Ten Causes that Result in Allaah’s Love For His Slave and the Slave’s Love for his Lord

First, reciting the Qur’an while pondering over its meanings and what is meant by it.

Second, getting closer to Allaah by performing voluntary deeds after completing obligatory deeds. This is as is stated in a Hadith Qudsi: “My slave continues getting closer to Me by performing voluntary deeds until I love him.”

Third, continual remembrance of Allaah under all circumstances, with one’s tongue, heart and actions. The extent of one’s love of Allaah is determined by this.

Fourth, giving precedence to what He loves over what you love when you are overtaken by your desires.

Fifth, the heart being avid of Allaah’s Names, and Attributes and the heart roaming in that garden of knowledge.

Sixth, observing Allaah’s kindness, goodness and bounties, both hidden and open.

Seventh, and this is the most wonderful, the heart being soft, subdued and meek before Allaah.

Eighth, being alone with Allaah during the time when the Lord descends during the last portion of the night while reading His Book and ending that by asking for forgiveness and repenting.

Ninth, sitting with the beloved and sincere, benefitting from the most fruitful of their speech. And not to speak unless speaking is more beneficial and you know that it will improve your state and be beneficial to others.

Tenth, remaining away from every cause that comes between the heart and Allaah.

The Best Hours of the Day – Fajr and Asr

Allah‘s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the Muslims to safeguard Fajr and Asr.

Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “ We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he looked at the moon on a full moon night and said,” Certainly you will see your Lord as you see this moon and you will have no trouble seeing Him. So if you can avoid missing (through sleep or worldly affairs) a Salah before sunrise and before sunset, you must do so.” He the recited Allah’s verse: “ And glorify the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its’ setting.” [50:39] [ Bukhari 554]

* Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) said,” This hadeeth establishes that Allah will be seen in Jannah. .. This hadeeth points to the great importance of Fajr and Asr prayers. They are the best out of the five daily prayers. And for that reason some people call both of them the middle prayer.” [ Fathul Bari 4/ 554 maktabul Ghurabah1996]

Angels come in succession at Fajr and Asr.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said,” Angels come to you in succession by night and day and all of them get together at the time of Fajr and Asr prayers. Those who have passed the night with you ascend and Allah asks them, though he knows everything about you, “ In what state did you leave my slaves?” The angels reply: When we left them, they were praying and when we reached them they were praying.” [ Bukhari 555]

Whoever prays Fajr and Asr will enter Paradise. [ inshallah]

Abu Bakr ibn Abe Musa narrated that his father told him that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever prays the the two cool Salat (Asr and Fajr prayers) will enter Paradise.” [Bukhari 574]

The Morning and Evening supplications are done at these times.

..and glorify your Lord by the praising of Him before the rising of the sun

and before its setting, and during hours of the night do also glorify (Him) and during parts of the day, that you may be well pleased [Taha 130 ]

..and sing the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before the setting.[ Qaf 39 ]

The recitation of the Quran is witnessed at Fajr and Asr.

…and the morning recitation; surely the morning recitation is witnessed [Isra 78]

* Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih AL-Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him said,” This witnessing also applies to Asr, because the recording Angels gather together at that time too.”[ Sharhus Saheeh Al-Bukhari 1/143]

Allah will been seen in Jannah after Asr and Fajr

Allaah Has Combined All of Medicine (at-Tibb) in One Verse of the Qur’aan

All praise is due to Allaah and may the prayers and salutations be upon His Messenger, to proceed:

Allaah the Most High said, “…And eat and drink and be not excessive (therein)…” (al-A’raaf 7:31)

Ibn Katheer commented upon this verse:

One of the Salaf said: Allaah has combined the entirety of medicine (at-tibb) in half a verse, “And eat and drink and be not excessive…”

Al-Qurtubi commented upon this verse, after mentioning that excessive eating is makrooh (disliked), he mentions the benefits of eating little:

… In eating little there are many benefits. From them that a man becomes of sounder body, of better memory, purer in understanding, (requiring) less sleep, and lighter in (his) soul…

Then he mentioned the harms of eating excessively:

… and in eating much there is the overstuffing of the stomach and putrefaction of undigested food, and from this the variety of diseases are produced, and thus he requires treatment more than what the one who eats little requires. Some of the physicians said, “The greatest treatment (dawaa’) is (appropriate) estimation of food.” And the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) has explained this meaning sufficiently and completely which does away with the speech of the physicians, so he said, “The son of Aadam does not fill a container worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Aadam to take enough morsels of food to keep his back straight (keep him able-bodied). And if it is necessary, then a third for his food, a third for his drink, and a third for his breath.”…

