentic Sunnah (whatever is reported from the Prophet)?

The greatest day of Hajj is the Day of Sacrifice, which is the tenth day of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Abu Dawood narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stood up on the day of Sacrifice during the Hajj that he performed and said: “What day is this?” They said, “the Day of Sacrifice.” He said, “This is the greatest day of Hajj.” Sunan Abi Dawood, 1945; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 1700.

Al-Bukhaari (369) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq (may Allaah be pleased with him) sent me amongst the announcers to proclaim in Mina on the Day of Sacrifice, “After this year no mushrik is allowed to perform Hajj or to circumambulate the House naked.”

The Day of Sacrifice is called the greatest day of Hajj because during that night there is the standing at ‘Arafah and staying overnight in al-Mash’ar al-Haraam, and during that day there is the stoning of the Jamrah, offering the sacrifice, shaving the head, tawaaf and saa’i, which are all actions of Hajj. The day of Hajj refers to the time and the description of greatest refers to the actions done at that time. The greatest day of Hajj is mentioned in the Qur’aan where Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And a declaration from Allaah and His Messenger to mankind on the greatest day (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah — the 12th month of Islamic calendar)”

[al-Tawbah 9:3]

And Allaah is the Source of strength.

Al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah li’l-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wa’l-Ifta’, 11/221

PS: If Arafat is on a Friday, then many describe it as Hajj Akbar (Big Hajj). There is no big or small Hajj. There is only one Hajj. Every year is Hajj Akbar. The 10th day of Dhul Hijja is described in The Qur’an as Yaum-ul-Hajjil-Akbar.

From SalafiTalk.net:

The Major Hajj (al-Hajjul-Akbar)

Aboo Daawood reported a hadeeth (no.1945) from Ibn ‘Umar- radiyallaahu ‘anhumaa- that Allaah’s Messenger- sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam- stood, on the Day of Sacrifice, between the stoning places- during the Hajj which he performed, and he said :

<< This is the day of the Major Hajj (al-Hajjul-Akbar).>>

Shaikh al-Albaanee said: ”Saheeh  ..Reported by al-Bukhaaree in discontinuous form.”

Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim said, commenting upon Aayah 3 of Soorah Baraa.ah (Sooratut-Tawbah):

”The Qur.aan has clearly stated that the announcement occurred on the Day of the Major Hajj, and there is no disagreement about the fact that the announcement took place on the day of sacrifice in Minaa. So this is a decisive proof that the day of the major Hajj is the Day of Sacrifice…” ['`Awnul Ma'bood':5/420].

As for the Day of ‘Arafah falling upon the day of Jumu’ah, then that is when two ‘Eids combine- as happened during the Hajj of the Prophet- sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam- , and as was indicated in the famous statement of ‘Umar radiyallaahu ‘anhu- to the Jew, concerning the sending down of Aayah 3 of Sooratul-Maa.idah.

Seeking blessings (Tabarruk) from Maktabah Makkah

November 24, 2009 Leave a comment

Question:

[There are] some ignorant pilgrims (Hujjaaj) who come to Maktabah Makkah[1] and they rub and touch its walls, and they seek blessings (Barakah) from it citing as proof that it is the birthplace of the Prophet (sallAllaahu ýalayhi wa sallam). So what is the ruling upon their action? And what is our duty regarding them?

Answer:

This is from the general principle and [known] from the general and the specific evidences: that it is not allowed to seek blessings (at-Tabarruk) from buildings, stones, trees, houses and other than that. But rather al-Barakah (blessing) is only sought from Allaah the Majestic and the Most High. For indeed blessing is from Him and He is the One Who bestows the blessing and therefore al-Barakah is requested from Him alone and sought from Him the Most Perfect and the Most High.

He the Most Perfect and the Most High did not place al-Barakah in a place named Daar al-Mawlid! Who said this? Did the Messenger (sallAllaahu ýalayhi wa sallam) go to this house or did the Sahabah go to this house? Did the Salaf as-Saalih and the Scholars up until the contemporary times go to it? Rather this house was never even mentioned and it only became known recently…and even if it was confirmed that it is the house where the Messenger of Allaah was born; then it is like any other house and does not possess any unique excellence except when supported by evidence from the Book and the Sunnah.

1 [Translators Note] – Maktabah Makkah is a small library situated next to the Masjid al-Haram near Mount Marwa in Ghazzah, Makkah.