Then a little later al-Qurtubi says:

And it is mentioned that (the caliph) ar-Rasheed used to have a shrewd Christian physician who said to Alee bin Hasan, “There is not in your Book (the Qur’aan) anything of the knowledge of medicine, and knowledge of is of two types, knowledge of the religions and knowledge of the bodies.” So he said to him, “Allaah has combined all of medicine in half a verse in our Book.” So he said, “What is it?” He said, “The saying of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic: And eat and drink and be not excessive.”…

And Imaam ad-Dhahabi in his book “at-Tibb an-Nabawi” (p. 34-35) says:

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said: “The son of Aadam does not fill a container worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Aadam to take enough morsels of food to keep his back straight (keep him able-bodied). And if it is necessary, then a third for his food, a third for his drink, and a third for his breath.” This was reported by an-Nasaa’ee and at-Tirmidhee, who said, “Hasan Saheeh” … and this is one from the aspects of preserving health.

Alee bin Hasan said:

“And Allah, the Sublime and Exalted has combined the whole of medicine in (just) half a verse, so He, the Most High said, “And eat and drink and be not excessive…”

A Successful Ramadaan

[The piety and humility of the Salaf]

When Ramadaan came to a close, the rightly guided predecessors (As-Salaf As-Saalih) used to frequently seek forgiveness, repent to Allaah – The Mighty and Majestic – and fear that their (deeds) would not be accepted. They used to exert themselves (in worship) in Ramadaan and outside of Ramadaan, afterwards they would be fearful that none of this will be accepted.

[How the Salaf behaved when Ramadaan was approaching and when it left]

They used to seek the forgiveness of Allaah and repent. So much so that it was reported that they would supplicate to Allaah for six months that He would allow them to reach Ramadaan. If He allowed them to reach Ramadaan, they would fast, pray at night and supplicate for the next six months that He accepts the month of Ramadaan from them.

[Signs that Ramadaan has been accepted]

Following good deeds with good is a sign that (an act) has been accepted, whether it is pertaining to Ramadaan or other than it. If the Muslim is in a good state after Ramadaan, performing many good deeds and righteous actions, then this is a proof of acceptance.

[Signs that Ramadaan hasn’t been accepted]

If the opposite is true, and he follows good with evil, and as soon as Ramadaan is over he follows on from this with sins, heedlessness and turning away from the obedience of Allaah, then this is a proof that it hasn’t been accepted.

Every person knows their true situation after Ramadaan. So let them look, if they are in a better state, then let them thank Allaah, as this shows (that it has been) accepted.
If their state is worse, then let them repent to Allaah and seek the forgiveness of Allaah, as this is a proof that it hasn’t been accepted and it is a proof of negligence and carelessness.

[Do not despair of the Mercy of Allaah]

But the slave should not lose hope of the mercy of Allaah. He should not close the door that is between him and Allaah and despair of the mercy of Allaah.

“Say: O my slaves who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins). Do not despair of the Mercy of Allaah: verily Allaah forgives all sins. He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Az-Zumar: 53)

It is upon him to repent, seek the forgiveness of Allaah and return to Allaah – The Mighty and Majestic.
Allaah – The Mighty and Majestic – accepts repentance from those that repent.

“And He it is Who accepts repentance from His slaves, and forgives sins, and He knows what you do.” (Ash-Shura:25)

And the peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad.

Using the Bible in Daw’ah Work

Shaykh ‘Abdur-Rahmaan Al-’Ajlaan

Question: What is the ruling on using the material of those authors who quote from the Bible to establish hujjah (evidence)?

Answer: It is not permissible for a Muslim to read the books of the People of Book; like their books (the Old and New Testament) which report about the Torah or the Injeel because it is feared that he may be harmed or mislead by doing so, if his intention is merely to read and find out what is within them. However, if a student studies the book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم and he is firm upon that, and he wants to read the books of the People of the Book then it is permitted for him to do. The Salaf did this ; they read the books of the People of the Book in order to refute them.

What Have We Gained From Ramadan?

Ramadan is a school of iman and a ‘stop to recharge one’s spiritual batteries’ – to acquire one’s provision for the rest of the year…

For when will one take a lesson and change for better if not in the month of Ramadan?

The noble month is a true school of transformation in which we change our actions, habits and manners that are in variance with the Law of Allah ‘azza wa jall. “Verily, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” [Ar-Ra`d, 11]

If you are from those who benefited from Ramadan, fulfilled the requirements of taqwa, truly fasted the month, prayed in it with truthfulness, and strove against you soul, then praise and thank Allah, and ask Him for steadfastness upon it until you meet your death.

Be not like one who has sewn a shirt and then destroyed it… Have you seen one who sewed a shirt or thawb, so when she looked at it, she liked it. Then she destroyed it pulling a thread by thread for no reason. What would people say about such a person?! Or have you seen one who earns a fortune trading throughout the day, then when the night comes, he throws away all that he earned, dirham by dirham. What would people say about such a person?!

This is the condition of one who returns to sinning and evildoing after Ramadan and leaves obedience and righteous actions. So after he was favored with the blessing of obedience and enjoyment of communicating with Allah he returned to the blaze of sins and evil actions. How evil are the people who know Allah only in Ramadan!

My dear ones,

falling short in one’s commitment to Islam after Ramadan is manifested in many ways, including:

1 – Men leaving the five prayers in congregation, after they filled mosques for Taraweeh prayers, thus going to the masjid for recommended prayers and leaving obligatory ones.

2 – Return to musical entertainment, forbidden films, women displaying their adornment beyond that which ordinarily appears thereof, free mixing etc.

This is not thankfulness for blessings and favors, nor is it the sign of acceptance of one’s actions, rather this is opposition to favors and absence of thankfulness.

These are from signs of one’s deeds not being accepted – and Allah’s refuge is sought – for one who truly fasts rejoices on the occasion of `eid, praises his Lord for helping him complete the fast, and remains fearful that Allah may not accept his fasting, just as the Salaf would continue asking for acceptance of their actions in Ramadan for six months after it.

From signs that one’s deeds are accepted is that he or she has improved in his or her obedience to Allah `azza wa jall. “And remember when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]…” [Ibrahim, 7] Increase you in good, faith and righteous actions. So if the servant is truly thankful to his Lord, you will see him guided to more obedience and distanced from sinfulness. Thankfulness is leaving sins, as the early Muslims said.

“And worship your Lord until there comes you to the certainty [i.e. death].” [al-Hijr, 99]

The Muslim must continuously be in the state of obedience of Allah, firm upon His Sharee`ah, steadfast upon His Deen, so that he or she is not of those who worship Allah only during one month or only in one place. Rather, the believer knows that the Lord of Ramadan is also the Lord of other months, and that He is the Lord of all times and places, so he is steadfast upon the Sharee`ah of Allah until he meets Him while He is pleased with him. Allah ta`ala said, “So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, [you] and those who have turned back with you [to Allah].” [Hud, 112] And, “So take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness.” [Fussilat, 6] And the Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said, “Say ‘I believe in Allah’, then be steadfast.” [Muslim]

– If the fasting in Ramadan has ended, then there remains voluntary fasting, such as fasting six days in Shawwal, on Mondays and Thursdays, the three days in the middle of the month, the days of `Aashoora and `Arafat, and others.

– If standing in prayer at night during Ramadan has ended, then there remains voluntary night prayer throughout the year. “They used to sleep but little of the night.” [Adh-Dhaariyaat, 17]

– If the charity in Ramadan and zakat ul-fitr have ended, then there is the obligatory Zakat, and also there are many other open doors to charity, voluntary actions and jihad.

– Reading of the Qur’an and contemplating it is not only for Ramadan, rather it is for all times.

Righteous actions are for all times and all places, so strive – O my brother and sister – and beware of laziness. And remember that it is not allowed for us to leave the obligatory actions or delay them, such as the five daily prayers on time, in congregation etc.

And do not fall into forbidden actions, such as forbidden sayings, food and drinks, or by looking at or listening to what is forbidden.

Be steadfast and upright upon the Deen of Allah at all times, for you do not know when you’ll meet the Angel of Death. Beware of him taking you while you are in a state of sin. “O Allah, Who turns the hearts, keep our hearts steadfast upon Your Deen.”

I ask Allah to accept from us and you our fasting, our prayers and other righteous actions, that our condition after Ramadan be a better one, that the state of our Ummah improves, that we are granted honour and that we truly turn to our Lord…Ameen

What a Muslim says once the moon of Shawwaal has been sighted

Question:
We would like to know what a Muslim says once the moon of Shawwaal has been sighted (up until) before the `Eed prayer?

Response:
That which is befitting is to increase in (reciting) the takbeer (the saying of: Allaahu Akbar (Allaah is the Greatest», and the tahleel (the saying of: laa ilaaha ill-Allaah (there is none truly worthy of worship except Allaah», and the tahmeed (the saying of al-hamdu-lillaah (all Praise is for Allaah», for that which Allaah (Tabaarak wa Ta’aala) (mentions):

{and that you must magnify Allaah for having guided you so that you may be grateful} [Soorah al-Baqarah, Aayah 185].

The wording of the takbeer and the tahmeed

Question: What is the wording of the takbeer and the tahmeed?

Response: That one says:

«Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, wallaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar wa lillaahil-Hamd»,

or one says:

«Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar wa lillaahil-Hamd».

The congregational takbeer for the ‘Eed prayer

Question: What is the ruling regarding the congregational takbeer for the `Eed prayer.

Response: It has been legislated for a person to make takbeer from his home to the musallaa (area designated for the `Eed prayer), and whilst at the musallaa he should audibly (continue to) do so, each person unto himself, such that the place vibrates with the (sound of the) takbeer. As for them mutually agreeing to start and finish together (in congregation), then there is nothing (evidence) to indicate the permissibility of the congregational takbeer, and it has not been legislated.

What is better for a woman, to come out to the Eid prayer or to stay at home?

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked: what is better for a woman, to come out to the Eid prayer or to stay at home?

He replied:

It is better for them to go out to Eid prayer, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined that the women go out to the Eid prayer, even the adolescent girls and virgins – i.e., women who do not ordinarily go out. He commanded them to go out, and he told the menstruating women to go out but to keep away from the prayer-place. So menstruating women should go out with other women for Eid, but they should not enter the place where the Eid prayer is offered, because the Eid prayer-place is a mosque and it is not permissible for a menstruating woman to stay there, but it is permissible for her to pass through or to take something she needs from it, without staying there. Based on this we say: women are commanded to go out to the Eid prayer and join the men in this prayer, because of the goodness, dhikr and du’aa’ they may experience there.

He also said:

But they must go out looking decent, not wearing adornment, makeup or perfume, so that they may combine following the Sunnah with avoiding fitnah.

What some women do of wearing adornment, makeup and perfume is because of their ignorance and negligence on the part of their guardians. This does not cancel out the general shar’i ruling, which is that women are commanded to go out to the Eid prayer.

Fataawa Series from the Scholars in Yemen – 6 : Eid al-Fitr

EID AL-Fitr

1. Question: What is the verdict for Ghusl on Eid day ?

Answer :  There isn’t anything authentic narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made Ghusl on Eid day. However there is no harm if a person does it for cleanliness. It has been reported that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) made Ghusl on this day.

2. Question : Are there two Khutub on the Eid or only one ?

Answer : There is only one Khutub for the Eid for the men. This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did two, it would have reached us through authentic narrators. There isn’t anything authentic which states he made two khutub on the Eid. It has been mentioned in Saheeh Muslim that he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed one khutbah.

3. Question: What is the verdict for using a microphone to say the Takbeer during the Eid after every Athan ?

Answer : to say the takbeer in this fashion is an innovation. It is a recommended act to say the takbeer during the Eid in the marketplace, the home, the street, in the car while driving, in the bed, etc. There isn’t any evidence to support the takbeer to be said in unison, or for a person to stand up and say it on the microphone. Both of these actions are incorrect. The takbeers aren’t a call to prayer, which the people must hear.

4. Question : A person comes to the prayer late and joins the second Rak’ah. He says five takbeer with the Imam. How many does he say during his second rak’ah?

Answer : First of all, it should be known that the takbeer in the prayer are sunnah. Therefore there is no harm or sin for the person who intentionally leaves them. So in this case he says the five takbeer with the imam and this is considered his first rak’ah. Then in his second rak’ah he can say another five takbeer if he wants or he can leave them off if he wants. Allah knows best.

5. Question: What is the ruling on singling out the Eid day to visit the graves?

Answer:  To specify that day for visiting the graves is an innovation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or his companions (may Alah be pleased with them ) didn’t single out the day of Eid to visit the graveyard.

6. Question :Are there any legislated sunnah prayers before the Eid prayer?

Answer: No, and praying sunnah before Eid is an innovation, unless in the masjid. And in this case a person greets the masjid with two rak’ah; as there might be something which prevents them from going to a musalla, or the community just doesn’t have an Eid musalla. This resembles some of the mountainous regions here, civil war between tribes, or heavy rain. which get in the way of people going to the musallah. Hence they pray two rak’ah then the Eid prayer in the masjid.

Praying two rak’ah sitting in the musalla is also an innovation. The prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) didn’t pray sunnah before or after the Eid prayer. The hadeeth from Abu Sa’eed (may Allah be pleased with him) which states the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak’ah after the Eid has a defect which prevents it from being authentic by way of Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqeel. This narrator is weak.

Review:

Allaah, the mighty and majestic created mankind upon al-Fitrah (the natural inclination):
…Allaah’s Fitrah (i.e. Allaah’s Islaamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. [Surat ur-Room, 30:30]
Part of al-Fitrah is loving the truth and detesting falsehood because the truth is sweet, it is delicious to the hearts and falsehood is bitter to the soul.

The six points:

1. Jahl (Ignorance)
2. Kawf (Fear)
3. Kibr (Pride/Arrogance)
4. Hasad (Jealousy)
5. Bad Companionship
6. Sins

Is it not the case that we have seen from our own brothers/sisters the likes of these points bringing about the ruin of those beloved to us.

- Jahl (ignorance): Have we not seen the effects of one being ignorant of the Aqeedah, heedless about his manhaj, slipping in to the hands of the people of hizbiyyah?

- Kawf (Fear): Have we not seen someone become fearful of his; family traditions/expectations, cultural or peer pressure, eventually subsiding to the preferences of those who pressure him away from Islaam?

- Kibr (Pride/Arrogance): Is it not the case that some have rated themselves, looked down on others and claimed leadership for themselves or despised those who Allaah has give authority, leadership or fame to?

- Hasad (Jealousy): Such a common vice, envying knowledge, envying popularity, envying leadership to the point of severing relationships that were based upon righteousness and good companionship all due to being displeased with the Qadr of Allaah

- Bad Companionship: A foundation of correct Aqeedah, good companionship and spending time wisely, how is it destroyed? By the one who feels secure, not in need of guidance and good companionship so they entertain the companionship of the wicked or those unconcerned with upright moral character, those who do not act by ad-deenun-naseehah so slowly the spending of time flips from goodness to uselessness to evil, from the appearance of a practising Muslim to a open sinner (beards trimming down/khimaars changing colour) how, not by the corruption of information but by the vice of poor companionship (oftentimes by those who feel they have reached a level of excellence in their fiqh of the deen, such that they can associate with anyone and receive no ill effects)

- Sins: Often overlooked, we should fear the retribution of Allaah, worry about our guidance and our end as the Companions often did, and be careful what you wish for! If you incline towards evil and away from the sanctity of the places of Sunnah and goodness, then perhaps you will receive what you intended

1 Saa’ = 3 Litres // 1 Mudd = 750ml

In the Perfect Name of Allaah…

A prophetic mudd (1/4 saa’) in modern volume measurements is .75L (or 750mL), which means that a saa’ is three litres.

This mudd was measured up to Sh. Yahyaa al-Mudarris’ mudd (may Allaah preserve him), which was measured up to the mudd of his shaykh al-’Allaamah Aboo Sa’eed Muhammad ‘Abdullaah al-Laknawee (d.1400), which was measured up to his shaykh’s mudd… and so on, all the way back to the mudd of Zayd ibn Thaabit (may Allaah be pleased with him) that was in use in al-Andelus and elsewhere all the way to (at least) the 4th century…

Al-’Allaamah al-Laknawee (may Allaah have Mercy on him) – a former teacher at the Haram in Makkah and at Daar al-Hadeeth, an Indian scholar grounded in Tawheed and firm against the people of desires – said about this mudd:

This is the mudd that the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) was speaking about when he prayed, “O Allaah!  Put blessings in our saa’ and our mudd!” This was collected by the two shaykhs (al-Bukhaaree and Muslim).  Further, he (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) used to make wudhoo’ using this mudd, and he used to take a bath using a saa’.

In one narration of the hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim, the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) said when praying for Allaah to bless the mudd and the saa’: “blessings upon blessings.”

So whoever wants to give their zakaat al-fitr using this measurement – as it was prescribed – is free to do so.  May Allaah bless the Muslims and accept their fasting and their zakaat.
